There are dozens of dethatchers on the market and it is difficult to know how well they’ll perform. The Senex 15” is designed in China and is assembled in Mexico. The packaging was solid and the unit assembled easily in just a few minutes without tools. The unit itself appeared well made and the adjustments were smooth. Operationally, the unit performed very well, was comfortable to use, sound was manageable, and no vibration or other difficulties with the device. We did not experience any difficulties with the dethatcher, including thermal shutdown and the bag easily mounted and gathered the debris. The only drawback is the size of the bag, while comparatively large is still too small for the amount of thatch the unit removes. While that’s a testament to the machine’s efficiency, having to stop and dump after two passes on the lawn was dissatisfying. Alternatively, one can use it without the bag, though that will lead to a lot of manual raking. The 15” width was appreciated and helps to speed up the process. Compared to other commonly available dethatchers, I appreciated the unit’s quality, performance, and price. Additionally, it comes with an uncharacteristically long, three year warranty.

My front lawn has not been dethatched for about 7 or 8 years (i know, my bad) so the thatch was was pretty thick. I went to my local garden rental center and discovered I could by my own dethatcher for $20 or $30 more than the rental fee. My yard is only about 500 sq ft, so I figured a DIY electric dethatcher would have enough power do handle my lawn. Assembly was relatively easy despite poorly written instructions. After assembly it ready to go. Dethatching takes no more effort the mowing your lawn. Well, maybe a little longer. After the first pass I was shocked at the amount of thatch removed by this machine. The appearance of my lawn after I had finished was better than I expected. No bare patches or torn up grass, despite removing enough thatch to fill our 96-gal green waste container to near overflowing. The machine has plenty of power (13 amps) to easily cut through the thatch. The tines pull the machine along by itself. First I did the the entire lawn on the most shallow setting and a second time on the next deeper setting. By doing it twice instead of once at a deep setting, the dethatcher runs smoother and left the lawn less torn up. Being electric the machine is relatively quiet, no noise-canceling earphones required. The only complaint I have is the same as most every dethatcher review I have read: inadequate bag size. I had to empty this bag every 30 ft or more than 30 times. summing this review up: much better then expected for less than $100.

There was some mixed evaluations on this item, but the value was clear. It is indeed almost worthless to try and use the bag as many have mentioned, but to be honest this is not a function of the device but of its excellent performance. I used it to power rake one yard and scarify one other yard - front and back. The device worked flawlessly, but for the bag to be of benefit would need to be some ridiculous size, like 55 gallons. On one yard I filled a 60 gallon can and three 55 gallon yard waste bags. It works well, just skip the auto bagging, rake it into piles and dispose of it. An excellent little device. My buddy was so impressed he borrowed it for his yard which is nearly an acre, and he was also pleased. The device did not break fail or have any error. It cleaned up and is stored without complaint.

I read the reviews before I purchased this dethatcher. I was a little hesitant to purchase because I wasn't familiar with this brand. However, I'm glad I did. It worked just as it should. It was easy to assemble and lightweight. I really appreciated the ease of use and how I could maneuver it across the grass. I ordered the 15 inch and it was perfect for what I needed. I was amazed at how much thatch this little machine removes. I ended up with 4 very large leaf bags of thatch. The size is good as not to take up so much space when storing it. Like the other reviews stated; the bagger does fill up quickly. I didn't mind having to stop and empty it. You will quickly figure out when to empty it. It beats having to rake it afterwards.

This is the best purchase I made this year. Easy to assemble, easy to operate and this thing works great. Follow the tip of not using bag first few times as there will be a lot of thatch. This little thing is powerful, easily tearing up everything at the base of my grass. It even seems to be leveling my lawn. I can adjust setting and go deeper in the soil but paceing myself. Great price for a great tool. Highly recommend.

Probably one of the worst decisions I’ve made in a while. Now I remember why I went full electric. I live on a wide open acre of land with my house centered. This machine didn’t stay on longer than 45 seconds before needing to move the wire or rebag. The rebagging is understandable because of the price, you want a bigger bagger then pay more. It’s the wires. The wires. The wires. I lost 2 100ft cables now! I’m very cautious and aware of the wires but one 45 degree turn and the entire cable gets sucked into the machine, destroyed down to the metal, then takes 20 minutes to even get it out because it’s stuck in the side walls wrapped. Not only that, everytime you want to turn around, then you have to put the wire on the other side unless you want your wire eaten again. Between bagging and having the move the wire every single turn, I should’ve just gone electric and taken a break in the middle, charge the batteries, and go back to the job, it would’ve been much muchhhh quicker that way. This is ridiculous.
