I like the quality of select by Calphalon for their cookware, so I went with this brand for the knife set. I like the convenience of the auto sharpening feature for the 3 large butcher style knives. No complaints so far. We'll see how well these hold up with regular use.

Only thing to not like is that they tease you with an open slot for a bread knife that you can’t find for purchase anywhere. The box says not dishwasher safe, but that must be for the finish on the handles. They’ve been washed several times in mine!

I am returning this. You expect nothing but perfection when you spend almost $200 on a knife set. As you can see in the picture, the emblem has an imperfection, and it is missing a breadknife for the price. I wrote Calphalon, and they said the breadknife is discontinued!? I used to like this brand, but even my expensive Calphalon cookware is all chipped and scratched (Teflon coating). I like that the steak knives are serrated, which is a requirement of mine. ... show more

I used to have Calphalon pans and enjoyed them so I was comfortable buying this set of knives with the self sharpening slots. I would have preferred a different color of block but hard to get a clear idea of what they will actually look like. It will work. These were bought as a gift and the person is very happy with the knives. However, I was informed later that one seemed to be missing. I havent tried for a replacement because it was already given as a gift and the recipient said it was ok. Upon getting this notice for review I may try to just get the missing knife.
