First off, I am a firm believer that a fireplace should, you know, have real fire in it. I was very hesitant about getting an electric fireplace because some of them are so cheesy looking. After shopping around, my husband and I weren't able to find a gas fireplace that we liked, and we weren't sold on gel, so we decided to try out the electric. I'm so glad that we did. The fireplace is absolutely lovely! It is very heavy duty and well made. It is veneered, but you wouldn't know it. We had to really look to actually determine that it wasn't solid wood. It is a bit of work to put together, but if you have a power drill it is much easier. The flames and logs are controlled independently so you can make them brighter or dimmer. On the lowest 3 settings the flames are very convincing, to the point that people have asked if it is a gas or electric fireplace. You can also run it with or without heat, which is very nice. It also comes with a handy little remote. We have a small living room (11 x 15) and use the fireplace to supplement our forced air heat. It makes the room very cozy and warm. The shelving on the sides is very handy, we were able to retrofit it to house our electronics. Everyone who has seen it loves it and so do we! The only thing that I didn't like was the obnoxious warning sticker on the front glass. It peels off easily but leaves a lot of sticky residue. It came off after some scrubbing and doesn't change my opinion about the quality of the product. ** Edit 7/23/2024 - We've had this for 11 years now and it still looks and works great! It arrived in excellent condition and I'm actually surprised by the quality for the price. The fireplace looks like real flames and all of the shelving seems very sturdy. Assembling the fireplace shelf was the most difficult part but the instructions were fairly easy to understand. The only issue I had was that it said to use part 12 and yet it really meant part 2. Fortunately, this was near the end and the picture clearly showed they meant part 2 and not 12. The only other issue I had was that near the end the step to put in the square fireplace bracket can be very difficult. This is due to the fact that there is limited space to work with... you need a short screwdriver and even then it can be difficult to get the screws to set properly into the wood due to the limited space. As such, I highly suggest marking the holes on the square piece at the end (you'll know what I mean when you get to this step). You can then pre-tap the holes using a automatic screwdriver so that when you go to do this step it'll be MUCH easier to get the screws tightened. Overall, it took me about ~3 hours to complete the fireplace shelf. It would have been less if I hadn't thought I did something wrong, undo what I did, and then discover I was actually right in the first place! The two side shelves were incredibly easy to assemble. The most difficult part is putting the top piece on because it uses screws but even then there's plenty of space and you can use a automatic screwdriver to get the screws started. Just make sure not to overtight it... I usually use an automatic screwdriver to start it and then manually screw it in the rest of the way. The only negative about this shelf is they could have pre-tapped the spots for the screws. It can be very difficult to get the screws to set properly, especially in the times in which space is limited. One thing worth mentioning is the 'espresso' color is darker than we originally thought it would be. It's basically about as dark of a brown as you can get before it just turns straight black. I even mistook it for being black when I originally opened the packaged until I put some light on it. With that said, the end result actually looks very classy and we're pleased with how the color turned out! ... show more

I absolutely love this fireplace. I live in a small apartment and I wanted a fireplace for so long. I’m so glad I bought this one. It is beautiful and it completely changed the feel and ambience of my living room. I now love sitting in my living room with the lights off and the fire going. I purchased an MP3 player for cheap on Amazon and hooked it up to a Bluetooth speaker I already owned and never used and put the speaker behind the fireplace. I used a free sound effects website to create an 8 hour long “fireplace crackling” track so now it sounds like a real fire as well. A few downsides: the wood is VERY easily scratched. I scratched the heck out of the top of it just putting it together. Very soft wood, I am not happy about the huge gash on the top of my brand new fireplace mantle. Also, a lot of the little screw pieces that hook onto the dowels or whatever you call them, have fallen out. I’ve had to keep screwing them back in, which is annoying. Im not an amateur either, I know how to put together furniture. Some of the furniture parts just felt cheap. Also, the top of the mantle was missing two very important holes which I noticed when assembling. They weren’t just regular drill holes either, I could have done that no problem. For these particular holes, I would have needed a special tool like a router to drill the proper holes that were missing, so the top part of the mantle is a little loose. If it becomes a problem, my plan is just to get some regular wood screws to add to the top in a place where they can’t be seen. I have a small child so I have the fireplace attached to my wall right now via an L bracket, so fortunately I’m not having to move it around much. Other than those issues, I’m just in love with this. I wish I had done it sooner. I can’t wait to add the stocking and decorate for Christmas. I got beautiful stocking holders for the mantle and im hunting around for the perfect garland. My tree will look beautiful next to it. Even in the summertime, though, it’s great to have on. I have not used the heater function on this fireplace yet as it has not been cold enough to need it. I have it plugged in directly to the outlet behind it and so far I have not noticed any electrical issues. I am a little worried from some of the reviews that mentioned this almost causing a fire. So, worrying about that kind of sucks. I wish I felt more confident in that aspect. I’ll just keep an eye out for anything weird I suppose. Delivery went off without a hitch. Some very nice Amazon men brought the 3 packages right up to my apartment via an elevator to the fourth floor where I live. It came in three large packages. They arrived exactly within the time frame I was given. That part went perfectly. I also like that the remote is not necessary for operation. I was concerned that might be the case since other reviews seemed very worried about getting replacement remotes because theirs had broken or been lost. The only thing you can’t do on the fireplace that you can do with the remote is to turn on the light above the fireplace (as far as I know anyway). All in all, I still give it 5 stars. The things that were cons definitely weren’t deal breakers for me, but that all depends on what is important to you. As I said, this changed the whole feel of my living room. It is so cozy and inviting now. The shelves on either side are beautiful and they really make the whole thing look so classy and elegant (even though I am currently keeping toys in mine).     • Causes temporary insanity, but then you love it

Love the look, love the size and scale, and the fireplace heats well. But... I’ve put together countless pieces of furniture like this, from simple to complex. I did the two side shelves first, and they went together easily and without any problems. The fireplace was a different matter. The sides and front pieces kept coming apart, so that it looked like a comedy sketch as I worked. I got hubby to help me with this part, but even with both of us trying to hold the pieces together, it would still fall apart as we worked. It got to the point where hubby was ready to throw it in the trash but I didn’t want to give up and kept extending the length of my patience (more than I knew that I had, actually...). Anyway, the instructions have only pictures, NO words. That wasn’t the problem but it didn’t help. the problem was the locking pieces that the screws fit into. They kept pulling out of the particle board, and the pegs were loose they really didn’t help hold it together for assembly. So, after the utter frustration we decided to put the bottom on and try to build it from there. After we got top & bottom on enough to stabilize it, then we could put in the front piece and go from there. I don’t cuss. But I seriously considered it and probably thought of a few choice words during the whole thing. Once assembled, we both love it. It’s kind of like giving birth to a baby: a real pain but then you forget about that part because you’re so happy to have the little dear. As a Prime member, I buy a LOT of stuff from amazon. Living out in a rural area far from a city, amazon is my go-to source for many of my purchases. I must rely heavily on your product reviews to help me decide which item is best for me -- especially when I can't actually see, touch or hold the product. I love this fireplace! I had been browsing around online and had been eyeing this for a few weeks. I couldn’t bring myself to spend $500 on something I had not physically seen, but I finally jumped on it. I couldn’t be more pleased. It’s a nice size and very sturdy. It’s not bright white, more of a cream color, which is exactly what I wanted. Putting it together was pretty cumbersome but straightforward. I would definitely recommend this fireplace if you’re looking for a nice one that you don’t have to spend over 1k on. UPDATE: I have now had this fireplace for 5 year, and it is still easily one of my favorite purchases. I don’t use the heat function very often because I live in the south so we only have a few months of cold during the year. However, the heat function works nicely. It must use quite a bit of energy though because sometimes it trips the surge protector if I have the heat running with the TV at the same time. I wake up every morning and turn the flame function on while I watch the news and have my coffee - it is just so cozy! I would not recommend putting anything too hot directly on the shelves. I made the mistake of burning a candle in a glass jar on it that got a little too hot so it left a faint brownish ring on it. ... show more

Just what I had hoped for. I ordered the Espresso colored fireplace for a rich brown contrast to the light colored walls. I wasn't disappointed and love it. Friends and family who've seen it say it's beautiful as well. ETA for shipping was supposed to be about a week, but it arrived within a few days. I'm sure glad it arrived in perfect condition as I would have hated to pack it back up to send back. Packing was intricate and would have been a pain to put back in the box. I assembled this by myself in about an hour and a half, taking my time. I used a variable speed drill as there is a lot to screw and using a standard screw driver would have taken longer. Use a slow speed as you don't want to run the drill fast and risk stripping anything. You can find an assembly video on YouTube to help you out but it's really not difficult. I had mounted a 60" TV on the wall and wanted a fireplace as a focal point. I bought this particular fireplace as it had the 2 shelves on each side so the size of the TV didn't appear over powering to the size of the fireplace. I know others folks just set their TV on top but my intention wasn't to use this as a TV stand. Nor did I buy it as a heat source to replace my furnace. The heater will take out a chill in the room within close proximity. Don't expect it heat a large room or the whole house. The flames are a nice simulation of real flames and relaxing. There flame intensity is easily adjustable as well as the intensity of the glow of the logs. I didn't expect a light in the fireplace, but there's one there that you can turn on or off that adds dimension to the fireplace. So it's not just an on/off unit. With the adjustable flames, logs and light means you can have variations and set the look to your mood or preference. Would I buy it again? Absolutely! I have friends and family who are going to buy it after seeing mine but I won't get a commission on the sales. Darn! For reviewers who gave this a poor review thank you for your input and I'm sorry for your disappointment. Everyone has different tastes.     • Gorgeous Piece - Nightmare to Assemble

I normally do not write a review unless I really love an item, hate it or encounter a problem. In this case, the mantel and bookcases are gorgeous, but the mantel is a total pain to put together unless you have at least 2 people and but the top and bottom on first. The bookcases for the most part went together relatively easy, except for the top piece which required us drilling two of the holes to make them bigger so that the screws could go into the side of the bookcase further. Otherwise, these screws would not have gone in far enough to securely hold together. With the mantel, this problem occurred several times, as well as there being a lot of difficulty in putting the sides together since the dowels do not hold together snugly and when trying to piece it together, the piece fell over, ripping out the screws and breaking the piece with the dowels in it. One of the reasons I am writing this review is to warn people that it is difficult to assemble and also to warn them about a problem we discovered with the fireplace. If the fireplace box makes rattling noises, open it first before assembling anything. We found out, after spending several hours assembling the bookcases and mantel, that the fireplace was broken and that in order to send it back to Amazon, you have to return all the items. Considering the time spent putting it together and the difficulty, I am not wasting my time to disassemble to send it back. We are currently in contact with the manufacturer to try and just have the fireplace shipped back and replaced or just to have it replaced. Item came in three separate boxes, one for the mantle, one for the fireplace/heater, and one for the book shelves. Instructions were easy to follow, took me about four hours to put everything together by myself, except for the parts that required a second person for lifting. Base of mantle had a small imperfection in the finish, but this was covered up once assembly was complete, so no big deal. Pros: looks great!! Comes with a remote, easy assembly (one screwdriver and your done), works great in any space, and made of pretty sturdy materials. Cons: slight manufacturing damage (covered once assembled) three separate pieces once assembled (1 mantle, 2 bookshelves). The only major con I had with this item is that it is three separate pieces once assembled. (This may not be a con for you.) Which causes gaps between the sides of the mantle and the bookshelves. Overall, I gave this item 5 stars because it looks great for our space, and really hit all the check marks we had for what we wanted in an electric fireplace/mantle. ... show more
