  • Awesome
Size: C3000
These Sedonas are the best spinning reel for the money I think. They're reliable cast smooth and retrieve smooth too.

  • Very smooth Reel
Size: One Size
Between my son (age 9) and I we have a few reels, but we just started fishing last year. We have a few south bend, which...yeah there's a reason i got myself a Shimano. We have two Pfluger's, a Kast king, a Mitchell 300, and an Okuma epixor 20. (pfluger 35 lady president, and golden wing combo with 30 sized president I think.) We fish for bluegill, bass, and sometimes trips to the trout farm, or the occasional pike from the local lake that surprise us. I got the shimano 1000 FI for myself to use on panfish (and probably the trout farm). as I said, I'm new at fishing, but this reel is very smooth. It is solidly build, and very well finished. No it doesn't have an anti reverse switch, and I don't care I don't like them anyway because the kids just tangle the lines around them... I haven't fished the reel yet, but I am very happy with it. lifelong fisherman or not, it's fairly easy to see if something is built with qaulity, and the shimano reel is. Last year I got a Kast King centron 500, and it doesn't even compare to my new shimano 1000. Considering the price is under 100$ i feel that it is a great value for the money. I plan on combining the shimano 1000 on a light weigh Fenwick rod for me to use as a light weight setup, i belive it will fill the role very well. ... show more

  • NOT WHAT I EXPECTED
Size: C2000HGS
LOVED THE SHALLOW SPOOL. DON'T WASTE LINE, BUT IT CREATES TOO MANY WIND LOOPS. TESTED IT THOROUGHLY. WILL RETURN.

  • One of my favorite reels and my go to.
Size: 2500
I do tournaments and I paired this reel up with my "favorite, Shay bird" rod. 7', MH. I had so many issues with the favorite reels that came with the favorite rods that I needed something new. Read up on the Sedona and I'm using a 2500 size with 10lb flouro on it right now, switching to braid soon. I have caught so many bass using my shimano the drag is nice, and casting... smooth as butter when you set the bail.. I also have a 2500 daiwa that I purchased same time as this one and the shimano wins everytime when I'm on the lake. Will be purchasing this reel again for one more of my rods and I think my new season can begin. ... show more

  • sedona 1000 vs sienna 1000
Size: One Size
Sedona 1000 is my new favorite trout reel. But... The new sedona's (i bought 2) are on my 6' 6" medium light rods that i use for slip bobbers and 1/8-1/4 oz lures. I prefer my sienna 1000's on my 5' 6" ultra light and 6' light rods because the sienna has a smaller body shape but similar weight. and siennas are only $30, which i see as a feature. Sedonas feel solid and Siennas rattle a little, there is no question the sedona is on a very different quality level, but they both work just fine. the body size is just something you might not have thought about, so i wrote it here. ... show more

  • Reel seat doesn't fit my hand the way that older models did.
Size: 2500
This was my first reel purchase in quite a few years. I trust and recommend Shimano as a brand. I'm very pleased with the quality of the reel overall. My only complaint comes from the reel seat. There is a short distance between the reel seat and the first bend to where the reel seat meets the reel itself. This distance is just short enough that it pinches my finger in between the reel and the rod a little bit, enough to be annoying. I reached for another rod that has an older Shimano reel on it for comparison. That one felt fine. The difference has to be only a fraction of an inch, but Shimano definitely changed it. I don't have large hands, so I can't be the only person with this complaint. Otherwise, the reel is great. I'll keep using my other rod and I guess this will be the one that I loan to my wife and daughter. They don't seem to mind it since they have smaller hands than I do. ... show more

  • Small line capacity for reel size.
Size: One Size
the reel functions smoothly and cast good. however, the spool has small line capacity for the size. with only 100 yds of 4 lb test. this makes no sense as there is plenty of real estate (no pun intended) to increase capacity. a big fish takes a good run or if you are trolling and you may stand a good chance of loosing the fish and all your line. Also, the line capacities are mislabeled (how can you have LESS 2 lb. vs. 4 lb.?) Finally, there is no reverse switch. While it can be confusing for the rookies, it is still very useful to have. Overall, not worth returning as it works OK, but would not purchase again. ... show more
