Description

Safe™ is the complete and concentrated dry conditioner for both fresh and salt water. Safe™ removes chlorine, chloramine and ammonia. Safe™ converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank’s biofilter. Safe™ may be used during tank cycling to alleviate ammonia/nitrite toxicity. Safe™ detoxifies nitrite and nitrate, allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. Safe™ is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Safe™ will not overactivate skimmers. Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water.

I was originally using Seachem Prime to treat my aquarium water and then reading some forums I discovered Safe and decided to do some research on this. It's essentially the same product as Prime just in dry powdered form and more concentrated so you save money in the long run. This product should last me years even with weekly water changes. I have a 30 gallon tank so whenever I do a water change I usually siphon out about 15% of my water. I then put the dose of Safe into my tank as my bucket isn't very large. If you are changing water in a larger tank, you can also treat each individual bucket as you want but I find it easier to just dose the entire tank and then start adding in the new water after making sure it is the same temperature as the water in my tank. This is especially true if you are using a siphon that hooks up to your sink or hose for quick water changes. I follow the instructions from Seachem's website: Directions for all other sizes (this is different if you buy the 50g or 100g sizes!) Use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 1,250 L (300 gallons) as needed to reduce chlorine and chloramine or use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 300 L (75 gallons) for ammonia. Since my tank is only 30 gallons I use (1/10) of that dose to treat the entire tank. That ends up being 1/40 of a teaspoon so I had to buy some smaller measuring spoons. I use 1/32 of a teaspoon and have seen no ill effects with using this slightly higher dose as you would be using more for ammonia anyways. I've been using Prime for years and now been using Safe for over a month and have had no issues with my fish and chlorine and they seem very happy and healthy. I didn't realize there was a granule version for treating aquariums. With the potency and size (just a sprinkle for me), I'll be using this for far longer than liquid seachem prime. I will say that the scent is quite potent, but the cost savings trump all.

The product is ok to use with your fish but the dosing is difficult as the powder is very concentrated for small tanks like miner. I’d recommend the easier to use prime which is a liquid. The smell from safe doesn’t feel or smell safe it has a very strong odor! My whole e fish room stinks from it, I even had to use an air purifier to keep the room From stop smelling I will not use safe again! ... show more
