I’m glad I discovered this product! My one 5.5g betta tank has a corner where I added some Fluval stratum for some stemmed plants. Even though it’s just in one corner, every time I move anything around, or even if I vacuum the tank, it stirs up the stratum and I end up with a muddy tank. The Seachem Purigen is easy to use. I just get out one of my spare whisper filters, add the mesh pouch of Purigen into the filter compartment with a piece of white filter floss, and put it in the tank and let it run. It clean up my tank so the water was clear again, in a few hours. I keep the filter with Purigen running overnight, then remove it from the tank and lay the bag of Purigen in the dish drainer to dry well. The nice thing is that you can re charge Purigen with bleach. (You can look up the specific instructions online.) I feel my fish is much healthier , not having to breathe in muddy water!

This cleared up my yellow fish tank water in a few hours. Definitely works. Im glad I stumbled upon this doing a search on how to clean yellow tank water. I only wish I would have e remembered to rinse it first. Now the water is clear, but has a haze to it from the tiny loose particles. I stuffed the bag into a large pill bottle I drilled holes in. I drilled a larger hole in the cap and hooked it up to a small pump. So, as of right now im just sucking water through it and it cleared it up. Eventually I will shove it in the filter.

Highly recommend! This is a 72 hour process in my 55 gallon tank . Just make sure you’re not just adding this to clear up the color or to avoid cleaning. I’ve done water changes and a few days later it would get yellow. So that’s why I invested in the Purigen. While many said the color isn’t harmful, I still prefer a clear looking tank. So, each day it was getting clearer. It probably works quicker in a smaller tank but worth the wait.

Amazing product. Like many customers have said all over the internet, that this product has been working for them and those reviews go back over 10 yrs. I must say this product continues to excel. I used this for my baby red ear cumberland slider. In less than 24 hrs the water went from a tinged color and cloudy to clear and it’s still cleaning my tank. (I didn’t take a before picture sorry) It’s removed all the tannins and my baby seems happier. I already have both an ammonia removing and carbon filters installed, so I put the Purigen bag between both. Instructions say to put the bag at the end of the filtration system where the waterfall section is but since i have the ammonia remover there I securely put the baggy in between both (see picture). I’m still finishing up our baby’s tank. But will add a final picture once I’m done decorating. Update: finished decorating our baby’s tank. Bag keeps working. I’d recommend buy minimum of 2 bags so you can switch them out when recharging the dirty one. It’s also recommended to not use continuously but on and off to let good bacteria grow. I read it on a well known forum Reddit.

I had heard of this before but never really put too much thought about it afterwards. I mentioned to a friend in the hobby who owns her own aquarium store a few issues I was having with high nitrates and water clarity. She asked me if I used Purigen. I told her no and she said I should try it. She’s the one of the most knowledgeable people I know when it comes to keeping fish and knows her stuff. So I bought one and put it in a HOB filter on one of my tanks. And wow I definitely noticed a difference! My water is so clearer! I haven’t had any issues with the health of my fish, algae or anything unexpected. All of the fish still look good and I haven’t had any issues. Since then, I’ve bought more for the rest of my tanks. I haven’t tried to re-charge any of them yet bc I’m wary of the word ‘bleach’ when as it relates to anything with aquariums. I’ve seen many people on YouTube do it without any problems as well as talked to people who’ve done it and don’t report any issues as well. The only negative thing they say about re-charging is the amount of Prime they have to use. Otherwise this stuff is awesome and I wish I’d tried it sooner. Highly recommend

I found the most difficult information to retrieve was if this product works as well when you have a planted tank. I tested myself and I can say that after two weeks my plants still growing without any sign of nutrient deficiency. I really waned to give this product 5 stars. However, I've been told that it does not much more compared to a carbon filter (which I never used so I personally cannot compared). I really like it tho, and I really suggest it to buy if you don't like to mess with carbon filter and replace it every 2-3 weeks. As the product say it absorbs all the organic compound in the water. I have some piece of drift wood in my tank, and the water was starting to get pretty cloudy. I insert the media in the filter and after 12 hours I could see the magical difference. The water got incredibly clear. After a week the nitrogen level went down to zero (I had NO3 at about 15ppm). The down side is that my starting water was pretty cloudy (my fault), and the product absorbed a lot of it. After two weeks the bag looks pretty brown. I think I will have to do the cleaning process pretty soon. I will wait until the bag turn completely brown, or the water start to look cloudy again.The company claim that which 100ml you can use it for up to 100 gallons for about 4 to 6 months. I think is a little bit over estimating the range. I read several review that do not trust the cleaning process using bleach, and then soak it with de-chlorinator, I will update my review once I do a cleaning cycle. Other than that I recommended this product to two of my friend that have nitrogen or cloudy water. And If it was the case I would definitely buy it again. Update 4-8-13: I have the filter in place for almost 2 month, and it still keep the water clear. My tank is currently overstock, and I have no issues at all with water quality. I did not have to replace any filter cartridge. And I have not done the regeneration process. Great product. Update 4-24-13: I was starting to get the water little bit cloudy, so I decided to do the famous regeneration process. As soon as I dip it into the bleach/water solution it turned incredibly white. I let it soak for 24 hours, then took it out and soak in the Prime/water solution for 8 hours. After I took it out it didn't smell like chlorine at all. I wasn't sure so I dip it into some water for a bit, and test the water. Zero chlorine at the end. I place it back in the filter. There are few companies out there that make really good products for aquarium. Seachem is one of the best and one that you can always trust. You get your money worth on any of their products.

You can't really tell from the photos but the old tank was very Brown and had a lot of tannins. with this product it cleared up a lot in the first week and I feel like it will be even clearer in the following weeks. what's really nice is that you can recharge the media so you could use it again. The product is really easy to use. It comes in comes in a small bag, so you could just put it in your powered water filter after the debris filter and it will just start working. I'll try to update with a fresh photo in a couple of weeks.

I bought this because no matter how many water changes I did or how many times I vacuumed my gravel, my nitrate level at 40 ppm and steadily rising; it was nearing blood-orange red when I last tested it. I know this isn't good for cherry shrimp. I put this in my filter, and in less than 24 hours, it is down to under 10ppm, which is more acceptable for my aquarium with a gourami and tetras as well. I was shocked to say the least. I did not expect it to work so quickly and so effectively. I do have a higher bioload than is probably best for my tank, as my shrimp keep having babies, but this seems to have fixed my concern.
