    • This Safe FEELS CHEAP and That's Never a Good Thing

Many years ago, I got a nice shelf safe with a programmable keypad and a solid double-key entry. I like that safe. I STILL have that safe. When it came time to get a second safe (Hey, nice to have more stuff to put in a safe, amirite?), I went looking for a safe just like that one and... I didn't find one. Instead, I found that pretty much all the shelf safes sold on Amazon at this general price point are this design. After some deliberation, I settled on the Sdstone Safe Box (even though I could have had any of the "weird name, same design" safes out there). Right off the bat, I gotta tell ya that this safe FEELS cheap. Whereas my old safe feels pretty solid and the hardware seems well-constructed, THIS safe... Well, it feels slapped together and overall not very durable. The front keypad/lock-unlock assembly is plastic and the overall metal used to construct the safe seems thin. In addition, I've had to reprogram the safe a few times because it'll just... spontaneously reset itself. Not a real good look, safe. Anyway, I don't have any confidence that this safe would keep a determined person from cracking it using even basic tools. If you're hunting for positives, it's... roomy inside? I dunno, Clearly quality at this price point for safes is not what it used to be so if you're buying a safe to ACTIVELY keep someone from getting to your stuff, you should probably spend more on a better safe. Product arrived dented and chipped. As I don't care about the aesthetics for this particular item, this usually wouldn't have caused concern. However, the door to the safe was a bit difficult to open / close due to the fact that the frame of the safe appears a bit bent. This may be due to damage during shipping-- I hope it wasn't due to negligent inspection / quality control during manufacturing. However, even if it was due to shipping, it's a little concerning that a safe / lock box could get so damaged in transit. It makes me wonder if it's very secure. At the end of the day, I'm just trying to provide a safe place for my daughter's more valuable belongings in her dorm. As the locking mechanism seems to work, I think it will suit the purpose. Opening / closing the door may be a little less fluid than it should be, but it's not as if she'll be accessing this multiple times per day. It's meant to be a place where she can keep materials she'll occasionally need to access. That said, improvements can be made to this device. If someone is looking for more air-tight security, this may not be the item you want to go with. ... show more

The safe is not fire-proof. I am using it to keep some jewelry and cash secure in my home where I have many people coming and going. I am tired of hiding my jewelry and cash around my house and then forgetting where I hide them...I'm still looking for a pair of earrings I hide 6-months ago:-....I nearly returned this safe because I could not figure out how to program the code. The directions say to press the re-set button, located inside the door frame, yellow light goes on, with door open enter 3-8 digit code, then press "A" (C/#) or "B" (E/*) button...WTF does that mean??? I followed their directions over and over again but the code would not set. As a last resort I pressed the re-set button, I entered my code then I pressed the # button...That was it!!! I closed the safe door, entered my code number, followed-by # button, the green light came on and the safe opened. Using their directions: option "A" press C/# or option "B" press E/* did not set the code. ... show more

Bought this for my 91 year old mom who is in a nursing home. She didn't feel safe with her wallet and jewelry laying around, with all the people constantly coming and going from her room. This safe is perfect! We mounted it in the bottom of her end table (doors swing open to the left and right. Easy to use (even at her age) - just punch in a pin #. Has small blue light on inside to help see. Great for the elderly in assisted living / nursing homes, students away at college, or extra protection at home! ... show more
