Description

Use the Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader to apply lawn fertilizer, grass seed, granular weed control, salt, and ice melt. This reliable spreader option for lawns comes pre-calibrated and ready-to-use, and holds up to 5,000 sq. ft. of Scotts product. When the EdgeGuard is engaged, it will block off the right-side of the spreader pattern to prevent product from spreading onto non-lawn areas. Using the Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader is simple. To begin, turn rate control dial to the correct setting listed on the back of each Scotts product, pour the product in the hopper, then start spreading. The seed spreaders for lawns feature design enhancements like a curved hopper and dual-bladed agitator for smooth product funneling and consistent coverage. Not to mention, it is compact and features a fold-down handle for easy storage. These fertilizer spreaders provide uniform coverage of granular products; without one, you may end up with uneven coverage of fertilizer or control products that can result in uneven feeding, weed, disease, or insect control. As a trusted Scotts spreader for lawns, DIY homeowners can also use it as an ice melt spreader to distribute salt on walkways and driveways.

  • Simple and Gets the Job Done
Style: Mini
This spreader works well for basic lawn care. It’s lightweight, easy to push, and the EdgeGuard feature helps keep fertilizer or seed from spreading into areas you don’t want it, like sidewalks or driveways. It was quick to put together and holds enough product to cover a decent sized area without constantly refilling. The settings are easy to adjust depending on what you’re spreading. Overall it’s a solid, simple spreader that does exactly what it’s supposed to do and makes yard work a lot easier. ... show more

After purchasing a box store brand of spreads, only to get it home and have the lever cable snap before the first use, I realized, I should just stick with the tried and true brands. Scott’s is known for its quality lawn care products, so I knew this was a wise choice, for just a couple dollars more. It worked as expected. Was very easy to pop the wheels onto upon opening the box, and initial set up. And traversed across my lawn with ease. No wobble, no over or under distribution of fertilizer, and stores easily on a hook on my garage wall. ... show more

  • Somewhat Disappointing Spreader
Style: Mini
I've had a Scotts drop spreader for many years, and although it is still working, bought this broadcast spreader for one primary reason. When applying Scotts weed and feed fertilizer you are instructed to cut the grass and water it before applying the fertilizer. The discharge holes on the hopper of the drop spreader are so close to the ground that due to the dampness of the lawn, the fertilizer gets partially clogged and the discharge rate gets compromised. So, I thought this spreader would solve that problem. After assembling this broadcast spreader (which was quite simple) and doing the same preliminary steps with the lawn, I started broadcasting the fertilizer. All was well for about 1/4 of my lawn until I needed to refill the hopper. That's when 2 things happened; during the refill I accidentally tipped the spreader over, spilling some of the fertilizer. (There are 2 issues here - the center of gravity of the spreader is high, and the rear support is considerably undersized). Then, after getting it operational again, even though I hadn't changed the setting of the spreader, the output suddenly and dramatically increased, maybe tripling. So, I immediately stopped, emptied the hopper, checked the setting apparatus, and finding no problems, refilled it and continued broadcasting although at a lower setting. (I ended up using a 2 setting for about 2/3 of my lawn although the bag said to use 3-1/2. If I hadn't made that change, it could have possibly caused lawn damage because of over fertilizing). After finishing, I noticed that there was considerable fertilizer that had accumulated on the insides of both wheels and on the underside of the rotary plate. Apparently, the wheels had thrown wet fertilizer onto the plate which may have impacted the rate of discharge. I've attached 2 photos - one showing about 2/3 cup of fertilizer I collected from the wheels, which I dried and put back in the bag for future use. The other photo shows a 16" extension I made for the rear stand to try and keep it from tipping over in the future. This extension was made from a scrap piece of 1/2" PVC pipe and 2 pipe end caps, which are secured to the metal bar stand via 2 hose clamps. I sprayed it black to make it look better. So, I'm giving this spreader a 3 rating because of what I consider to be 2 design flaws - hollow wheels on the inside which collect considerable fertilizer and throw it on the rotary plate, and a poorly designed stand for the rear support. I noticed that this spreader has fairly good reviews, so maybe I'm just the unlucky one with my experience. Hopefully the next time I use it will be a better experience. I contacted a Scotts customer service representative about these issues, and although he was polite, was of no help to me. ... show more
