This electric tiller works better than I expected. It will dig and turn dirt over, blend in mulch, and prepare soil for gardens or lawn planting. it is easier to use than a gasoline tiller, starts every time! It has enough power for even clay, poor soil. I do not know how it will hold up for large projects. You do need a cord. I absolutely LOVE this little tiller! It's super easy to use and I love that I don't have to mess with mixing fuel. It has plenty of power, though I do wish I could adjust the length of the handle. I'm 5'2" and it's probably a bit too high for my grip. But that sure didn't stop me from getting these beds worked up. I have redone all my flowerbeds and even in the clay it worked great. Used it to break 2 small patches of new ground and prepare for peppers and tomatoes. Easy to maneuver and has enough power to dig into hard ground. Unit is light, so some muscle power is needed to get it to really dig in, but once past the surface crust it had no problem breaking up the medium clay soil. Once the initial breaking was done, it was much easier to use to amend the soil with compost and fertilizers. Realistically tills down about 6". After using it for about 6 hours I would still buy it! Works great now with no issues - we'll see how it holds up over a couple of seasons. ... show more

Works good for me. I have clay mix soil and it took longer then I thought it would have to make new garden beds but it powered through the initial dig and now after initial dig it quickly tills through the garden beds. I wish the directions were more clear. I had to find a YouTube video (even then it was of a guy putting it together wrong initially so be careful and screen the videos) however it works even better than I expected. In addition to the directions it was not clear you shouldn’t till with the wheels *down* don’t do that! Once I finally figured that out things went very smoothly. I still gave it 5 stars because it does the job I needed it to do. I did a 10x10 plot on grass initially. After 3 hours it’s soft and fluffy now. ... show more

I replaced a gas powered model due to oil, gas, and noise. I did not expect as much power or consistency out of the electric model. And as usual I am absolutely wrong about this electric tiller. Scotts hit the proverbial nail on the head with this design and powerful electric engine. The first time I used the tiller I was almost knocked on my a$$. It was that strong. I did not heed the abundant warnings on holding, preparation, and safety, thinking no electric Tiller is that good, and strong. After I got up and collected my thoughts I had a new and very well deserved respect for Scotts and this Electric tiller. While the noise level is high but not annoyingly so, the tiller is stronger than the craftsman I am replacing. It digs deep and consistent and better than the gas model with none of the mess. I guess if I want to get really picky, the electric cord can be a bit bothersome, but no more than hauling gas and oil around all day. I know there are battery powered units but I wanted to have as much time as possible without have to change batteries or worse, wait till one charges. But even that is getting to be more convenient now. I have no complaints about this machine, that does as much and more than my gas powered one with none of the mess. I’m told by the person who it was for that the fold down wheels are nice and work well. It’s powerful and does what needs to be done. Was not difficult for an experienced mechanical person to assemble.
