I have never seen a bike with so poor quality. After 20 days riding, the thread in the left crank arm completely worn out. The pedal fell apart with the crank. I contacted Amazon. They offered me two options: return for full refund or a 20% refund, no return needed. Since I need a bike to commute, I chose the second one and got $44 refund. Then I bought a new 170mm crank and a 13mm bolt socket on Amazon according to the size signs on the original crank and bolt (bolt has a 12.9mm sign on it). However the sizes were wrong. After tried many times, I gave up on putting the 13mm socket on the bolt and went to Home Depot to buy a 14mm one last night. It matched. I put the new crank on and ride it to office this morning. But the crank was longer than the original one and I had to use one leg to ride about 6 miles! I bought the 170mm crank per the sign on the original crank. I think the sizes are all wrong. Now I do not know which size to buy. ... show more

I bought this for my son. Knowing he won't ride nearly as much as I do, I didn't want to spend a lot on a bike unless he really starts putting some serious miles in. So, this fit the budget quite well. First, it's HEAVY, so don't expect to win any races... Other than that, it seems really solid. It took about an hour to get everything fine tuned and adjusted the way it should be. He has put about 70 miles on it so far and I have noticed one major issue. Even with proper inflation, both the front and rear tube have already needed replaced. Additionally, the rear tire completely failed after less than 30 miles of riding and needed to be replaced. While these aren't expensive repairs and do fall into routine bike maintenance, I cant say that I would expect to have to make them on a brand new bike. Also, on a side note, maybe I just missed it in the description before I ordered, but the rims are drilled for Schrader valves and not Presta like I would have expected in a road rim. ... show more

I needed a bike to commute to work because my previous one was stolen. I haven't ridden in quite some time so I looked for a starter bike to get back into it. This is a great bike for a commuter or new cyclist. Some things about it: Pros: - Assembly isn't bad at all. Crank, chain, and brakes are already on the frame. Need to tighten some screws up as well as connect some pieces and your good. Handlebar is already set up with tape and brakes so there is no concern for setting that up. - 14 speeds have a good high and low for the everyday rider - Tires are 700x28 (not 23) so they are a little more forgiving. - Price point is great - Shifter/brake from Shimano very easy to use and friendly for new rider. - Quick release tires Cons: - Brakes needed fine tuning to work appropriately. - Seat is okay but red marks have rubbed off on my pants. The only other issue for myself is that 53cm is a bit much. I can't stand above the bar with the bike straight up. I'm 5'7" and have short legs so there are two reasons for ya. For you heavier riders out there: I'm 275 pounds and I'm able to ride this thing with no issues. This can help you get up and riding until you are ready for your next one! I would recommend this bike to everyone and will update this comment if anything arises. Definitely 5 stars for the price. ... show more

I am an avid cycler and ride about 80 to 100 miles a week normally sticking to gravel trails and some paved bike paths. I own a Trek mountain bike and a Fuji hybrid (I ride the Trek about 70% of the time). I was looking for a cheap road bike just to use when I am out on the paved bike trails so I do not wear down the tires on the other two bikes. I have never bought any bike on Amazon or any direct ship but I figured I would try it and worst case send it back. I received the bike in 2 days (prime). The assembly was very easy (but this may be because I have maintained my bikes for so long) just attach the handle bars, seat and front wheel (it comes with quick release so its a snap). The frame is very well built, light weight and the seat is comfortable. Heres the bad. The gears are a mess out of the box to the point its not really rideable and even with my knowledge of bikes I could not even make the adjustments. The tires are cheap but will pass for a season at least and the breaks are loose. So liking the price and frame, I decided that I would invest in taking it to my local bike shop for them to tweak it. A week later I picked it up and love it! It rides very smooth, the gears shift great now and it handles the hills fairly easily. So, if you buy this bike plan on having to invest a little more money to have it adjusted by a pro; if not, don't bother buying it as is not adjusted at all out of the box. That's the only warning I have and I will defend schwinn as its like that with most every bike you buy out of the box. ... show more
