Coli, and removes 99. 9999% of all protozoa such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium (independent testing laboratory Hydration, LLC.; microbiological report S05-03). The Squeeze Filter also filters out 100% of microplastics. Style: Two 32-Oz Standard Pouches
Bought this for a family backpacking trip and love it. I didn't keep track, but likely filtered 30-40 liters for our 3 day trip, and it showed no signs of slowing down. I only have one 3 day trip with this filter, but so far it's easily the best filter I've had. I've used hand pump filters, chemical treatment, boiling water, other gravity filters, and this is by far the best. It filters fast even with just gravity. If needed the extra squeeze speeds things up (something my last gravity filter would not allow). Most of the time we just hung up my filter bag walked away and came back when it was done. When I got home I back flushed (also something my last gravity filter did not allow) and bleached per the instructions. It was easy and clearly had some affect as the backwash water was quite dirty. With respect to the filter I really have nothing bad to say about it. For $40 it's a great deal even without the accessories. If I had to be not picky, the only thing I could see making some improvement is some of the accessories. I didn't have any issues with the bags, but others have reported issues, and I've had issues with similar style flasks in the past. I ended up using a 3 liter flask from my previous Katadyne befree and let gravity filter water straight into my 3 liter MSR hydration bladder. This worked great! The fittings that came with it worked just ok. I like to have more hose, so again I stole some from one of my previous filters. I would have gotten by just fine with what was provided, but to get hands off filtering from one pouch to the next, I modified the setup a bit. Last, is a problem I have thats not unique to this filter. Trying to fill a pouch from questionable stagnant water is challenging, the water usually needs some kind of prefiltering (bandana), and needs to be scooped out. The is one of the few scenarios where a hand pump filter with a prefilter on the inlet hose wins out. Overall this is my favorite filter and expect it will be my primary filter from now on. Style: Two 32-Oz Standard Pouches
I bought this filtration system for my inaugural backcountry backpacking trip. It packs small, is very light, and is very easy to use. Simply fill the included bag from the water source, attach to the filter and squeeze. Waterflow is very rapid, though the rigidity of the supplied bags makes filling them a bit cumbersome. A number of reviewers have noted that they are prone to damage as well. Based on my experience, I intend to purchase a Cnoc Outdoors 2020 VECTO 3L Water Container before my next trip as it is much easier to fill from the water source and is more durable. The Sawyer Squeeze can also be used in coordination with a water bladder such as a Camelbak, either by directly connecting to the bladder to squeeze clean water into the bladder (optional kit SP115 Fast Fill Adapters for Hydration Packs required), or by being spliced in-line with the bladder so that the bladder can be filled directly from the water source and the water passed through the filter on the way to the bladder mouth piece (adapter included). The Sawyer Squeeze package contains a syringe for backflushing/cleaning the filter, but based on reviews I ordered the SP150 Coupling for Water Filtration Cleaning and use that in coordination with a bottled water bottle (I used a LIFEWTR bottle) which works extremely well, and provides much better cleaning pressure than the supplied syringe. The $2.99 for the SP150 is well worth the cost given the convenience and functionality it provides, and the repurposed water bottle can double as an extra water container during an outing. For comparison, my companions on the trip were using a GRAYL Ultralight that weighs 16 oz (compared to 3 oz and a much smaller pack size for the Sawyer) and were taking about twice as long to filter the same amount of water, with a much higher ratio of grumbling as well. Pros: • Lightweight • Packs small • Easy to use • Quick flow • Easy to backflush w/additional coupling • Lots of online instructions/documentation available from Sawyer to get maximum utility and performance from the product Cons: • Supplied bags are rigid, cumbersome to fill, and prone to damage • To get maximum utility from the Sawyer Squeeze's flexibility, optional kits/parts are required Overall, I highly recommend the Sawyer Squeeze. ... show more
