There aren’t a ton of floating dust collectors. This is pretty nice. I use it with a 2 hp harbor freight DC. It does a pretty solid job. There will be dust on the table but clears the fly away dust. I imagine a better DC unit would provide better performance but I was pretty happy with what I have. The only issue with blade guard is cutting small material. But that is with all of them, not just this one. You’ll love it ... show more

Once you've bought a SawStop, a few hundred extra dollars will get you this dust collection arm. It does a great job- not a perfect job, as a few bits are always left on the table around the blade. But it is considerably better than SawStop's smaller, less expensive dust collection arm (the $199 version that is often offered as a freebie at the time of purchase). This arm works well. It will take you an hour or two to hook it up but if you have dust collection nearby, you will be ready to go. ... show more

    • Better than the stock setup

We bought this Sawstop Overarm Blade Guard for our shop for two reasons. The dust collection on the stock blade guard/riving knife setup frequently pushed the riving knife over and out of alignment from the blade. Because the vacuum port and guard of this overarm setup is separated from the riving knife, things are working much better. We also wanted to be able to maintain some sort of guarding (purchased for a school) when doing non-through cuts (dados, rabbets, etc.) which this does well. Two gripes: 1. the spring tension on the guard is too high. Despite loosening the tensioner all the way, the guard does not sit properly on the table. It always floats about 3/4" above. 2. On assembly there are some fasteners in the overarm assembly that are a bit to long, to allow the two arm pieces to nest smoothly, so we had to leave them a little loose in order to assemble the overarm. ... show more

It's a powerful dust collector with a couple of caveats. 1: You can't cut thinner than about 3" because it is in the way of your push stick. 2: If you are just trimming an edge, there is a great deal of duct created that comes forward (vs. a through cut where almost all of it goes down into the saw). For those cuts, the included splitter/blade guard does a superior job. Once setup though, it is a BREEZE to push it out of the way and bring it back when you want to use it. I purchased this with high expectations. I have owned a SawStop Saw with overhead dust collecting for 2-years. I decided to buy the Floating Overarm Dust Collector to improve on that. Everything arrived perfectly. Unit is very well built and detailed assembly instructions were excellent. Took me about 2-hours to install. Well I need to send it back. My primary use of the saw is to Cut narrow strips from 1/4" to 3" wide. Upon testing the dust collector, I noticed little to no improvement (See Pictures). I contacted SawStop to see if I had not installed properly. I had installed it perfectly, the problem is the Floating Overhead Dust Collector was not designed for the type of work I do. It was primarily designed for DADO type work. Work that requires the removal of the Riving Knife. SawStop Technology and Engineering is the best there is. To save the hassle of installing and returning an item, I highly recommend calling SawStop before purchasing. Very capable people will tell you if the product is a fit for your applications or not. ... show more

Great accessory to control dust collection. Only part that sucks is you cant use it for thin cuts because it gets in the way of the rip fence .
