I have bought high end knives a couple times in my life. These look great. They were razor sharp and came with one of the better knife blocks I've seen. But the edge quality and the blade strength is the worst. Large chef knife had a large edge roll after a couple days of normal kitchen sink washing. You have to run these on the steel at every use. Total junk.

Incredible knives!

These are knives with Saveur as the labeling, but Cangshan as the actual manufacturer. Cangshan is the arguably the most reputable of the Chinese brands, and they are well-known to source quality steel and their manufacturing methods rival the very best in the field. This set of knives has the usual spread necessary for a kitchen. The sharpening degree is not standard. The two usual sharpening angles are 20 and 15, and these are a targeted 16. I refinished the santoku and boning knife due to the knives being a bit uneven on sight to 15 without much of an issue due to the knife's softer hardness. If you are manually sharpening, the 16 is really not a big issue, but if you are using a sharpening machine, you should consider running more cycles to reshape the edge to a 15. The main two, the santoku and the chefs knife feel even, but I actually prefer the santoku knife between the two. The chef knife is more the European rocking style though I find it a bit short compared with what I would normally expect. The bread slicer is absolutely outstanding without flattening bread on cutting. The steak knives are serrated, which I wish was not the case as they will be very hard to sharpen later. Overall, if you are going to buy a set, this would be a good one. The only knife I would supplement would be the chef's to one that I would feel the most comfort with in terms of length and handling as the included chef knife forces a particular style. The other knives will serve well and are easy to sharpen though not terribly often with the included honer.

These are by far the best set I've ever laid eyes on. Given, I'm not a professional chef or even a good one, for that matter. However, I think we can all agree that having sharp, quality knives is important even when doing the most basic tasks. Cutting onions, meat, fruit, etc., there is not much more annoying than having knives that are dull that you constantly have to sharpen. These, you will NOT have to worry about that. The sturdiness is evident as soon as you unpack them. The handles are made extremely well. They are soft to the touch and comfortable to use but feel weighted. I can't stress enough how comfortable they are in hand. There are 17 pieces to this, and they fit well with the knife block that comes with it. I'm very impressed with the entire presentation of these. I've used and purchased cheaper versions before, thinking that I didn't need something like this. But I do. Everyone does. The price is up there. And going in blind, without much experience with kitchen knives, you may think it's crazy to spend $300+ on a knife set when you've seen sets for less than $100 at Costco. But rest assured, you will not regret this purchase. Sure, you can go and spend $79 on a set that will last 1-2 years, but these will last 10-15, I'm sure. That's a big difference. Quality. Whether a pro or a Hot Pocket cooker, this set will make your life much easier.

If you are going to buy Chinese-made knives, Cangshan does not mess around. This is a really top-notch set in an attractive bamboo and metal block. Very useful assortment, and so far they are all great right out of the box. I would like to see a slightly lower price but comparing the quality with other sets I've tried, I can say this is right up there in the top tier as far as quality for price.
