  • An excellent rooftop tent An excellent rooftop tent
I have been looking at rooftop tents for over 2 years wanting to buy one and while I have purchased lots of things from Brands I'd never heard of before on Amazon this was a big purchase and I was extra cautious and wouldn't pull the trigger until a couple weeks ago. I purchased the San Hima Hotham Lite because my family does a lot of camping and traveling to other states and we were camping out of the back of my SUV, with a tailgate tent and air mattress and all. It was nice but took forever to pull the stuff out of the vehicle and set up the back of the car to sleep and then squeezing our stuff into the front seat was a pain. Well I came across this tent on Amazon and decided the time had come to make my purchase. I ordered the tent on a Sunday morning and was told it would be delivered that following Thursday. A couple days before it was supposed to arrive I realized I had ordered the version that didn't come with the crossbars on top and contacted the seller to see if they sold the crossbars and see how much they would be. When I went to message the seller I noticed they had already messaged me to let me know that I had forgotten to hit the button for their free camping flashlight/torch (which is awesome by the way) and that they were gonna ship it to me anyways. They also said that for some reason when they shipped my tent it had shipped without the ladder and that would be shipped separately also. I was leaving on a camping trip on Friday and started to get upset but said screw it, bought another ladder and went to Home Depot to get materials and I made my own to use for the weekend. I asked them about the crossbars and they said they do not ship them separately. Oh well. The next morning I wake up to another message from the seller. This message was letting me know that my ladder and light had shipped, and that to make up for the mixup with the ladder they were also shipping me the crossbars for the tent for free as well. Awesome. The tent came on Thursday at about 10AM and I had it on my vehicle by noon. I've seen horror stories of people receitent with massive dents in them and other damage but mine came in PERFECT condition, it was beautiful lol. It is easy to mount on the vehicle just make sure your roof rack and crossbars or whatever you mount it to can support the weight of the tent while driving. Opening the tent and setting it up takes less than 5 minutes once mounted. There is plenty of room in the tent for me (6'1" 170lbs) and my wife (5'11" 135lbs) and we weren't squeezed in at all, though there is no way you are fitting a third person or even a medium sized dog in there with us. The mattress seems thin but I still slept well and didn't wake up stiff and sore, though my wife is insisting I find an air mattress that fits (which is difficult not because it is a RTT but because it apparently has odd dimensions for a RTT, it's been I week I'm still looking for one that will fit this well). We slept in it 3 nights over the Labor Day weekend and it was great and my wife and I are planning more camping trips than we normally would because of how easy this tent makes it. We love everything from the show bag to the fact when we close the doors/windows the zipper didn't try to bind at all and were nice and smooth. The USB powered light in the tent works great hooking it up to a power bank and doesn't drain my 60,000mah power bank more than 4% during the night. It has more pockets inside than we had items to stuff in them. It is an overall great value for the money. When we got home from our trip the ladder and flashlight arrived on Tuesday and are just as nice as the tent and then the free crossbars they sent arrived on Wednesday. I am so happy with this purchase and recommend this tent/seller to anyone looking for a rooftop tent. From purchasing the item to dealing with customer service the transaction, while not without it's flaws, worked out wonderful in the end and I couldn't be happier. ... show more

  • This rooftop tent and awning system is wonderful! This rooftop tent and awning system is wonderful!
Color: Gray Size: Hotham
This particular Sanhima rooftop tent is wonderful. It’s well built, the insulation is quite nice in a cold night, it’s quickness to open and set up is less than 5 minutes and it’s breakdown is about 1 minute. We recently took this on a trip for the weekend and were so pleased with the setup. As you see in the video it shows how we set it up, and all the cool features. It has a light bar that plugs in to a battery charger we purchased and keeps to the side. The window vents on the front, sides and in the roof of the tent are easily accessible and have a good netting to avoid bugs coming in. When they close, it creates a nice seal to keep warmth in, although we left the entrance on the back open at night for a great breeze during the night. You can put the ladder on any side with a vented window. The hard shell top has a few pocket area on it. They are very nice to put small things like phones batteries tissues glasses etc. The foam mattress that comes with the tent is very nice. We did end up purchasing a 3 in foam topper though for some extra comfort. The ladder system is nice as well as it telescopes down when your closing it all up. The shoe bag on the side is a nice addition to it and has a specific slot to hang on to. Two adults fit in this, so if you have a small child you could probably get them in there with you both. Three or four small kids could easily stay in this like a treehouse! It’s pretty cool. It’s value is quite well for what your getting. We really enjoyed it. It comes with its own mounting brackets to put on your vehicle, but we purchased a mounting system that we ourselves adjusted suitable for our needs, as you see it’s up higher in the truck instead of on the bed of the truck. This allowed us to place our storage containers underneath on two levels of storage. Some things we wish they had: on the hard shell portion interior, it would be nice if there was a capability to insert a large iPad or device as we had to rig something up to watch movies at night. Also some hooks for the interior would be nice to include, although we just purchased some ourselves. It also would be nice if there were some grips on3 sides of the tent for easier movement of it while installing on the roof. Also the back part of the tent (back of truck area) where the one window/door zipper area has a flap that covers the zipper window. That would be nice if the flap had some sort of pole on it to create an awning to attach to the flap so you could keep that up if desired. We bought some poles and kind of made one ourselves, but it wasn’t very secure. Overall this product is so very well made and was an absolute dream to have on our camp/hike trip. To remove it, it’s a bit heavy, so 2-3 people should be able to place it and remove it. Storage is simple, we harnessed it to the side wall of our garage and it goes flat up against without taking up much space. The customer service was fantastic and helped with all the questions and concerns we had. I would certainly recommend you getting this as it’s Simplified our trip and ease of travel! We also have the Sanhima 180 degree awning. It’s really awesome! I didn’t think it was going to cover as much as it did, but this was big enough for us for sure! Very easy to set up, I was able to hang some lights on it, I had to make a way to do that as it doesn’t come with any hooks at all. But overall, well done and worth the purchase, it was an easy install onto the truck and easy pull out from the bag. It has extension poles to place into the ground and loops to secure them with tent pins that come with the system. Nice and tidy, well designed and very easy to put away. Great addition to our tent. It really looked awesome and several people stopped over just walking by to ask us all about the products. It was fascinating to see how many people would love something like this. I know there are more products we would love to get for this set up and we will keep you all in the loop of further advancement of our adventures! Thank you Vicoffroad! ... show more

  • Happy Camper! Happy Camper!
I have been looking for a rooftop tent for my nephew. He has a 2003 4Runner. I was initially skeptical of buying an ‘off-brand’, but the specs, reviews, and price point checked all my boxes. I took a chance and am very happy I did. 1. Interior bed is about 46” by 80” by my measurements, the sleeping pad is about 2” thick, so it’s about 8” wider than a Twin XL. I’m 5’9” and I comfortably fit inside, lying down and sitting up, although it might be a little snug with a partner. The pad isn’t anything special, but it does the job. There’s enough room when the tent is closed to probably fit another 1 or 2 inches of padding in there squished down, which I will definitely be doing. 2. Hard exterior shell with silicone weather sealing around the outer trim. For under 130 pounds, it feels incredibly solid and is an easy lift with two strong people onto the vehicle. I appreciate how low profile it is (under 5 inches). Haven’t experienced it in a rain or wind storm yet, but because of how solid everything feels, I wouldn’t hesitate to try it out. 3. Setup was under 5 minutes. The hydraulics are rigid, fast, and quiet, but aren’t too difficult to pull down when you collapse the tent. There’s a cord that wraps around the fabric interior to help keep it inside the box, the trickiest part was getting that cord out of the way. 4. The zippers appear to be air/watertight, I tried to close the tent with all the zippers fully zipped up and the tent wouldn’t close because all of the air was trapped inside. That’s great for where I live, don’t want the dust getting in there. 5. Having the optional mesh zip layer on each opening is really nice. The mesh seems to be good quality too. 6. Interior LED light already included is a great feature. It’s not too bright either so it won’t blind you at night. The storage pouches above you and on the sides inside the tent are helpful too. 7. Lockable hinges with an included key to prevent anyone from opening it up. I haven’t mounted it to my vehicle yet, but the mounting hardware appears to be solid. Things to improve: 1. The initial shipment did not come with the advertised included ladder. I saw another review had the same issue. Hence why I haven’t mounted it to be a vehicle. Awaiting response from seller. 2. There’s a handle included on the hinge side to make it easy to release, but it would have been nice to include a handle on the other side as well for easy carrying. 3. The rain fly arms are a little bit awkward to install but do the job. 4. After the tent is closed, there’s a gap underneath where the outer edge of the shell goes over the inside of the tent. I could see that gap collecting dust, time will tell. Overall, very satisfied with the purchase and excited to take it out. Happy camping! ... show more

  • DO NOT TRUST THE FACTORY HARDWARE IT WILL DESTROY YOUR VEHICLE (great othewise) DO NOT TRUST THE FACTORY HARDWARE IT WILL DESTROY YOUR VEHICLE (great othewise)
Color: Gray Size: Hotham
Great value. Overall, you can't get close to this design, this quality, and this space efficiency. Not perfect, definitely has some quality control issues with it and its accessories. Upon careful installation, a couple of weeks on the road, and often and thorough tightening of the included mounting hardware, a single panic stop immediately after hard tightening to save a kitten’s life who wandered onto a busy highway was enough to make the RTT break violently lose from the heavy rear rack on my truck, skid across my roof, across my hood and fender, land in front of me on the grass, slow faster than I could brake on grass and therefore got ran over by my truck. It faired surprisingly well after having fallen off the truck and being ran over, but unfortunately I’ll never trust it on top of my truck again after its ‘journey’ and it’s been given to an employee of mine who needed a cheap and easy (free) treehouse for his 4 kids. The good, the bad, and the ugly: The good: -Great value -Great layout and design -Great Price The bad: -Had a relatively minor leak on our first outing that could be fixed with a piece of seam tape, but not fun to find out about while camping. -Had an instance where I had to slam on the brakes and the tent broke free from my rear rack, slide across my roof, my hood, my fender, and onto the ground. DO NOT TRUST THE FACTORY HARDWARE! -Some rough ends on the accessories; the side tent/shower annex had some rough unfinished edges (ends of seams, sewing inadequacies, etc) in the package I bought The ugly: -If you are a compulsive builder who looks for a great value but is willing to second guess each of the (cheap) designer’s decisions, this is a great option for you. -The mounting hardware is inadequate. I advise replacing all bolts with something higher grade, and not bothering with the factory hand-turn plastic ‘nuts’. Lose those and replace them with some proper nyloc nuts. Maybe toss in some blue threadlocker. But I would prefer to torque and retorque with a torque wrench on occasion. It’s tought to get around the aluminum slotted pieces that fit into the extruded aluminum bottom rails of the RTT, but those didn’t fail on me so I’m not worried about them. The rails also survived surprisingly well (albeit slightly bent) after an impact and a slide. -The directions were inadequate in some regards, and the side tent annex area that I purchased didn’t come with all the hardware needed for our mounting. It was ironic given it was included with the package, but didn’t include all the needed hardware to mount together (if you read carefully, that’s acknowledged in the included assembly instructions but isn’t included in the seller’s description). Another oddball trip to the hardware store was required for me. -Great price, but take it out for 2-3 outings before really trusting it. I don’t trust the overall initial quality, but I would say after 3-5 good days and nights of camping, you’ll figure out what works and doesn’t (aside from mounting hardware). Giving two stars as I believe with some better hardware and more careful attention to torquing and locking procedures it COULD be a solid choice. But installing it as-is from the factory using the hand tightened factory hardware is asking for heartache. ... show more

  • One of the best starter options out there
For the price its a great option for people looking to "dip" their toes into RTT's. There are some improvements I think could be made such as a more comfortable mattress. There is some extra room when closing the tent that can be made useful with a mattress that is thicker, but they are unfortunately sold separately. I found a 2 inch cut in the bottom of my tent when installing, which seemed to only be surface level, but other than that, no other imperfections. Tent does a good job at keeping you warm and insulated, and the blackout feature is 10/10. Nearly slept 2 hours over my usual waking time its so good. The condensation buildup is something that all tents are like, but I would have liked to see a diesel heater cutout or opening for future upgrades. Other than that, the SanHima lite is impressive for its price range, and I think is a wonderful stepping stone for newer campers. ... show more

  • Overall great rooftop tent Overall great rooftop tent
I searched for a year before deciding on a rooftop tent to mount on my 5x10 utility trailer that I turned into a tiny camper. I needed more room for my growing kids. Writing this review after taking it on a 2 week cross country trip. Pros: -It was easy to mount to my trailer, although I did use different hardware than what came with it. The included hardware would have worked ok, I preferred something a little more sturdy. -Very quick and easy to set up and take down. Only takes a minute or two! -The included ladder worked great. -Spent 3 nights in rain and light wind, not a drop of water got into the tent. -Mattress is very comfortable. -Tent is blackout dark, which I prefer when sleeping outside. -Very lightweight and slim compared to other tents I looked at. I felt no drag at all when towing. -Price was comparable or less than many other tents I considered. - Seems really well made, the struts, zippers, and fabric held up perfectly under two weeks of daily use, with packing up and moving every other night. Cons: -The product showed locking hinges but the mine did not come like that. I had to add my own lock that uses a regular master lock. I wanted this security knowing that I'd be traveling cross country on bumpy roads and didn't want to risk the tent popping open on the highway. -The included light bar is finicky. It worked when I tested it at home, but couldn't get it to turn on while I was camping. The power bank was fully charged and the light refused to turn on. It also detached from the clips easily, my kid knocked it down within minutes of the first night. ... show more

Update: The company that is selling this Vicoff-road responded to me in a very short email stating they do not provide the Locking latches with the tent as stated on Amazon. This purchase I had way better customer service with Amazon than the company. Original post: This has been a great tent so far. I recently went on a camping trip in Mount Hood National Forest on the historic Barlow Road and it was extremely windy up there and the tent did excellent and blocked out all of the Wind. It's insulated very well and kept me warm and the included light is excellent it floods the tent with light and it has three different color settings. The tent was easy to install and was installed on a 100 series Land Cruiser and fits perfectly. The zippers are made extremely well and you can have it set up literally under a minute or so. I have a Horizon Hound Down Camping Blanket, Nemo sleeping bag and a sheet on the mattress that I keep in the tent. The mattress is actually pretty comfortable and I don't use my other self-inflating camping mat. I'm 6'3 225lbs. I did have a damaged package that arrived that had to be returned. And had to wait another week for a replacement. Also the company advertises the latches with locks but I received no locking latches. New unit had minor scratches in non-conspicuous areas so not a big deal, nothing a paint marker can't handle, I was compensated via Amazon for these issues. It makes a little road noise over 30 or 40 miles an hour but not bad at all, I took it for a 160 Mi round trip as soon as I got it and it did great on road up to 70mph and off road. If I had to make a complaint about the tent which is very minor I would recommend some type of hook or Loop to hang a fan or attachment off of, other than that it's super solid. Now I don't have to worry as much about mountain lions, bears or Bigfoot in my camp! It's like a mini cabin, I love it! ... show more

Me, a 50 yo female, and my friend, a 56 yo male, installed this ourselves on a soft top Bronco (using TrailFX Bro15 Rack) without too much difficulty. It seems like good quality and is big enough to sleep 2 average sized adults, and maybe a pretty small child. Would buy again! Oh- I did buy stainless steel lock nuts and washers like others recommended to use instead of the black plastic screw on things. ... show more
