Our family enjoys camping trips and driving to lake and mountains for outdoor activities. We decided to get this 270 degree awning for our SUV to up our camping and outdoor living experience and we could not be happier with it. Please note that your SUV will need a roof rack with cross bars installed in order to be able to mount this awning, which is quite long and heavy. It comes with mounting bracket that can be installed on the cross bars on the roof rack and you will definitely need a helping hand(s) and ladder to install it. It was delivered inside a box with very good packaging. I could not believe how heavy the box was but I wasn't surprised when I opened it and saw the quality and craftmanship of the awning and material. Once mounted and securely installed on the roof rack on the car, it's truly very easy open and set up the awning that will provide shades 270 degrees around the car for relaxing time away from UV and rain! All the parts are inside the zippered storage bag, which is mounted on the roof rack and after opening the zipper, you simply fold out the unit around the car. The retractable poles can be folded out from the awning itself then extended to provide support around the awning, which can withstand the strong wind. I love that it also has a built-in LED lights, which is provides lights at night with option to switch to orange light, which apparently does not attract bugs (perhaps they are color-blind?). It would have been awesome if there was an option to attach mosquito net on the awning so that we can stay under the awning at night with the lights on without having to worry about bug bites. I'm hoping that they will make the mosquito mesh net attachment in the future as they have few other add-ons for this awning. Having this awning opened around my car was amazing at the camp ground. We moved the picnic table under the awning and instantly got cool shaded area to sit down and eat when there were no trees around the car. I can see other campers looking at our car with jealousy and some even came over to take a closer look and asked me about the awning. Having this much shaded area away from sun and rain makes a huge difference in outdoor. We recently also used this awning at a church parking lot during the annual bazar where I volunteered to setup a hotdog stand to sell for fundraising. This awning was a hit with a big sign attached from top to bottom and I was able to cook and serve hot dogs under the shade all day. I love their rooftop tent and I'm now seriously considering purchasing that as well, although we are a family of 5 people so we have a huge tent that can fit 6 people comfortably but the rooftop tent looks so cool and would be great for cross country road trip with my wife or for my son who's in college. This company really knows how to make products for car roof tops and I'm really impressed with their product, especially this 270 degree awning, which is really easy to setup and to pack up!

The awning itself is good, everything came new and in the kit. But the base bar to which the brackets are attached is very flimsy, when opened it bends so much that it is scary for the whole structure. I would not call it "free standing". If it is attached to a long luggage rack along the entire roof and the brackets are near the very edges, this will not be noticeable, but for kayak racks like Yakima they will have to be attached further from the edges, and the bar will bend. In addition, the awning is attached to the structure with Velcro, and the opposite part of this Velcro is glued to the metal with some unreliable glue, on the very first day on the beach the awning together with the Velcro was torn off by the wind, the glue on the Velcro is still sticky. It will be necessary to attach it with something more reliable. Well, and fasteks for attaching the straps, they seem to be metal and work well, but after the first trip to the ocean they were covered with rust, I do not know how long they will work like this.

I love this awning so much. It took me a while to attach to my roof rack but mostly because I don't have the right screw and t nuts. I finally figured out that all I need is 1/4-20 1/2" screw and T-nuts. See the pictures. It only took me 5 minutes to screw the awing on the rack and off it goes! A trick to set it up- Don't first set it too high. It will make it hard to plug in the support poles.

Just get it. This thing sets up super fast and you can put it away just as fast. This awning was one of those things that I wished I had bought sooner than I did. Id recommend setting up with two people at least but you can do it by yourself, just more manageable with another set of hands.
