I purchased this hat for my vacation in Cancun. When I tried it on for the first time, it was a little tight, (as expected because I believe I have a larger than average head... approx. 23"). I did try and stretch it a little but I'm not convinced that worked. After wearing it for a while I think it fit a bit better. I wore it to the pool and in the pool while I was chillin' (being careful to keep my head above the water). I also used it to cover my face while sun bathing. It got VERY wet but dried quickly and recovered nicely. The first picture (accented w/red) is from day five of my trip. The second picture (accented w/black) is from day six) If purchasing, you should realize that the brim is quite large. It packed quit well, especially considering the size of the brim. I used the plastic it came in to protect it and also placed one of my sarongs inside the dome to keep it from squishing too much. While I was walking on the street, a gust of wind from a passing bus blew it off, but fortunately I caught it before it got completely away from me. It also blew off once while walking from the pool back to my room, so be careful of the wind! Each time I wore this hat, (which was every day I went to the beach or pool) I received numerous compliments, from "Great Hat!" to "Awesome Style." A kind woman actually made a special trip over to me to let me know that I'd made "Quite the Entrance" when I came to the pool! I decided to customize the hat to each of my swimsuits by placing a colored band around the dome which matched and/or complimented my swimsuit. ... show more

I was looking for a big floppy hat for a Kentucky Derby party and this was perfect. It is great quality and was sturdy/held in place where I wanted it to. The fit was comfortable. I'm a fan of big hats, and this one is BIG! The brim extends out past my shoulders and provides plenty of shade. It's a little loose on my head and I will need to add a sizer inside. It has a tie on the outside that could be used to adjust the size, but I don't like the way it gets pinched in when the outside tie is tightened. It's flexible, but firm enough that it doesn't sag down into my face. The material seems to be very durable. It came in a big shallow box with one side of the brim rolled up a bit, and it did wrinkle just a bit. I've kept it flat for a few days and it seems to be straightening out nicely. Overall a fabulous hat. I'll likely only wear it sometimes since it's definitely an attention-getter and wouldn't look right with just anything I wear. Just wish it came in white, too! ... show more

I wanted a Super Duper sun hat to go out into the sun with. I always forget to bring a hat and end up buying a pathetic offering from the resort I am in, usually after I have burnt myself to a crisp on the first day.I have very fair skin and burn very quickly, (I don't sunbathe but just catch the sun from walking about, sailing or fishing.) I don't get on very well with suntan lotion, so this time I decided to be pro-active and set out to find the BIGGEST sun hat I could possibly find. I stumbled upon the San Diego Ultrabraid X Large Brim SPF 50 on Amazon.com. I read the reviews and thought, "This is the one for me!" I bought the chocolate option, black, according to one review, makes you look like the Wicked Witch of the West. Although, I think paired with the right wardrobe, you could cut quite a dash... I didn't get the straw colour because I thought it might show marks easily. I ordered my chosen chapeau, it came all the way from good old U.S.A and arrived in England within 2 days. I was very impressed. It came in a huge box which amused the delivery man as he bent his legs and braced himself to pick up what he thought was a very heavy parcel, gave a big 'heave ho' and then nearly threw it over his head and off the back of the delivery lorry because it was so light! Excitedly, I opened my delivery. I love the way that you can create different styles with a tweak of the brim, stylish, sophisticated, coquettish, mysterious... I highly recommend this hat, get it, pick the colour that works for you and your wardrobe, or, pick all three! Look AMAZING and never get burnt again, (hopefully.) Mix it up with big dark sunlasses, think 'Jackie Onassis,' co-ordinate and customise it with a large silk flower, something big with lots of petals, (to keep the correct proportions,) or get a silk or satin wide ribbon/scarf to wrap around the brim. Be flamboyant, think Audrey Hepburn in 'My Fair Lady,' and go monochrome and embelish with ostrich feathers for Ladies Day at Ascot. Alternatively, clip a big sparkley statement brooch,(pin) for a bit of 'bling' or a sparkley necklace for something different, just because you can... Wear for casual, around the pool, or a for a more sophisticated occasion and look different every time. Free your imagination and just express yourself, have fun and at all times, be FABULOUS! ... show more
