I purchased this hat for my vacation in Cancun. When I tried it on for the first time, it was a little tight, (as expected because I believe I have a larger than average head... approx. 23"). I did try and stretch it a little but I'm not convinced that worked. After wearing it for a while I think it fit a bit better. I wore it to the pool and in the pool while I was chillin' (being careful to keep my head above the water). I also used it to cover my face while sun bathing. It got VERY wet but dried quickly and recovered nicely. The first picture (accented w/red) is from day five of my trip. The second picture (accented w/black) is from day six) If purchasing, you should realize that the brim is quite large. It packed quit well, especially considering the size of the brim. I used the plastic it came in to protect it and also placed one of my sarongs inside the dome to keep it from squishing too much. While I was walking on the street, a gust of wind from a passing bus blew it off, but fortunately I caught it before it got completely away from me. It also blew off once while walking from the pool back to my room, so be careful of the wind! Each time I wore this hat, (which was every day I went to the beach or pool) I received numerous compliments, from "Great Hat!" to "Awesome Style." A kind woman actually made a special trip over to me to let me know that I'd made "Quite the Entrance" when I came to the pool! I decided to customize the hat to each of my swimsuits by placing a colored band around the dome which matched and/or complimented my swimsuit. ... show more

I was looking for a big floppy hat for a Kentucky Derby party and this was perfect. It is great quality and was sturdy/held in place where I wanted it to. The fit was comfortable. I'm a fan of big hats, and this one is BIG! The brim extends out past my shoulders and provides plenty of shade. It's a little loose on my head and I will need to add a sizer inside. It has a tie on the outside that could be used to adjust the size, but I don't like the way it gets pinched in when the outside tie is tightened. It's flexible, but firm enough that it doesn't sag down into my face. The material seems to be very durable. It came in a big shallow box with one side of the brim rolled up a bit, and it did wrinkle just a bit. I've kept it flat for a few days and it seems to be straightening out nicely. Overall a fabulous hat. I'll likely only wear it sometimes since it's definitely an attention-getter and wouldn't look right with just anything I wear. Just wish it came in white, too! ... show more

Gorgeously huge hat, if you can rock it! Quality: This hat is very sturdy and made with good quality. It is very big making it awkward to pack for vacation. It does slightly fold/wrap and unfolds nicely without damaging the brim. I didn’t try pressing it flat and putting it a suitcase for fear I would snap the spine in the brim. Nonetheless, it made it to Mexico and back in my carryon bag with no problem. Size/fit: This is why I gave it 4/5 stars. I have an abnormally huge head circumference. So, while it did squeeze my head a bit, I’m used to that with hats. However, I wish this hat had just a little stretch. I know that’s not typical in woven hats, but it would have been nice. If you have an average size head, it should fit perfectly or even a little big. Sun protection: It definitely blocks the sun. The brim is huge and bendable. So, you can position it however you need to block the sun. I will say, I got EXTREMELY HOT while wearing it. This could be because it is black or the material is made from. However, I think it’s due to my abnormally big head and how it holds heat easily. In the full sun I couldn’t stand the heat, but when I wore it on a partially sunny day it wasn’t bad at all. Look: This is a very glamorous hat. With the right outfit and shades you may feel like a celebrity. It’s definitely a head turner. So wear it with confidence! ... show more

This hat was lovely, great quality & glamorous! I ended up sending it back though because there is no way I could have packed it into a carryon suitcase without ruining it. It didn't seem like it would recover as well (without steaming at least) from being folded even lightly, let alone any hard creases. I tested it out by folding it slightly over, overnight & it had noticeable creases in it that didn't release the next day. IF you ARE packing a checked bag. THIS HAT is for you, because you can pack IN & around it to keep its shape, but it is definitely bigger than a small carryon suitcase allows without crumpling it up. The major deciding factor was also that it seemed sturdy (heavier) & really large around the head, like loose on my head, which is excellent for casual wear & lounging, but I planned to use this hat on vacation where I knew I would have wind, & wanted a lighter weight hat that could stay with a good gust of wind. Hat is amazing, & I would purchase for using around the pool at home, & also if my head was bigger I guess, this would have been a winner for me! ... show more
