  • Got for my stepdad as a replacement to his old HP that broke.
I really got him this because it's cheap and does what he needs (web browsing). I set it up for him initally, and he's put it through the paces in the year and a half he's had it. It's got a ton of dirt and debris, from him eating on it and taking it outside to watch his nascar races as he smokes his cigarettes. It's taken the beating and abuse so far so that's cool. I can say he'll probably get 3-4 years out of it before he gets another one, and before it becomes obsolete, but it's great for now and does what he needs. We did have some issues getting it connect to a wireless printer, but updating it and powercycling it fixed that. Albeit, if you don't know how to troubleshoot, many people might give up. This isn't specific to this brand, but the the Chrome/Google OS in general. I sometimes think an iPad would've been better for him, and I think that's what'll want next. He was a laptop user his entire life, and as long as he can play his words with friends, smacktalk on facebook, and watch youtube videos and browse fourms. He's happy. It does it snappy enough for him to not complain. It's worth a buy for the price. ... show more

  • I THINK THE MOST SIGNIFICANT REASON I LOVE THESE IS SINCE THEY CAN"T BE HACKED!
SAMSUNG CROMEBOOK 4 CHROME OS 11.6 HD INTEL CELERON PROCESSOR N4000 4GB RAM 32GB I have a little bit of a backstory to add to this review, so I thank you in advance if you continue. We usually by Apple products, and my husband uses that one, since I have trouble with multiple iPhones in the past which I've owned many, and given them to my youngest son. Both him and my husband won't use anything else. I am terrible with technology, since I was a stay at home mom, I didn't get to use my two Masters degrees. After getting frustrated with my iphonesm my husband made a joke and said they are too smart for me. He didn't mean it to offend me because we both laughed about it, and he wouldn't say anything mean spirited. I have stuck with Android phones, and I usually buy them elsewhere. After going to Best Buy I bought many top brand laptops which would last me about a year because of various reasons, with Windows being to large for the model I bought making them useless. In Best Buy I bought a Samsung Google Chromebook, because the person in the Geek Squad told me they can't be hacked and I got more than my moneys worth since it lasted six years. About 13 months ago when my computer gave out I looked on Amazon, and since it offered next day delivery last time I bought this same model. Only because I use computers everyday this model was a lot less expensive, but the only reason I chose it was it offered overnight delivery. It lasted about a year, and since I can be heavy when I type, I put half of the responsibility. That brings me to this review which I saw that the same model was for sale, only for some reason this didn't get delivered for five days. The driver was very kind, since it was raining out he knocked on the door. I bought the identical model because I thought it would be easier to set up, and it was. The screen is nice and bright and I love it. The only problem was the box didn't come with a serial number like my prior one. This isn't a problem that this one came with a totally different charger. I like the smaller size since it's very easy to take with me when I leave our house, It is great for what I use it for. I'm very happy with it, and I noticed that it was simple to set up in five minutes by myself. I hope it lasts more than a year this time. I will update this review if it doesn't last longer than a year, but it's one I recommend since it was something so inexpensive at approximately $239.00. I know it functions well for me, but you probably aren't as bad with technology as I am so you can choose your favorite brand. I like Samsung, and one last thing my one from best Buy was a more expensive model, but I paid an extra $200.00 for the Geek Squad six years ago and it was wasted since they couldn't access this remotely which is excellent news for a customer wanting a hack free laptop go with Google Chromebook unless you choose Apple. I have an Apple store about 25 minutes away where I could take free lessons, I just don't feel like it right now since I Have been very busy, but if this is only going to last a year than I will. I hope sharing my story about these Chromebooks unable to be remotely accessed helps. Thank you for your patience for reading my long review. ... show more

  • Power charger is the HDMI out-put as well.
A good little machine. If you just want to use it to surf the internet and that sort of thing, can't beat the price. I knew the screen wasn't going to be the best before i bought it, and in fairness the images are a little flat, but again I just use it as an internet surfer platform. HOWEVER,..., what i wish I did know before i bought it, and would have been a reason why i WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT IT is the ports available. It DOES NOT have an HDMI port, only the mini port which is how you charge it. So i would also use my Chrome book to watch streaming on my TV, connecting it to my larger TV, to do so i had to buy an adapter to plug in a full size HDMI into the mini, but in doing so you CANNOT charge it, so if you are watching a movie, or anything you have to run off battery power, it will always have enough to get you through a movie, but the stress of watching the batter life slowly march down to zero really plays on my anxiety. Further there is only one USB port, so if you have a cordless mouse plugged in you can't plug in any other USB, example, if you want to download from your phone you have to unplug the cordless mouse, which drives me nuts. But do note that it has bluetooth capabilities so you can always get a blue tooth mouse to solve that problem, I'm just not tech savy enough to pull that off. in the end the lack of a full size HDMI AND also a charger would make me buy a different machine, but i already have it, and i make it work, stress and all when running it off battery at my work station or TV. Just something i wish i had looked into more before i bought it. Hope that helps. Also there isn't a 'Delete' button, why ? ... show more

  • Great Computer For the Elderly
My mom (over 60) needed a computer to pay bills on, and she was worried about virus protection. I figured a Chromebook would be a perfect fit for her, and she has enjoyed it a lot so far. The screen is very clear and bright so it’s easy for her to see. It only took me like 15 minutes to set it up for her, aside from the typical hiccups that come with setting up things for the elderly. (I love you mom but it’s true!) It arrived in great condition, it looks very sleek, and it’s not some monster of a laptop that sounds like a jet engine when you turn it on. I truly cannot speak to anything else when it comes to the function - it visits the electric company website perfectly. But for someone who has no desire to deal with paying bills on a smartphone screen, this is a value that cannot be beat - ESPECIALLY for someone with a fixed income. This didn’t break the bank, and I can trust that there’s no way my mom could accidentally delete System 32, so I am pleased. ... show more

  • Good buy for the price point
This is nice for the price. It does not have the greatest screen for movies, but it gets the job done. I purchased simply to learn to type and it gets the job done. The volumn is low when watching media, but I suppose I could wear earbuds. Haven't tried that yet. I have not noticed any lag in responsiveness or any real problems. Considering the price, it's a nice little machine. Charges pretty fast too with the included charger. ... show more

  • Great for what I paid
I needed a knockaround laptop to take when I travel. I used to take my tablet, but more and more I need a full keyboard and a close to full laptop experience. I don't want to take my work laptop, as I can't risk it. I've now done a couple of trips with this Chromebook - and it fills the bill. Is the screen brilliant sharp? No. Is it lightning fast? No. Does it do the job I bought it for? Absolutely! And for not too many sheckels. I rate this a great buy and am glad I picked it up. Wifi works well. Battery life is great. Recharges quick. I've used it for web surfing, meetings, on-line documents, you-tube watching and movie watching when the hotel options sucked. If I have any complaint it would be I wish the speakers could put out a bit more volume. ... show more

  • School use ***Updated*** School use ***Updated***
***Update*** Second one arrived with no micro-sd slot??? The specs are the same, labeling and serials match up, but no micro slot. Ok so I exchanged it for another one since it was probably a fluke but NOPE my replacement also came sans micro slot. Finally figured it out that the the one with the slot was manufactured in 1/21 and the one without was 5/21. Apparently the 5/21 was in the midst of the chip crisis, so Samsung redesigned the chassis to omit the SD feature, and subsequently scrubbed future models of the SD being standard. The owners manual was even changed to reflect SD being an "option". Dishonest and frustrating but not illegal. I'm disappointed but luckily it is not a deal breaker, just a feature I was expecting. *Original* Honestly so great for school use. I've got one in public high school and one in virtual high school- Public child broke her mid range full size laptop so we bought her this as a 'punishment' of sorts, cause compared to her other one this is a pos (spec wise) and because she needed one for school. Was not about to be on the hook for a school computer either. Once she got all set up on it, Virtual child became jealous and wanted her own, despite the fact she has a top of the line full size laptop. It's been going so well for Public child that we decided to get one for Virtual too. Honestly it's basic and if all you're doing on it is web browsing and school work, this is the end all be all of your shopping. I bought the 4gig models but we also have external drives and memory cards they can work off of if need be. Has no issues connecting to public school wifi or home wifi, no issues at all, actually. I ordered a second one and will continue to recommend! ... show more

  • Excellent laptop for under $300
I am writing this based on the fact that this cost $234. I see many reviews here complaining about the screen. Remember what you have purchased. This laptop is fast, light and well made. There is even a good amount of storage for a personal computer. Yes, the screen is not as vivid as a $1000 computer, if that is very important to you, buy a more expensive laptop. For those who need to use email, browse the web, stream etc. you can not go wrong with this. There is one USB port and one USB C port. There are inexpensive attachments if you need hdmi or more ports. I highly recommend this chromebook. ... show more
