  • Samsung 55" Neo QLED QN90A 4K Television
Size: 55 -Inch Style: TV Only
I don't normally write product reviews, mainly because most things are subjective to individual taste and experience. Keep in mind that your experience may not be the same as mine, simply because people see things differently due to eyesight and so on. In my opinion, this is a very good quality television. Keeping in mind I purchased it less than a month ago and received it on September 11th 2021. I researched 55" TVs for approximately two weeks before settling on this one. I visited a number of retailer websites such as Target, Best Buy, Walmart and of course Amazon. I read many reviews on various brands and models of TVs of this size, Sony, Sony Bravia, LG, TCL, Samsung, Vizio, etc. I also compared features and specifications on the models as I began to narrow my search. I also visited the Samsung wesite to research this particular television. I am not going to go into a bunch of details as you can and should do your own research and comparisons. I also visited several independent testing and review websites such as CNET. I viewed a few YouTube comparison videos as well..mainly between QLED and OLED. I came very, very close to purchasing a LG OLED type television but in the end decided against that type due to the problem of ghosting and burn in that people experienced with the OLED type televisions. I saw this in some YouTube videos of sets that had been tested over certain periods of time. Also, comparisons in how pure black levels were and backlight blooming, etc. The blooming and haloing (white against black) seems to be a big complaint people have of backlit led type televisions and not having pure blacks. The OLED type televisions claim to have the blackest black and no backlight blooming, as they have no backlighting. The led pixels are self lit so they themselves provide the light and color. Therefore, if the scene is black the pixel is off, so you can't get any blacker than that. However, as mentioned before, there is the risk of image ghosting and screen burn in. Especially where tv station logos and banners are present in a particular area of the screen for long periods of time. I received the television delivered right into my living room by Amazon. The box was in great condition so I wasn't terribly worried about shipping damage. The box was designed for ease of unpacking. Simply follow the directions. Basically, you just cut the banding, then lift the box off over the television. The assembly and setup instructions are right on top. There is a box base and foam support for the TV, so the TV should just stand on it's own. Mine did. Then you will lift the tv out of the box base and lay it on it's face so the stand can be mounted. I laid it on my bed. The stand comes in two pieces that will be put together using four provided screws, then the stand will be mounted to the television using four provided screws. I was a bit concerned with the center pedestal type stand, when shopping for this tv but don't worry, the main part of the stand is constructed of a quite substantial and weighty metal. There was a protective plastic film on my television's screen and bezel that will carefully need to be removed. Then follow the onscreen step by step directions to set up the television, Wi-Fi and Apps that you may have (Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, Disney, ect.). The remote control requires some getting used to. It is not a conventional remote at all. I was able to navigate the setup fairly easy with the remote but in actually controlling the tv in daily use, I had to later visit the E-manual for more specifics. It is a smallish remote that fits well in your hand as opposed to the big clunky ones we've all had for years, with a button for every function. This remote has some buttons that have multiple uses. The saving grace, if there is one, is the fact that many things can be achieved through accessing of the onscreen Home display using the remotes "home button". I deducted a star for the remote. On the positive side, it does not use batteries. It has a solar charging panel on the back and also can use a usb charger like a cell phone (charger not included). It does seem to last quite well without having to be recharged. I have to say that the television had a beautiful picture right out of the box. It has one of the brightest screens I personally have ever seen. I actually had to go into the settings and turn the brightness down a bit for my taste. It also has bright, vivid but natural colors. Like most modern televisions there are several preset screen setups to choose from or you can adjust everything to your own taste. I will say that this tv has the brightest whites and blackest blacks I've ever seen on this type of screen. Where there are black bars on the sides or top and bottom of the screen for various aspect ratios, the black bars are pure jet black. I have not witnessed any haloing or backlight blooming so far. I had a Samsung curved panel UHD television previously and these things were clearly visible on it. The audio on this TV is exceptional in my opinion for a flat panel television. It has several speakers ...whatever the size but they do a great job. I have no where near maxed out the volume. I believe the specifications stated that this TV has 60 watts of power for the audio. I have no need of a sound bar with this one. I do use an audio/ video system but I only like to use it for theater sound when watching movies, concerts, ect. I don't like to have to use it for normal tv viewing and I don't have to with this set. This television is a bit more expensive than others out there but keep in mind that this television's screen has the latest technology built into it. I hope this helps and I do generally respond to Amazon questions if you have one that I can answer. Good Luck! ... show more

  • Was worried, but I'm enjoying this TV!
Size: 75 -Inch Style: TV Only
Update: I've had the 75" version of this TV since March. I love it so much. I have other TV's with bloom problems. This TV has some kind of crazy bloom reduction from regular viewing angles. It's amazing. Sure, everyone knows OLED is awesome. However, it's not as well known how great this TV is as an alternative to OLED. It's big, beautiful, and crazy bright--much brighter than the LG OLED. It's very thin throughout never more than ~ 1 1/2" inches anywhere. It's a gamer's TV. It's very low latency (5.3ms), supports VRR, and is killer for gaming. No fear of burn-in so use it as a monitor, leave static images up, etc. There's a lot to love about this TV. I use it primarily for PC, PS5, and XBox gaming. I'm typing this out on it right now. Also, watch the LTT (Linus Tech Tips) video on this TV. It's similar to my experience with the TV. Original Review: So I was apprehensive ordering this before any real information was out. It's not cheap. I have the 75". This TV has a stunning picture. It's big bright and beautiful. I think it's important to know why you're choosing this TV because it's expensive. It's because you want the best picture you can find but you don't want OLED because of it's risk of burn-in. So the next best thing is this TV for 2021. Imagery looks amazing on this TV. That said, it's QLED with local dimming. So you know it's going to potentially have blooming, dirty screen effect, and black crush. I was surprised that my TV had very little DSE if any. In fact, the variation in brightness on the screen during a DSE test looks more like a gradient from the anti-glare filter. DSE is very low on my TV...if any. The blooming on my 75" is very minimal. The contrast is really amazing on this TV with inky blacks and very little blooming. I mean, there is some blooming with small text on a black background for example. This is not an OLED TV but the tv delivers incredible contast so you're going to get some blooming sometimes. That's the price you pay to avoid worrying about burn-in and OLED. The only thing that is very apparent is black crush when viewing things like star fields on a pitch black background. It seems like it could be fixed with a firmware update. It's the only thing I'm not loving about the picture. I also wish this TV had at least two HMDI 2.1 ports and that the user interface was streamlined. Being forced to agree to their user agreements to get firmware updates is bull also. Also 4K @ 120 FPS and VRR worked great with the XBox Series X. I think the Game Bar is a nice addition to the TV as I bought it with low latency in mind for when I'm gaming. My impression is that this is the best non-OLED TV out there for 2021, especially if you plan to do some gaming on it because of TV's focus on proper gaming support including the Game Bar, 120 FPS update rate, and VRR support. My advice is if you want to treat yourself to a really great TV for your new PS5 or XBox and you don't want to worry about burn-in, this is likely what you're looking for. When you get it, just enjoy the big beautiful picture and don't scrutinize the known trade-offs of QLED to closely. Just enjoy it. ... show more
