This Samsung M9 is my first OLED monitor, and I chose this over my preferred LG brand because Samsung describes it as “Metal Build”. On receiving it, I was disappointed to see that it was had a plastic chassis painted to look like aluminum. On the other hand the included Stand was all metal and solidly built. Installing the stand was very easy. But the setup was unnecessarily complicated. You needed to set it up through the “smart” Samsung os first with a Samsung account. Setup was relatively straightforward, but then there was nothing about using it as a monitor. As a smart OS it did have the most popular apps for streaming and that’s good. It also updated its firmware once connected to Wi-Fi. I use a separate Wi-Fi for internet devices for safety. It also offered to optimize picture and sound, which I let it do. The audio and picture quality was very good. But back to using it as a monitor, I connected it via HDMI to my thunderbolt 5 dock and started my MacBook Pro. The signal was recognized and it worked. So, no issues with that. I then connected the monitor via the USB C port so I could use the built in web cam, but the monitor kept insisting that there’s no signal on the HDMI port and didn’t auto detect the USB C connection. I finally chose the USB C port manually using the remote control that was included and it still didn’t detect a signal. I then had to choose pc for it to finally connect. This is not great. But the saving grace is that it remembered the USB C connection once I chose it manually and looked for a signal at that port. So, it’s not great as a monitor to auto detect signals. Once connected the display is quite nice and the web cam is recognized by FaceTime. So, unless you want a TV/monitor I would pass on the Samsung M9. For one, it’s pretty expensive for a plastic build when they claim it’s a metal build monitor. Connecting to a computer via its USB C port is not intuitive and it doesn’t detect a video signal. You have to do it manually. If it wasn’t such a chore to return it and purchase a LG OLED monitor instead. On a positive part, the Samsung smart OS part is pretty good and so is the audio. The biggest problem is that the setup is all about that aspect of this screen and not as a monitor. Samsung has sunk to a new low by calling it a “metal build’ while instead making the chassis out of plastic. The rating reflects this plastic build, as well as the emphasis as a streaming screen instead of a dual use monitor, all at a higher price than similar monitors with better specifications and performance. ... show more

I pre-ordered this item as I was very excited for this product. It works well but given expectations of being able to smoothly transition between devices, it does fall short and additional equipment is required to work as advertised.

I’ve have this monitor for while now so I feel confident in my review: You pay a premium price but there’s nothing special about this monitor. I have a regular monitor (same size) with 1/4 of the price. Same brand. Comparing both side by side, I couldn’t see much difference between them (if any). Plus this Samsung user interface is unbelievably awful. They use the same system as their TVs, and oh my gosh, they’re bad. I’m telling you, unless you are a super high level pro gamer and you have the budget, I would say maybe… otherwise, I promise: it’s not worth it at all. I’ve been extremely impressed with the Samsung 32” OLED M9 Smart Monitor (2025 model). I've put it through its paces and rigorous trials over the past few months and it has performed and exceeded my expectations time and time again. From the moment it powered on, the picture quality immediately stood out. The 4K QD-OLED panel delivers incredibly sharp text and vibrant, realistic color. My first thought was that it looked like an oversized high-resolution smartphone display as the clarity is that striking. Between using it to edit and review 4K drone media content to using it as a digital audio workstation for music production, upgrading from my previous 32" display to this higher resolution OLED panel made an incredible difference. As someone who's blind in one eye, the increase in resolution allows me to see more tracks, menus, and detail at once, which makes editing and arranging much more efficient. The improvement when reading screen text and interface elements means everything appears crisp and easy to read, reducing eye strain during longer sessions. Additionally, it brings my 4K drone content to life and makes video editing so much easier for me. Build quality is excellent. The stand feels solid and it's very well designed, with smooth height adjustment and its easy to rotate into portrait mode. Setup was easy and straightforward and the monitor delivers exactly what a premium display should. The built-in smart features are also a nice bonus. With Wi-Fi connected, you can access streaming apps and Samsung TV content directly from the monitor without needing an external device. Additionally, you can easily connect the monitor to your desktop via wifi and it not only looks great, it's also responsive plus it's easy to connect other devices to it as well. All in all, the interface is very intuitive and simple to figure out and use. Although I've never been heavily into gaming, the 165Hz refresh rate and ultra-fast response time on the M9 should make this a strong option for gamers with a good graphics card. This is a high performance monitor with a premium price, but the display quality, smart functionality, and versatility make it an excellent choice, especially for anyone who does creative work where clarity and color accuracy matter. I'm very impressed with this Samsung Smart Monitor! The picture color and clarity is absolutely stunning! The OLED really delivers an immersive viewing experience. It's an outstanding, high-end option for entertainment and gaming. The minimalist, sleek design looks great with my setup. The 32" screen size is perfect for desktop use and smaller spaces. I really like that I can adjust the height and tilt of the screen. The mount also pivots left to right. The stand is very sturdy and stable. The monitor is well balanced and wouldn't easily tip if bumped, moved, or adjusted. All of the materials and components are an excellent quality. The built-in camera is standard in comparison to other monitors. The camera doesn't have a privacy slide, which is a feature I appreciate in other devices. The speaker sound is surprisingly good. Though speakers are an easy upgrade, I don't think they're a necessity from the outset. Especially, if you're gaming and wearing headphones. I'm not one to fuss with display or sound options, but this monitor can be optimized to meet your needs if you're a person who likes to dial-in all the settings. I love that the smart app navigation is the same as my Samsung TV; making setup fast, easy, and the monitor ready to use straight out of the box.
