They're not overly thick to avoid altering the texture, but they're decently durable. They're a slip, not a zipper. This silk pillow case is very silky feeling and cool at first touch. I loved the green color. It doesn't have a zipper, but a fold to go over the other side of the pillow that does not have a seam. I found it to slip off my pillow a lot, probably because my pillow is pretty fluffy. It washed well and was really nice to sleep on. I stopped using it lately because I forgot about it and since I haven't gotten a smaller pillow to try it with. These are so beautiful, with a shine that is classy, not tacky. They are very soft (I'm actually shocked by the softness) for being satin material. They feel very similar to silk. Pillowcases are a good quality satin. Nice color, just as pictured. The negative is that my pillows keep sliding out of them. I have bought satin pillowcases before, but they had a zipper enclosure, these don’t.
