  • Needs locking dowels for the cross brace
I haven't really used it yet just set it up to make sure it functions. The aluminum poles are thin and cheap with a very flimsy plastic locking cam inside the pole's. The cam looks like it's just a matter of time before it breaks. My biggest problem with the awning is the dowel pins that locate the top cross members to the ground poles. The dowel pin slides into to the header that the ground poles are connected to and there is no lock or cotter pin to keep them in place. If it's windy they'll slide right out so you have to bring your guy lines back towards your vehicle to keep the pins in place. This is just awkward and guy lines just need to span away from the vehicle not towards it. If you want to spend the time to fix this issue it can be done. Overall for the price I'm good, if I can get at least 1/2 doz. uses out of it I'll be satisfied. ... show more

  • Quality risks aside, an well done market clone.
Product fits the bill. Getting a decent vehicle awning nowadays isn't a several hundred dollar venture. Save your money. Products like this are nearly clones of the big guys. The fabric is what to be expected I do not expect any issues with water, the aluminum is thinner lighter duty, as are the big brands. Trying to put the awning up for the first time I noticed a warp in Chanel that holds the horizontal rods.I also noticed they give you the option to flip the mounting side (pre drilled holes on the other sides) so really doesn't feel like that big of a deal but still unexpected damage. Things I like, it's light. They include bracket hardware ( not useful for my unique application, but most it would work fine) guide ropes and and generic tent anchors. All tucked in a bag that's made out of the same material as the awning (really like the bag for some reason). And the zippers are very robust on the storage bag What I'm not a fan of is that in the hardware they give you there is only 4 short mounting bolts, 4 more would have been great. Didn't use the longer bolts as I didn't need their brackets. Also, My guide lines came damaged, plastic broken. Thought to message the seller if they would replace but couldn't find how? Not the end of the world but they were damaged in the bag stored in the tarp material so they must have been packed damaged? Also that SAMOUT is printed very large, and in a very orange font. Would have been nice if it was smaller, I probably wouldn't have messed with it. But black spray paint seems to attach to the storage bag unusually well. Also unsure if it's not typical but seams don't have any kinda seam sealing on them but installed in the rain, and water didn't seem to be an issue. All in all I've just installed it, first trip will tell but easily a 4 star product as delivered and easily 4.5 stars with some small additions on part of the user. ... show more

  • Buy your own hardware
Color: Awning: 6.6ft x 8.2ft, 54ft²
I was disappointed that the exterior case arrived damaged. Many other buyers have commented on the quality of the mouting hardware. The L-bracket is fine, but the bolts and nuts warrant consideration. The nuts are nylon threaded and may be locking. When they go on, they are not meant to come back off. I ended up sheering the bolts when I decided I wanted to adjust the mounting slightly. Once the shade was mounted however, I have been reasonably happy. ... show more

  • A decent, but not great knockoff.
From someone who used to own the ARB equivalent: Packaging is very poor for a dense item, in very cheap cardboard. They use a cm thick light duty foam to pad the ends, but my box was ripped about 10” from the end, so that foam was long gone and the metal frame was bent, plastic broken. I do remember ARB’s being shipped in a very solid cardboard tube but that was years ago. The brackets included were not terrible and would work in most cases of use, but for someone who spends a lot of time off road on rough terrain expect to replace them. They did attach fine and secure to my Gobi racks mesh but I did have to buy more hardware myself to make that happen. I don’t believe ARB includes brackets. Actual use: The poles included feel very light duty but are of the twist and lock mechanism. The lock seems very sturdy so there’s no issue there, but whole thing doesn’t inspire confidence. Where these mount to the thin metal frame, is actually metal. I’m not sure why that was done because in real use this awning will not always be able to be deployed/setup with perfect 90 degree angles. And these metal “joints” have no give in them. You end up bending the metal frame if you need to have the poles at any various angle. If I remember correctly the ARB used a flexible “joint” so you had much more flexibility in whatever situation you needed protection from.(sun, rain, wind) Material: The fabric that makes up the awning is fantastic. Feels very thick, and high quality. Seems to be on par with ARB but extended use of both might end up with a different outcome in longevity. Exterior “case” Think vinyl material with HUGE BRIGHT ORANGE “SAMOUT” on it. Kinda lame. No branding would be better, or a lighter gray that’s more subtle. Looks like it’ll hold up well, can’t speak to fading from sun exposure. Zippers don’t tuck in at the ends of the zipper, so they rattle around. I just make sure the zipper is towards the rear of the vehicle. The guy lines included in this awning are horrible. Not even paracord, more of a twine type material that the thin metal frame frays instantly. I relaxed this with paracord immediately. The metal frame definitely seems a little too think for my liking but regardless it holds up. I had set the awning up (with guylines) and Gomes to bed. a storms rolled through with very high wind and rain, the awning stayed attached and stable. I was surprised about that. I think that’s about it. After owning an ARB awning I simply couldn’t be happy with this and returned it. In addition to the damage it sustained in shipping. It will definitely achieve a similar result to the ARB but it does not do it as well. ... show more

  • Get what you pay for
Color: Awning: 6.6ft x 8.2ft, 54ft²
Does the job at a cheap price. Has some cons, like some slack in the awning that causes water to pool a little. Made it through 2 campervan sessions so far. I like it

  • Buy your own hardware!!!
If you buy one of these, use your own nuts and bolts. Teflon nuts froze onto the bolt about a half inch down. Hoping the awning quality is better than the hardware they give you.

  • Good & affordable
Color: Awning: 6.6ft x 8.2ft, 54ft²
Not bad at all. Mounted it by drilling holes in my crossbars, installed easy after that. Has endured rain, no leaks, but will pool on top if you don't lower the front legs. Do not leave open after rain if temps will drop below freezing, I accidentally did and the zipper teeth were frozen so I couldn't put the awning away, oops! Would recommend. ... show more
