Gelly Roll pens are to my teenage years what text messages are to youth now. They've been around since before the millennium, and are still the best colored gel pens I have tried. I have hundreds of gel pens from bargain brands (Lolliz, Jewlescent, Caliart, and Gelwriter most notably) and well known brands like Pilot, Pentel, and Papermate (all are great for writting in primary colors), but they just don't compare to the variety and quality of these. The tips are better constructed, the ink flow is perfect, and the density and fluidity of the ink is unparalleled. The only issue with them is there just aren't enough colors and variety (though I'm pretty sure they had a lot more available at the turn of the century). The two everyone should have are Metallics and Stardust (also known as Tiara). Definitely get a pack of clear Stardust too so you can turn ordinary colors into glittery ones. Also, Moonlight and Classic if you want solid neons and primary colors. Glaze (also know as aqualip) and Souffle are best if you're using them on non porous surfaces. The only ones I feel like I wasted my money on are the gold/silver shadow. They work very well and look beautiful, but every color is overwhelmed by the gold or silver so they they end up looking the same. Basically, buy a single open stock gold and silver, and you'll be good. When coloring, these have a very wet and smooth feel so they go on easily; however, unlike my Gelwriter pens which also have a very liquid and smooth application, these dry much quicker because they don't release excess ink. (Note: Souffle and glaze are exceptions as they release quite a bit). The tips on these are very consistent, both in the thickness of the lines they produce and ink dispersal. Every bargain brand I've tried always has at least a few bad and irregular tips. In the coloring gel pen world, these are about the most expensive ones you'll find but they're worth it depending on how serious you are about coloring. I wouldn't buy them for kids or those who aren't even sure they like gel pens; but if you've tried the bargain brands and want to invest in something more consistent, buy these. ... show more
