  • A little hard to get used to but it's great once you get the hang of it
The wire feeds with a ratchet style gear setup inside. One pull of the trigger feeds about 2 or 3 inches of wire, so it's very controllable. The thing you have to watch out for is the wire bunching up inside at the spot where it feeds into the tube. This only happened a couple of times until I got used to using it. Make sure the surface of what you are soldering is good and hot before you pull the trigger, if you do that it will work just fine. The only thing I didn't like is the spool holder, it will not hold the 1lb spools. However, the way it's made, you can make your own spool holder out of some sheet metal and attach it to the gun pretty easily. I'm old fashioned and was very skeptical about this setup, but after using it for a while, it is worth the money. I still use my pen style iron, but when I have a lot of soldering to do, I pick up the spool gun. ... show more

  • Seemed like a good idea
The media could not be loaded. Ok, this little wonder smoked and smelled like is was melting down on first use. Everything gets hot, but the tip. Also, this little wonder needs an insolating rest, when you put it down, it will melt whatever it is resting on. The feed system does work well. I would proceed with caution in using this. During the initial melt in phase, do not use in your house. It needs a lot of ventilation, recommend going outside when it is first energized. Then, you will need to some sort insulating material to allow you to put it down. The main shaft area gets very very hot, it glows! See pics. The tip eventually gets hot and it does solder. Comes with a solder vacuum that does work. The kit DOESN'T include a replacement tip. Do I recommend this little wonder? Yes, if you are prepared to start it up in a very well ventilated area and have a place to put it dpwn while it is hot. ... show more

  • Interesting Concept
Works as advertised. The quality seems good. The problem I have is that the tip is a bit large for some fine electronic soldering and other is no easy way to keep the tip clean as t is bent and the solder nozzle gets in the way of cleaning All in All pretty good .
