  • Wonderful for heat shrink - worked great for 2 years
Style: Butane Soldering Torch Kit
This thing is great. I used the heat gun attachment most of the time for heat shrink. This thing put down way more hot air than a similar model Bernzomatic that cost twice as much. Very happy with it, but could have done without the safety latch. I am guessing the safety is a big brother gov requirement, but I did remove it by unscrewing the cover at the top and carefully reassembled. It lived in a shop with zero kids around and plenty hazards way worse then a butane torch. Please note I used past tense. Just yesterday the ignition pooped the bed - but it is almost 2 years old now and I used it probably 10 times a day, each for 60 seconds, at about 2 or 3 days per week - so whatever that breaks down to - 30 minutes run time per week. I am pretty sure I beat the snot out of it. The metal and shields got really hot. I am still pretty happy. I am wondering if the excess heat from the hot air attachment cooked part of the ignition system. BUT for $39 I'll just buy another. Luckily I had a backup at home bc I liked it so much I bought one for my personal tool chest. There are other butane heat guns out there (a one red one which I really like, has a flex head, but it's too big and hot for small stuff) but good ones are north of $70 and they don't throw down as much hot air. Again, the Bernzomatic is nice, but it was over twice the price and doesn't throw down a lot of hot air. To heat shrink 2 each 24 AWG wires, it takes 2 to 3 times longer to shrink with the Bernz model. I'd take this product over the Bernz any day. Can't beat it for the price either. ... show more

  • Can't do a soft blue flame.
Style: Butane Soldering Torch Kit
This is a well made torch, and works ok if you need maximum heat and maximum heat transfer all the time. Unfortunately there is no mixture adjustment, so you are stuck with a jet flame that will burn or melt many items. For throttling back, any of the 503 torches or the Ravs torch work much better. They can do an amazing soft blue flame that is great for shrink tubing or lighting handwarmers. This in contrast to a yellow flame lighter that makes lots of soot and paints things black. The start button is rediculously hard to press. It is difficult to tell if it is locked or unlocked. The unlock procedure is a pain, and it relocks after one press. If it doesn't light you have to unlock it again. I would not use the Lexivon torch as is. I will either take it apart and modify it, or return it and get more 503 torches. Update: The people at Lexivon are wonderful! They reached out to me, and replaced my sticking torch. The replacement works better, although the button is still a bit hard to press. I did figure out how to do a soft blue flame. I have to block off the air feed holes with a piece of silicone tubing. The built in air adjustment does not seal tight enough to get there. I did try out the little catalytic nozzle. Now this is unique, and reduces the temp somewhat relative to the torch flame. Haven't tried lighting a handwarmer with it yet, but I am optimistic. Now I want one of their in-line torches. ... show more

  • Works fantastic!!
Style: Butane Soldering Torch Kit
I use the heck of of this little torch mostly for the tiny heat gun which is a big surprise to me. It works so well on small spots and for heating wax amp to a smooth finish. The only draw back is I have a hard time starting the torch. It will only start 50% of the time. The safety lock also sticks making it hard to light (why we need this feature I don't know). In spite of this i really like this little torch.------Review modified. See below for some fixes if you are having the same issues of having a hard time starting the flame the mini heat gun feature. Use high quality butane per manufacturers specifications. My issue did not fall here read on. How to engage heat gun feature 100% of the time. Gently push trigger in until you hear the gas hissing and then slowly push the trigger until you hear the igniter click. This gives the tiny chamber enough time to fill with enough gas to ignite every single time. The same can be said for the torch itself. Don't mash the button treat it with a gentle touch and it will light every time. So the review turns out to be user error. The thumb safety on mine was sticking and I was fiddling with it after the merchant rep reached out to me. I was trying to one hand ignite the torch and a small snap happened and now the thumb switch is operating flawlessly. My guess is a bit of flashing on the plastic? Nevertheless it seems to be working in both right and left hands smoothly and without issues. I will alter my review to 5 stars. Terrific little torch. ... show more
