  • Initial review
I just installed this and it seemed very straight forward, for me. I have installed a few of these over the years so it was fairly simple to install. The package came intact without any damage to the box or the internal items. All items were there and has a great booklet with decent instructions. I like the design and how it fit into the rig. I will be testing this out in the next few weeks and will come back and update my review. The only question/concern I have is that the wired/wireless controller is one in the same and seems to work great. They sent a battery that I assume is for the controller and the controller is already working wireless....the only question that I have yet to answer is "How do I charge the battery for the controller?". There is nothing in the documentation that speaks to it, if the extra battery is for the controller (logic says yes), how long the battery will last. The concern here is how does one keep the spare battery with you and not lose it and how long will the wireless last? Can you buy spare batteries for the controller? I will try and add some pics shortly. ... show more

  • Fair priced. Seems like a well made wench.
Color: TANK12000
Variety of reviews. I suspect the bad reviewbcame from people that aren't familiar with using a winch, and didntvget gears locked in correctly. Or didnt supply high enough amperage, ore didnt give the winch cool down time. 45 sec use, 15 sec for cool down. I expect years of use out of mine. I haven't used it yet. So I cantvgive a true rating. I like the winch rope. Spools better and wont pich cable. It all seemed well made, and discommect to free spool out rope was smooth. Not something I will use very often. But expect it to do its job. Will update when I do use it. Should becsoon with winter getting closer. ... show more

  • A seemingly sturdy winch, with the cheapest electrical parts ever
Color: 12000LB
Got this for my tj wrangler, and it seemed like a good bargain. Winch is heavy, seems to be constructed nicely, and I have used it already to pull a 3/4 ton truck out of the sugar sand, he got stuck in. This Main issues with the winch, are electrical related. First and foremost, the "power cables". Never in my life have I found a cheaper, flimsier, more poorly built set of "cables" in my life. I trimmed the red power cable to fit, and the crimp on a terminal. The "cable" is super-flimsy, so I decided to cut open the piece I trimmed off, to see what was inside. Imagine my surprise/disappointment to find a bunch of loose wires, just laying inside the jacket. They aren't twisted, braided or otherwise compacted together to form a cable. They are literally just a hollow tube of red plastic filled with loose, bare wires. The first time these get a serious load on them, they will start individually melting, and the "cable" will fail. That is the secret to the flexibility, there is no cable here, just a tube of loose wires, as thick as strands of human hair. SERIOUSLY. The remotes, previously mentioned by multiple posters, are cheap, junky plastic, reminiscent of a cereal box toy, or a cheap party favor given out at a kids birthday party. They are absolute garbage. After a single use, one of mine died, so i had to use the spare. (Obviously the reason for 2 remotes in the first place, they know they are junk) I have a battery disconnect switch between the winch and battery, for safety and to ensure this thing doesn't drain my battery, due to failed electronics. I am going to rewire the entire winch, from battery, to and including, the relay box, with actual battery cables, and see how it will perform then. The last pic shows the bolt for the Fairless, mounted to my Hooke Road bumper. After tightening the bolts (with blue Loctite added) I had to use the death-wheel, and cut the bolt off flush with the nut, to mount this winch. Look closely, there's enough clearance for a credit card between the bolt and winch frame. It's tight, but it will fit. I did get a cover for it too, mostly to help protect the synthetic line from UV damage. For the money, it is a solid winch, it just has craptastic electronics. I would have gladly paid more, for real cables, and a remote that didn't seem like a poor kids favorite cereal prize. ... show more

  • not as pictured
Color: 12000LB
Winch seems okay. The hardware was junk, buy new bolts if you get this winch. It also did not come with the snatch block that is pictured which was the main reason for the low star rating. We will see how it holds up.

  • Bad Instructions
Color: 12000LB
NOTE: Written before I decided to take another relook at the wiring and decided it made no sense the way it was wired, moved the small black wire to a chassis ground, then lo and behold the damned thing spins like a top. Great winch, lousy directions. It kinda worked, so I overlooked it's defect past the return period (my mistake.) The solenoid goes on-off-on-off repeatedly and rhythmically when you're using it, seems like you don't get as much power as it's capable of because the solenoid doesn't maintain. Also, sometimes the remote catches on "on" and that can be unsettling. I'll keep using it because I can't return it now but won't be buying one again. ... show more

  • Pretty good product bad customer service
Color: TANK12000
Overall the winch was easy to install and did what I asked it to do until it didn't. I died mid pull so had to use other means to recover. Took the winch off and pulled the motor apart and water had gotten in and trashed the insides. I contacted Rugcel about resolving the issue but they refuse to email me back once I mentioned the seal had failed and asked if this was covered under warranty since the winch was only 5 months old. Unfortunately they seem to not want to contact me or stand behind their product so will likely be purchasing a different brand in the future ... show more
