I had a (at least) 10 year old MTX Thunder 500d that was bridged at 2ohms and claimed 500watts pushing a Cerwin 10". A few days ago that bad boy smoked up. This is about 1/3 the physical size and seems to put out similar power although I have the dials maxed and never had to do that with the MTX. Sounds great, and only get warm to the touch after a lot of driving. The one thing is that the power terminals are small. 8ga wire is barely fitting. 4 stars because of this. ... show more

Cerwin Vega made some fantastic amps back in the day, but this is not one of them. This mini-amp is made in China, and apparently the manufacturer licensed the Cerwin Vega name. I was expecting it to be small, but it felt much lighter than I had expected. Besides the amp itself, there was (1) black mounting screw, (2) 25 watt mini fuses, and one RCA plug to speaker wire adapter. Oddly there was no place to insert the fuses into the amp, and there was no fuse holder. One of the (2) speaker set screws was also missing, so It appears to have been previously returned without all the parts, and there was also no manual or other paperwork in the box. The hole for the power and ground wires are much smaller then 8 AWG, so I was not able to test it today as the amp this is replacing used 4 AWG power and ground which is what I expected this one to use as well (since both amps claim to provide 500 watts at 2 Ohms). I've asked for a replacement unit since this one has too many missing parts, and I will update my review once I have the new one. ... show more

It's not the CV of the old days but does power a Sundown E10v4 @ 1.6ohm. Very similar amp to the Sundown SAM-500D. The power terminals are not an awesome size.

My father bought this for his 2014 expedition. I set it up with his Kenwood head unit, factory sub enclosure, but used a kicker dvc subwoofer. Way better than the stock subwoofer setup! Unfortunately they dont advertise that you can only fit 8 gauge wire at most! He got a 4 gauge wire kit so, I ended up having to locate reducers to use the 4 gauge and step down to the 8 gauge with a solid lug going into the amp. Between 10 and 18 bucks here on Amazon.
