Outstanding stepstool. I was looking for another 3 step and wanted the same quality as yesteryear's steel stepstool. After looking high and low and everywhere in between, I could only find cheap, badly designed models. I don't know why this model didn't appear in searches until late in the game, but I'm so glad to have found it. It has the same basic design as my old one, the same type metal release & locking mechanism, and no flex when I step onto it. This arrived new and in original packaging. It's easy to open and close, sturdy, has metal steps, and is everything I was hoping it would be. It's 16 lbs (6 pounds lighter than my other steel 3-step.) At 5'2", I can touch my 8 foot ceiling when standing on the 3rd step, and I felt secure on the top step.. I don't find this too heavy at all, but I'm used to my old 22 lb model from a different manufacturer. It folds up to a very slim profile. I love this and highly recommend it. ... show more

Sturdy, Safe, and Surprisingly Stylish!

This Rubbermaid 3-Step Folding Ladder has quickly become one of my favorite household tools. It feels incredibly sturdy and well-balanced, even on the top step, and the wide treads give you great confidence while reaching higher shelves or changing lightbulbs. The hand grip at the top is a thoughtful touch — it makes climbing and steadying yourself so much easier. I also love how easily it folds flat and tucks neatly into a closet or behind a door. What's not to like?

I used to sneer at the idea of a step stool. I'm tall and have exceptionally long arms. But, as old age took its toll, I find I now need just a little help getting to ceiling fixtures to change bulbs. My mother's step stool was rickety and hard to unfold. Well, a few things have improved since 1959 and this one is neither of those things. It folds to a flat only 2" deep, 4' high and 2' wide (approximate, I am not repeating measurements). When unfolded (barely a flick of the wrist) it offers 2 rubber coated steps and a top step that is best not used because there's a rail above that top step but it's not high enough for security on that 3rd step. No problem for most people, I never have to use even the second step and it is totally solid and steady. If you need to grab for the top rail, it's ready to hand. You could put tools on the top step. It is not so light you could easily knock it over with no one on it, nor so heavy you have to be a bodybuilder to haul it into position. Wisely, the manufacturer has not provided any wheels. It's not going anywhere unless you pick it up and move it. A linkage goes over center to lock it in the unfolded position, and you have to pull on the right place to get it to fold. That's why I didn't give it a 5 for folding, but in reality that's a good thing -- you don't want something you're standing on to fold unless you really pull on the right part. I was going back and forth about getting either a 2-step or 3-step stool. My townhouse has several recessed lights that I need to reach. At only 5'1", the 3-step was a good choice! Step stool arrived today. The packaging had extra tape but the box itself was secure and no damage. Whew! The step-stool came wrapped so no scuffs/scratches. The step stool is a bit heavier than expected. When I ordered, I didn't read that it's 14 pounds. But 14 pounds isn't too bad considering this step stool is a mix of steel and plastic. It's sturdy on carpet and hardwood. No issues with wobbling. I like that the handle is tall enough to hold while standing at the top. I also like the safety latch to prevent the step stool from closing on itself. This won't be my daily step stool. I've got one of those single step ones for daily tasks. This 3-step is going to be great for getting me high enough to change my lights as well as adjust things in the basement. Label on the top step was easy to peel off as it only had the 4 corners tacked down with that double-sided tacky stuff. There are warning/safety stickers under the bottom step. Great for Vertically Challenged NYC apartments!

I finally got to try this out in person! I ordered it for my daughter's NYC apartment - she's in a tiny pre-war apartment in Harlem and the kitchen cabinets go up to the ceiling for lack of any other storage space. When she moved in - her roommates were getting by with a 2-step step stool that was inadequate. My daughter, being shorter than her roomies, needed a better option. This is compact - easily folds and unfolds (which is constantly the case in this kitchen) and takes up little room when folded. It's very sturdy and sound. Highly recommend. I researched this for days so you don't have to....this is the step stool you're looking for. I tried it out myself when I visited her in NYC this past week. I used several times a day. I don't know how her roommates got by without it. ... show more

great ladder/step stool for someone petite like me!

I'm like 5'1-1/2" and needed a step stool for my closet, to be able to reach what I store on the top shelves LOL. I have a regular ladder but it's too wide for my needs, I wanted something more narrow. This is perfect for me. It's a little heavier than I thought it would be but it's super easy to open/close and is very sturdy. I bought the Amazon warehouse/like new version mainly because it was at least $20 cheaper and it being used didn't bother me as long as it still worked. I was delighted to find that even though the box looked like it had been tossed over 3 bridges, the ladder itself was still in its protective plastic and in perfect brand new condition and I could not be more happy. I plan on keeping this in my closet and because it's not too tall, it stores in there very easily and is pretty flat when folded. Very happy :) ... show more
