Description
The Rubbermaid Commercial BRUTE Rollout Trash/Recycling Can with Hinged Lid is the industry leader in waste and material handling applications. These seamless rectangular bins are constructed of durable polyethylene with a hinged lid, integrated handle, and inset wheels. Heavy-duty polyethylene weighs less than aluminum or steel and resists cracking. The hinged lid open fully and locks against the trash/recycling bins. A molded-in axle retainer adds strength while inset wheels make the bin maneuverable and help prevent damage to walls and doorways. A molded-in catch bar makes the trash/recycle bins compatible with automated and semi-automated lift systems for curbside garbage and recycling collection. This trash/recycle bin contains an ultraviolet (UV) stabilizer to help prevent fading and discoloring.

I bought 2 of these. They are not as big as the typical trash pickup ones but at 50 gal they are good for putting around the yard by the patio to catch paper and plastic cookout wrappings and debris. I also keep one by the chicken coop for a convenient place to trash the feed bags, grass cuttings, etc. At this size they don't need emptying often and I keep 55 gal bags in them with those elastic bag holders to keep them clean inside. When needed, I bring the bag up to the larger pickup barrels and put a new bag in. The 40 gal size is easier to manage for all of us as we get older. Like other Rubbermaid products they are sturdy, and durable, and are not appealing out wildlife. I bought the blue ones because they are so much cheaper and I don't care about the color since they are stationary. Great to have the wheels in case they did get too heavy to move just the bag.

Works for taking the garbage to the curve. Easy to pull or push. Seems to be made well. Easy enough to spray down. One thing I do wish it had was a latch for the lid to stay down when there’s garbage in the can. The critters can easily get into it. Very large so I can fit a lot of bags for garbage pickup days.

The trashcan is very sturdy, BUT... it is extremely top heavy. You cannot roll it without it tipping over! Not happy with the WHEEL DESIGN at all. The wheels need to be wider and larger, so it has more stability. Otherwise, I loved the trashcan. The trashcan itself, without rolling is a great trashcan, if you have a way to tie it to a pole & leave it. I hope they will get this issue resolved, because I would like to have a sturdy trashcan that you can actually roll without it tipping over. My husband refused to use it and we are back to using our old trashcan again.

Ordered this to replace an older trashcan that was falling apart. I believe this will work with the trash trucks that have the mechanical pick up tools although our trash service does not use this type (guys manually dump the trashcans) and I got the 50-gal size because of this. The 50-gal size won't get too heavy when filled w/kitchen trash. You could easily get 3, maybe 4 of the "standard" 13-gallon kitchen trash bags in this which should cover the needs of most households (assuming at least weekly pickups). The plastic seems very durable and impact resistant and also it is just the right thickness. Some of the large commercial grade trashcans have such thick plastic construction that the thing weighs a lot even completely empty. Most townships restrict the weight (I've heard 50lbs is the limit but 100% sure) so you don't want the trashcan itself to make up a large portion of that weight. Obviously this isn't a concern if you have the mechanical lifter to empty the trashcans...in which case I'd recommend the next size up in the Rubbermaid Commercial Brute lineup just because you can. I also like the large wheels on the trashcan. They make pulling it up over the curb very easy and although I don't have much grass to travel over, the wheels don't sink and manage the "off-roading" fine. The wheels are also quiet! Our old trashcan had cheap plastic wheels that were loud, slide easily even on the sidewalk, and weren't durable. This is the 21st century...if an ipad can facetime someone across the nation, a trashcan should have quiet wheels! Very pleased thus far. Oh, and the lid is hinged so it stays with the trashcan. This hinge point always seems to be the weakest link w/trashcans but I'm happy to report that this one seems unusually well attached. It also stays shut = not affected by wind or small animals (not bear-proof though haha). I’ll update this if the lid snaps off or if a bear attacks it.
