Reviews said the lid was very hard to remove. Found that if you align the lid tab with the handles, push in on the can handle while lifting the lid it comes up fairly easily.

I fully expected the lid would be made of the same kind of awesome plastic that was used to make the BRUTE trash can. But no. It is inferior material and in my opinion should not be called a "Brute lid" but rather "a lid that fits onto the Brute," because it is not a Brute-like lid. Even the color is different. And with the money spent for both the Brute trashcan plus the lid I expected a nice VACUUM seal, not this namby-pamby one. For a good quality material that matches thge actual Brute trashcan AND a good vacuum seal I would have been willing to pay double for the lid. As it is, this was my only choice and I might have been just as happy not to have purchased the lid at all (though I will keep it). Update: I have found a use for the lid after all, although it seals well (almost too well) on either side where the handle is to open or unseal the lid. That can be REALLY hard to get off. The second time I went to open it I could not get it off, but after 4-5 tries I thought to use the bucket opener I have for my 5-gal food buckets (which are sealed using a heavy mallet). The bucket opener worked GREAT. (Only problem regarding sealing is that so much of the circumference is loose enough to allow little weevils and such to crawl in.) But I found a good use for it, at least for now: putting sealed packages that are unopened in it. ... show more
