    • Defective Unit, Poor Support, and an Absurd Replacement Process

The media could not be loaded. I originally bought a 10,000 BTU Rovsun window AC unit (essentially the same model I’m reviewing here), and it has been running for a year without much issue—if anything, the initial pairing with the app was the hardest part. At some point, the “Smarthome” app changed to “Smarthome - Smartlife,” which had nothing to do with Rovsun. Since my living room has been unbearably hot this year, I decided to purchase another unit. The shipping cost was the same as before, but the price of the unit had gone up. When it arrived, the packaging seemed fine, aside from a small dent on the back. I installed it, but within a day or two I noticed an obnoxious whirring sound—only when the unit was in Cool mode. My older Rovsun AC does not make this sound. It didn’t matter if the fan speed was High, Medium, Low, or Auto—the whirring persisted. Switch it to any other mode, and the noise was gone. Thinking I might have installed it incorrectly, I double-checked everything. No, the installation was fine. The unit itself was defective. I contacted Rovsun support, and this is where the real frustration began. After a few back-and-forth emails, they told me they would send a replacement unit—but only if I cut the power cord on my brand-new AC and sent them a picture as proof. This is apparently their idea of customer service. After that, communication slowed to a crawl, with replies only coming very early in the morning (which leads me to believe their support is based overseas). Returning the unit isn’t much better—Amazon’s policy means I’d lose about $30 in return shipping. I also contacted the seller through Amazon’s support page, but their system doesn’t allow sending normal video formats like .mp4. I even broke apart the video link so they could see the issue, but they still made things unnecessarily difficult. This entire process has been exhausting. A defective product is bad enough, but a replacement process that forces you to destroy your brand-new purchase before receiving help is absolutely unacceptable. I’ll update this review if anything changes, but at this point, I’m seriously considering cutting the cord just to be done with this headache. Right now, my advice is simple: don’t buy this AC unless you’re ready to gamble with poor quality control, tedious customer service, and ridiculous return/replacement demands. Edit - the unit was received, bumped from 1 star to 4, the new unit works as suggested. There are no whirring noises, I did have to cut the cord in the old unit though, but no extra returns, no real hassle. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. The item arrived OK, but suddenly after a month it started to make a loud noise. I contacted the third party about this issue, and after several emails, I have to involve Amazon in this dispute. The only way the third party wanted me to get a refund was if I destroyed the item, which I refused because this can be donated. Amazon went above and beyond the third party and refunded me for the item. ... show more
