  • Pure, beautiful bass sound
Size: RS77LD (45-105)
Twelve years ago I bought an Epiphone Goth Bass on a whim just because they reduced the price where I couldn't pass it up and it was so cool looking with that black matt finish and Thunder Bird body. I had no idea what it would sound like until I got it home and I plugged it into my amp. I was impressed that it had a nice tone but I probably wouldn't play it at a gig simply because I felt gigging with the sound I was getting just wasn't going to cut it. However I just replaced the original strings Rotosound RS77LD Monel flat wound strings. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The bass sounded great with these strings. Smooth, clear sound that was sounding great on stage and the sound was much brighter than I was expecting while maintaing a nice solid bottom. I highly recommend these strings especially if you are looking for the clarity you would want from round wound strings while still maintaining that smooth, warm, solid bottom you get from round wound strings. I now have a second bass to gig with. My Rickenbacher fitted with Rotosound RS66LF strings for that distinct round wound super clear growl sound and my Epiphone for the smooth flat wound srtings. I have the best of both worlds. ... show more

  • Not my favorite
Size: RS77LD (45-105)
I have used the Monel flats in a 90 for decades. I had a bass with a slight backbow that I figured this heavier set could pull out. It definitely did, but wow... these feel like the same tension as the Jameson labellas. How do you guys play these without hurting your wrists and fingers after a while? Plus, you better hope you have a good truss rod that responds well. The tone is fine. Not as good as labellas, but perfectly fine. ... show more

  • ROTOs are my go to
Size: RS77LD (45-105)
Stainless steel timbre core, with nice wrap. Taxed my truss rod, but tweaked it back into shape.

  • Decent, inexpensive flats
Size: RS77LD (45-105)
These are decent strings, but the E and A strings are very bright for flats. The D and G are inconsistently lifeless sounding. The set is also extremely high tension. I probably won't purchase these again.

  • Excellent strings!
Size: RS77LD (45-105)
These strings are fantastic! I dont play a lot of bass solos so I dont need bright strings . these strings are smooth as silk.

Love flats. So much easier on the fingers and I love the tone
