  • Still The Best IMO
I have used these strings many times over the years and they never disappoint me. I have these on a Sire P7 five string (P/J active bass) now, also had them on my MIA Fender P for a while (I sold that bass), and a couple other Precision-style basses. If you’re looking for that classic “old school” sound for your Precision-style bass, these give you THE sound you’re probably looking for. They have a piano-like high end with a very meaty low end, not thumpy and dead like some other flats (GHS in particular). Personally I feel like these have a lot of depth and a very unique tonal quality that I don’t hear in others, for me it’s the sound I have in my head when I think “classic P-bass”. These will bark pretty well when you dig in and get used to them. Virtually zero finger noise, and very easy to play. I’m not a fan of flats on a jazz bass, but these I think would be really decent if you like that sound. The downside, as with all flats (unless you’re getting some of the low-tension ones offered out there) is..the tension. You’ll likely need a new setup, at the very least the neck relief, if you’re coming off round wounds with the same gauge. Also, they do require more effort to play and they are stiff for your plucking hand. For me these are 5-star strings and always have been. If you want the benefits of flats, but want something with a very unique, layered sound, these might just be for you. I’m personally glad to be playing them and would highly recommend them. ... show more

  • Quality strings
They are quality strings with good tone. I gave them only 3 stars because the low 2 strings don't have enough tension, especially the low B string. That's unfortunately an issue with all flatwound 5 string sets. The B string NEEDS to be at least 145, even with the monel steel having more tension than nickel core flats. I actually bought a set of the Rotosound, Steve Harris set to use the E(110) and A(95) strings for it. I do prefer a bit stiffer of strings on the low end. This is, though, the best flatwound 5 string set that I've found. ... show more

  • Whether you play rock funk jazz blues metal whatever you should give these strings a go.
Who knew that metal madman Steve Harris of Iron Maiden has played Rotosound flatwound strings since, like, forever? That was a recent trivial fact I learned from Mfgr website and one of my deciding factors in spending $10 extra to replace the stock D'addario roundwounds on my 5-string with these "77s". I couldn't be happier. I have in the past 30 years played a lot of different styles of music but mostly using an electric bass with roundwound strings. I have a rather aggressive dynamic fingerpicking style and these strings feel great on both hands, have less whispery noise when you move across the strings, and sound richer and better (to me) in all clean, distorted, and effected modes. I think these are my new strings, I feel invigorated after playing on them, can't put my axe down, gonna try them on 2 more basses now. Whether you play rock funk jazz blues metal whatever you should give these strings a go. ... show more

  • Great flatwounds
I love the way these sound and play. They are so much easier on your fingers when you move up and down the fret board. And you don’t get the scratchy sound of the round wound either as you move up and down the string. The sound quality is very clear.

  • The best flatwound I have used!
I have 4 basses and 6 guitars all with flatwounds of different brands. These are by far the smoothest and best sounding of any of them. I know everyone has there own preferences but for me it's Rotosound!

  • Great Strings!
I've bought Rotosounds since the 1980s. They're the only strings I've ever really used. I posted a previous rating where I said all the strings weren't in the pack. I was wrong. I need to learn how to count to 5 again. I apologize for the bad rating.

  • Nice sound and feel
I really like the sound I get out of these on my Stingray 5. They aren't as smooth as the LaBella's that I use on my other bass but are definitely brighter with more high end.

  • A friend recommended them. I like them
This was my first use of these strings. A friend recommended them. I like them. Good strings with good feel and good sound. I think for the price point they are of exceptional quality.
