The tie straps are nice and thick, the latch is solid and grips well, and it has a silicone cover on the metal latch to protect your car. These are very high quality compared to several other tie down straps we have for our kayaks. I really like the velcro strap holder. I'd think of these as river rafting straps, but they'd work wherever you might need something bundled (I've seen them used for wrapping a tarp around a deer, or keeping camping gear contained, and more. This particular set had a nice feel to the webbing, and the hardware was covered with a rubberized or maybe silicon protection, presumably to keep from getting scraped on the metal buckle. It has a velcro piece that you can use to keep the strap in containment while it's not in use so you don't get things tangled. ... show more

First of all - I did not get these to go with my kayak - I don't have a kayak. What I do have is an almost constant need to throw stuff up on my roof rack to haul them. I think these are a lot more appropriate for that application as I care about my truck's paint and these have nicely rubberized coverings over the metal cinch pieces. You know what I mean - you're in the parking lot of some big box store and there's a little wind blowing. You want to throw the strap over the top of your car/truck, but when you do, the wind catches the strap and you have to throw it half a dozen times to get the strap to fall on the other side of the car/truck. You can't throw the metal cinch part over your car/truck, because what if you break a window - or scratch your car? So there you are, out in the parking lot - feeling like a moron throwing the strap over and over. By the time you get the straps over, let's just say - you're in a "mood." These straps will save your patience because you CAN throw the heavy end over the car/truck and not have to worry about breaking or scratching something on the other side. Nice! These also have straps that are a convenient 15 feet long, so they can be used front-to-back on your vehicle as well as side-to-side. I bought these to tie my Hobie Outback down to my rooftop rack and have used them on two trips. I was really surprised at the quality of the straps. The rubber cover on the lock is great of course, but the soft, flexible nylon is really different than the standard kind I got from the place I bought the kayak. Very happy with these. ... show more
