I was hesitant to get this mic reading all the reviews, but decided to pull the trigger anyway because this was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I am a full time student using an app (glean) to record my professors lectures in class. Only problem is the professors move around when lecturing to try to continue to hold students attention, at times moving away from my default iPad mic. When I couldn’t see the mic bar picking up sound it got me worried. On playback it was recording audio but increasing the gain like crazy, you can hear a wind sound on the default mic. Come this rode mic. At first I installed the rode apps to try to update the firmware, as mentioned in other reviews, but that didnt work because this mic specifically isnt detected by rode central, see https://rode.com/en-us/software/rode-central#section-compatible-products for compatible devices. Then I read that you just plug in and go, which was VERY weird to me, as im use to swapping mic inputs. Upon recording this mic just works. The recordings it took were very clear and filtered out all the random noise my default mic was picking up. Very easy to use, almost too easy. Great price. Solidly built. The only thing i would want is a case, as when not in use putting it in a small protective case then tossing it in the backpack would be nice. ... show more

This is a great mic for cell phone use. Great sound quality. However I had to purchase usb c to usb c extension because the mic will not plug it with a case on the phone (S23 Ultra). I had to remove the case off the phone yo use the mic.

    • Best option for iPhone, needs foam windscreen
If you need a one-piece USB-C mic that plugs directly into your iPhone, without an adapter cable flopping around, this is probably your best option (with a caveat, see below). I use it to conduct interviews in the field and record press conferences and such, and I'm generally satisfied with the sound quality. It comes with a big furry "dead cat" windscreen for outdoor situations, but it unfortunately doesn't come with a sleeker foam windscreen. I bought one that fits from a company called YOUSHARES, in order to reduce P-pops etc. Note that the sound quality is not quite as good as I got with the old Shure MV88 lightning-connector mic. Shure just finally announced a new MV88 with USB-C (as of Jan. 2026), so I'll be very interested to see how that stacks up. ... show more

    • The mic that captures humming of a hummingbird
I like to observe hummingbirds. I have a good camera that takes awesome photos and videos. I wanted to capture the humming of a hummingbird. My good camera does not have an input for an external mic. So, I started using my phone camera by placing it about 1 foot away from the feeder. I was able to capture some what good sound using the built-in mic. I wanted to get better sound. I asked AI, what is the best way to record the humming of a hummingbird. It recommended a directional mic. I got a directional $39 mic. That mic was not compatible with my phone. I returned that mic. This time I was specific. I asked AI what directional mic is compatible with my make and model phone. It gave me 3 different mics. The first was RØDE VideoMic Me-C+. There was another for $279, a little too expensive just to record a sound for a hobby. I purchased the RØDE VideoMic Me-C+. This mic is awesome and the right price. ... show more

Tried various mics with my IPhone and IPad and either found them lacking or too complicated to use. The Rode mic works great. It’s not exactly “plug-and-play” because for it to be truly useful you need to download the MOTIV app which is from Sure, but it’s free. The MOTIV app is a simple tool that lets you adjust gain, which is crucial if you’re recording anything at a distance, like for instance a musical performance on a stage. The Rode mic works really well for this, as it barely picks up audience noise behind you, like waiters taking orders, beer glasses clinking, or silverware being dropped on plates etc..
