Has worked well! At first there would be very invasive static noise about 15 seconds into any recording, but it was fixed by updating firmware on the device via the official Rode app. Expect to do this update before it starts working properly.

I am so disappointed with this mic! I have used many RODE products in the past without any issues. Here are the issues I am having with this mic: 1. I have to remove my iPhone case to be able to use it, because it doesn’t fit otherwise. 2. Constant crackling/static noises with and without the deadcat (wind guard). 3. I downloaded the RODE app because I saw other reviewers saying you will have to download a software upgrade for this particular mic to get the crackling noises to go away. The app does not recognize this mic whatsoever, so I cannot fix the issue. 4. The instruction manual just says “read and understand the instructions and safety guide completely before using the product,” however there are NO helpful instructions. Did they forget to provide an actual manual? I am so confused. The only other thing in my box was a silica packet and a sticker. They definitely underdelivered with this product. I have other equipment from this brand, and this mic just seems out of character for the brand’s quality. I never leave one star reviews, but I feel like I just paid a lot of money to have the sound quality be worse than my bare iPhone! I hope this helps someone else out there in case they are considering purchasing this product. ... show more

Tried various mics with my IPhone and IPad and either found them lacking or too complicated to use. The Rode mic works great. It’s not exactly “plug-and-play” because for it to be truly useful you need to download the MOTIV app which is from Sure, but it’s free. The MOTIV app is a simple tool that lets you adjust gain, which is crucial if you’re recording anything at a distance, like for instance a musical performance on a stage. The Rode mic works really well for this, as it barely picks up audience noise behind you, like waiters taking orders, beer glasses clinking, or silverware being dropped on plates etc.. I purchased this RODE VideoMic Me-L to use for recording live music performance videos on my iPhone. (The built in mic works fine in most situations, but is very omni-directional and picks up too much ambient/crowd noise.) I used it once on my iPhone 7 to record a live event and it worked/sounded fine. Before the next event I ended up updating the phone's iOS to 15.8.1 and the audio recorded with the video slowly developed a severe crackling/distortion/ring-mod type artifact which became so bad the audio was totally unusable. After doing some research I followed the advice to download the RodeReporter app onto the phone and update the microphone firmware. (2.2.1) I just recorded another live music event yesterday and came back to review the footage, and while the distortion/crackling issue didn't run through the entire recording, it would come and go intermittently every couple of minutes, again making the audio portion of the recordings unusable. I have a support ticket in with RODE and am hoping there is a way to get it to work with my particular phone and iOS as I have now had the mic for over a month and cannot return it for a refund through Amazon. ... show more
