  • Boom Boom Shaka Boom Pole - A 3-Pack Of Sticks
The media could not be loaded. I bought the Micro Boompole Pro to use with my Rode VideoMicro. The Boompole pro is decent and comes in handy during long shoots. Amazon says 3-stars means "it's ok" which is what I rate it. Pros: Light - I can easily hold it one handed and my arms don't get tired when holding it up. The foam pads are adjustable so you can accommodate a variety of arm lengths It is nicely built and packaged Cons: Expensive at $99 for what is essentially three micro-fiber sticks with metal connectors on the ends. Especially considering you have to purchase the audio cable separately and it doesn't come with a carrying case. The threads don't always line up and occasionally cross-thread It is a bit bulky. Toting around the three sticks without a carrying case is annoying. Considering it is built for light microphones, it really should have been made collapsible. The foam pads do not feel rugged, I have a feeling they'll fall apart after a few months of being handled by sweaty hands. They really should be stiffer and perhaps rubberized to avoid absorbing sweat. Only a 1-year warranty. Seriously, the VideoMicro microphone which is more complicated and more likely to break has a two year warranty after registration. A 3-pack of sticks should easily come with a 2 or 3 year warranty. Competitors: For about $20 more you can get a Gitzo - Gitzo is renowned for their products (especially tripods) and don't skimp on quality - Gitzo GB0530 Carbon Fiber 0 Series 6X G-Lock Microphone Boom ... show more

  • Works with VideoMic NTG but be careful
I am trying to develop a run-and-gun kit that I can travel with that my back will not protest to. I wanted a boom for interviews, but I didn't want to take a giant and heavy boom pole - like I did not want a giant and heavy shotgun mic. My solution was the Rode VideoMic NTG and this boom pole. This boom pole is super lightweight and I will not fatigue holding it. It comes with some hard foam spacers that work well for storage. I wish that it came with a lightweight plastic sheath to help provide further protection. I might make one so that I can stuff this in my luggage and not worry about the pole getting damaged. Otherwise it works great. It comes with 6 clips to help control a 3.5mm cable that would go to the mic, but I actually have this set up wirelessly coupling the NTG with a Rode Wireless GO mic. In terms of being able to handle the VideoMic NTG, it does, but I'd recommend being careful with it. At the full length, if I hold it at the very end, it feels like there's a lot of weight on the end of the pole and if I did a rapid movement, it could result in the pole snapping. So I think having some mid-pole support would be necessary if you anticipate needing to move the pole quickly. Otherwise, I can rest the end on my hip, hold with one hand, and work the camera with the other. I wish it were not so expensive, but for what it does, I think it'll be worth it. My back and my arms will certainly appreciate it. ... show more
