The bad: Throws double stops and chords at you in 'learn a song' mode before training you on them Built-in tuner is suspect when compared to an external tuner Oversensitive to intonation, under sensitive to rhythm Requires a lot of use of the xbox controller, so you're frequently switching between guitar and controller Complicated symbology that takes a while to get used to Somewhat limited in very easy beginner songs. Well Worth Learning How To Rock!

I own a lot of guitars that I do not know how to play (that is another story) so I finally found this game on sale during Black Friday and have always wanted to try this to motivate me to play and also finally use some of my many electric guitars sitting around. This game is fun! I had to choose which axe (old school name for a guitar) to use and fortunately I had many choices. Found one that was comfortable and the game helped me tune it and in about 20 minutes I was nailing a simple little chord song! Do not think this is a way to play like a pro in 5 minutes because that is not going to happen, but if you really want to learn to play, this is a fun and pretty in-depth way to do it. You can change your progression if you really want to stay at a certain level till it is ingrained in your muscle memory, which I am doing or move on according to how you do in the tutorial plays. Great graphics and sound as well! Plus, I needed something else to play since Destiny has got so boring. I am at the beginning, but will update as I progress. I paid $29 on sale and I would have bought it at $59 if I knew it was this good and fun. Having fun and learning at the same time!

Although I have only had this for less than a week I can honestly say as a complete novice to playing guitar this has helped me out a lot in a little amount of time. This teaches u so much its worth it price in that alone nevermije the fact that u can rock out to some great songs. Yeah u will spend 2.99 for the songs u really want but it's worth it to learn them. I love how u can adjust the amount of notes u play in each section of the song at your own pace until u get better and can strive to do it 100% I was worried about buying because of so many talking about lag issues and audio problems. There was lag going thru hdmi as the game informs u of within the manual in the case and recommends u to run a optical digital cable from your Xbox to your receiver or in my case 5.1 sound bar system. Did that and it works perfectly. No issues with audio whatsoever. Glad I took the risk as it's paid off and will only pay dividends moving forward as I finally learn how to play guitar. ... show more

Learn your basic chords first!! But overall a great tool.

My husband bought this to learn guitar so these are his thoughts. The game is fun and is a great source to learn your favorite songs but quickly becomes a source of frustration if you don't learn your basic chords first. If you follow the lesson list, Rocksmith jumps in to advanced techniques like slides, tremolo, etc which are confusing at first if you are not familiar with the fret board or chord shapes. The learn a song mode is awesome for playing along progressively and has configurable speeds, riff repeat controls, and practice modes. BUT AGAIN, if you don't know your basic chords, learning these songs and trying to figure out where to have your fingers will prove very difficult as you progress forward through any of the songs. I found that I had to activate the riff repeater and slow the song down to 50-80% before I could land the notes it was asking for. This was because I had not learned my basic chords and didn't know which finger needed to be where. I have stopped playing Rocksmith for a while and switched to some decently priced online lessons, bought a chord book, and also subscribed to some YouTube channels to be able to see how the pros/instructors do it. I am in the middle of practicing chords and chord transitions now and really beginning to understand how to visualize where my fingers need to be in order to make Rocksmith a much more fun learning application. Watching the instructors on youtube and practicing your chords make figuring out this game a much more pleasant experience. It cant be said enough. Learn your BASIC CHORDS before trying this game and it will be much more productive for you. I do recommend this as both a learning tool and something cool to kill some time with your friends as well. Very much worth the $85. ... show more

A great tool for learning guitar!

I’ve had rocksmith for about a month and I have used it every single day. I have tried learning guitar a number of times and I think the limiting factor is if you aren’t going to pay for lessons it’s very hard to motivate yourself because all you can find is poorly written tabs on the internet and everything you play sounds terrible. Rocksmith makes practicing fun and easy which makes you do it more. It certainly isn’t as good as a teacher but you can do it on your schedule and it costs a lot less. By taking out the work of finding tabs online and giving you a band and vocals to make your beginner guitar sound less boring it makes practice engaging in an addictive way. Cons: - There is some delay with the guitar sounds. It can make fast parts hard to play. - you will need to spend some money on DLC to get more interesting/popular songs than the 50 or so it starts with Overall I think it’s a great tool to get someone engaged in practicing regularly ... show more

I wish I had this as a teenager

This game/teaching tool or whatever you want to call it, is awesome! Lessons are created to teach you many different techniques, mini games help you get better at the techniques. The difficulty in the songs is dynamic, if you play good the song gets harder as you go, if you're struggling the song gets easier. There is a good selection of songs to choose from included with initial purchase, and hundreds more available (for a small fee of course) across all genres. This game makes learning the guitar fun, but there are some shortcomings: - Note recognition, sometimes the computer has difficulty recognizing when you play certain notes, mostly the low E string, it can be very frustrating - There are a couple of guitar techniques I feel are left out of the lessons, like tips and proper form for playing solos Otherwise, imagine this game as Guitar Hero on steroids, only its a lot more rewarding when you actually play a song because you're actually playing it on a real guitar as the song was written. ... show more

Great for keeping me playing regularly!

I've been playing guitar for a long time. Off and on for 20+ years. Rocksmith holds my interest and keeps me playing regularly. I've purchased 3-4 copies of the game for new cables and to keep supporting the game. I've had the original RS1 game for the XB360, RS2014 for PC, and now RS2014 Remastered for XB1. There is noticeable audio lag on the consoles, even with analog speakers; however, it is very playable once you get used to it. I find that the PC version is much better in regards to audio lag issues. I play on the PC primarily. The cables work great for the game as well as with amp sim apps on the PC. DLC is plentiful and there is tons of stuff available, maybe even too much. Sometimes I spend more time deciding what to play than actually playing. The guitarcade games are okay, but a bit corny. The lessons are good to get beginners started. The multiplayer mode works well. I play with my son who has been learning guitar for a little while. ... show more

Poor execution. Could have been great.

Great idea, but poor, poor execution. I love the concept, but the execution sucks, nothing really works right. 1. After screwing with this for hours I can't get the volume very loud on either of my active basses (not passive). Nothing works, I can get it barely passable. 2. As everyone knows unless you are willing to invest serious time and buy special cables, etc..., there is lag. Which as a bassist is ultimately self defeating, timing is everything, EVEN if you are playing the wrong notes, play them in time! 3. It just isn't much more than a accuracy counter for songs I know, and anything fast that I don't is too hard to read the system they use to show the notes, while it does show the frets, unlike tab there is no rhythm indicator other than the length of the notes. 4. Overall Rock Band had more of a "game". 5. Weird selection of songs, and possibly the crappiest Green Day song, NOONE wants to learn included. This is sad. ... show more
