Disclaimer: I noticed no sound increase with the stock speakers. But I didn't get this to use with the stock speakers, I am installing rockford fairing and saddlebag speakers with the amp, so I don't really care how it sounds with the stock speakers. Install is pretty straight forward if not a little annoying. There are only 4 bolts holding the stereo in place, but they are positioned directly behind metal supports so it's impossible to get at them directly, at least on my 09 street glide. You have to get a little creative, and the best way to approach will depend on what tools you have. Prepare to spend a decent amount of time and clear the area of small children and anyone offended by profanity before installing. Wiring is 100% plug and play. The features are great. Bluetooth works super well, I saw some reviews saying it's slow to connect but mine takes about the same as my car. Within 20-30 seconds, my music is playing. Definitely not an issue for me. I plan to add Sirius XM, that's a great feature. FM tuner works fine no issues. It comes with easy to use USB and Aux inputs if that's your jam. It looks nice, the screen and buttons are easy to see and use with gloved hands and it maintains all factory handlebar button usability. Overall, if you're looking for increased sound, this will not do it alone. But, if you accept that and pony up the money to add aftermarket speakers and an amplifier, this is well worth the money and will suffice nicely.

OK for most of us with the earlier batwing touring HD bikes . Sooner or later your going to run into the problem of your speakers cutting out or one day you turn on your radio an nothing. You can hear the radio through your headphones n headset. Problem.. There is a chip in there that sooner or later blows.. as for myself I took the radio out and apart and replaced the chip. In which is a pain for those of that have done it. You can send it out to be repaired at a cost. After doing mine and friends a few times . I just got fed up with it. Pulled the trigger on this one. Pros. It pretty much plug n play and you still can keep your handlebars controls. You have the option to customize your controls to your liking. This thing is loud.. stock with no amp if your not running power hungry speakers. It's easy to see in the day or night by a push of a button USB compatibility. Great for charging you phone or whatever USB MP3. Basically a dream come true . On a 32 gig stick recommend you can load hours n hours of your music. No more carrying a load of CDs in your bags n switching them in and out Play music through your phone or other compatibility devices. Many options to choose from in the radio settings. Especially for those who seek that certain sound. Excellent customer service. You have a question call them . They will walk you through the process if you need help. I was using a other company made 400 watt amp and I haven't hooked it up yet. Plan to go with the rockford fosgate one instead and a set of their speakers. Radio is well made and not as heavy as the stock with CB intercom Sirius add ons CONS I really can't find any once your are familiar with the settings everything is a breeze Some claim they miss the automatic volume control. I don't a flick of the thumb n louder or softer it is I don't miss the CB ..you can get a mini one for cheap now days Intercom..was more of a pain with cables getting in the way or plugging n unplugging. Blue tooth or wireless headsets are reasonably priced today and are more comfortable and convenient. In all I am very pleased with this radio it suits and gose beyond my needs . The only regret I have is I should have purchased it sooner. Many lost hours of riding without music because that stock radio chip went . As far as I'm concerned money well spent versus the time and effort of pulling and repairs to the stock unit

I put an aftermarked radio in my 2013 Road Glide a few years ago. I had trouble with the radio turning off when I hit a hard bump and for long rides in the heat. I went on a long trip and just got fed up with the problems from the old stereo. I read a lot of reviews and decided I would try this Rockford Fosgate PMX-HD981. After the fairing was off, it took me 15 minutes to change this radio. I literally unplugged the old unit, took the two side screws out and slid the old unit out. The Rockford Fosgate unit slid right in, bolted in place and plugged the HD plug into the radio. I turned it on to see if it was that easy and it was! After playing with the equalizer, it sounds better that the stock radio or the other aftermarket radio I had before. All of the handlebar controls work. I already had two HogTunes amps installed and they work just as they are supposed to with new radio. Bluetooth works great with my phone. I had taken the cigarette lighter out when I installed the last radio and put a USB in its place. That plugged right in and will charge my phone, play music from a USB drive, my phone or ipod. The radio seems to pick stations up better than the original or the other aftermarket. The radio has a day/night mode on the screen. I can even read the screen in the sunlight with the light background So far I am very happy with the radio. I can hear it at 90 with ear plugs in and don't really pay attention to the radio above 100. I do get some distortion when I play it real loud but I haven't tried to change any equalizer settings to correct it because I would have to take some base out of it to correct it and it sounds really good. The original price on these units kept me from buying one sooner. If I had known then what I know now, I would have never purchased that other aftermarket radio.

This fits plug and play on a 2007 Ultra classic. Installation was ok. There are four bolts to contend with and wiring gets in the way. It's also a tight squeeze to get in there but it does fit. I like the look! It gives the bike a modern touch of class. The controls are easy and the handle bar controls all work. Good stuff. The only issue I currently have is that it does not recognize my Samsung Galaxy 21 on the USB. It charges the phone but does not play music over the USB. It does however play music via Bluetooth and I can live with that. IF after installation you have issues with the clock resetting, you should do a factory reset and the clock should set.

This was truly a plug and play on my 2006' E-Glide Ultra. The CB was easily removed from stock radio and fit right on the top just like the stock radio. Love the adjustments on this radio front/back & L to R. Who needs the rear vol adjustments.

I purchased this radio with the idea of replacing the factory one on my 2008 Ultra Classic. I liked the idea of it being a direct replacement/plug and play unit for the factory installed radio, so after plenty of research, I thought I'd give it a try. It took me a little while to justify spending this much money on a receiver, but I had actually purchased another radio before this one, that claimed to be a true plug and play unit. I quickly realized you still had to splice some of the wires in the 35 pin wire bundle if you were wanting to use your rear speakers.... So when I received this one, I made sure it had the rear connection 23 pin connector, and the second 35 pin connector needed for the ultra classic rear speakers and controls. After receiving and installing this Rockford Fosgate receiver, I can say this is truly a direct replacement / plug and play unit. THANK YOU. 😊 it was an easy install, and everything matched up perfectly. I'm using it in line with an older amp, and it sounds incredible! It has all the newest features, including bluetooth, clock, display dimmer, and everything else you would expect from a Rockford Fosgate unit.... And of course it rocks loud and clear. I hope to enjoy it for may years to come. Sorry the picture isn't the best, but I was in a hurry.

You'd think a company like Rockford Fosgate would care about customers but they dont. Radio was installed 4 months after purchase (shop took a while, busy season) and carries a 2 year warranty- not that that means anything! Date of sale (not install or use) was 4/20/24, so its 6/19/26 (less than 2 months out of sales warranty) and the radio is acting up, bluetooth losing signal and audio sounds tin-y. It was installed less than 2 years ago and I have receipts but they dont care. They know these radios dont last and they have no replaceable parts? So $800 radio (cheaper now actually) is now a paper weight and RF's customer supports response was "it's past the 2 year mark and we have strict warranty policies." I will never buy another fosgate product again and im pissed I bought this radio instead of the Aquatic AV unit. I literally bought this because I wanted a manufacturer that was a trusted known brand that had been around for decades. They dont have the quality I am used to and dont care about customers service, dont waste your money!
