----- June 23rd 2021 Edit ----- They sent me an updated model with instructions that the new model needs to be held vertical for a few seconds and the light flashes before it turns on. The new model does this, and it's reasonably clear when the unit is on and off. This was the main reason for my hatred of the earlier unit. The range of detection is low. It's unable to sense when a silver ring is more than about 4 inches away from the sensor. Also, the detection response has a significant delay. Most metal detectors you can sweep back and forth and see where it is by where it responds. With this one the sweep method is confusing, leading to a general sense that something is around here somewhere. I guess using it underwater to find where to dig for large things just below the sand with will be useful. ----- Original Review ----- I expected a switch or button or something to turn it on. You turn it upside down for a few seconds. Thing is - you can tell if it's on or off. When it detects something it has a light that flashes that is wildly delayed from when it is over something to sense. It is incredibly insensitive. A quarter at 2 inches is about its limit. I returned it because 3rd time I went to mess with it I couldn't get it to turn on. Not being interested in an exercise in frustration at every step of use I sent it back. ... show more

It's no frills but lots of thrills! No knobs to fiddle with it sends a strong shake when it picks up even the slightest metal. Perfect for snorkeling or diving. Or in the sand if that's where your lost your ring. ; )

UPDATE: I informed customer service of the problems I was experiencing and they have been nothing but helpful. Always love to see a company that owns up to it's mistakes and doesn't try to just sweep them (and you) under the rug!! The Good: -The build quality of this pinpointer is exceptional -Easy to use, single button operation -Seems fairly water resistant (good seal on battery compartment -Comes with belt holster so you feel like Indiana Jones whenever you whip it out The Bad: -Very sensitive to the signals put out by my main metal detector. If my main detector is within 5 feet of the pinpointer, the pinpointer will go crazy and register false positives non-stop. It is annoying to have to stop and place my main detector far away from the digging spot or turn it off every time I wish to use the pinpointer. Not sure if this is just something you have to do with all pinpointers no matter what but it's definitely an annoyance with this one. -Wish it were a little more accurate in terms of the actual pinpointing. It definitely picks up the objects well/is sensitive enough for small things, but often times it's hard to tell if the object is below or beside the device. ... show more
