I weighed the net and it's right around 12 ounces which makes it fairly lightweight. It's a good size and shape, but I wish the handle were a few inches longer. As others have mentioned, it only comes with one threaded connection point at each attachment on the basket, so I took some 36-pound-test braided nylon line I used to use for ice fishing and added a second attachment point all the way around. I recommend others do the same and it only took me about 20 minutes. The net came with a scratch, so we'll see how it holds up. As for the material itself, I have no idea what this is made from. Part of me wants to take a hacksaw to it just to see, or perhaps I could sand it down to bare material, but I'll hold off for now. I'm assuming it's not carbon fiber, as knocking it with my knuckles produces a very hollow, low, plastic-like sound, but who knows. Overall, it seems fine for wild and stocked brookies which are mostly what I catch, and it will be fine for smallmouth bass when I fish warm water. The basket itself is nice (especially now that I've reinforced it). Overall, I'd recommend this as a cheaper alternative to a Fishpond net, but if you have money to burn, I'd get the Fishpond. ... show more

Ordered this net with some reservations because I had heard about durability of the Finish and I wasn't sure the net was going to be big enough for the size of fish that I catch consistently. The net was supposed to be delivered on Sunday February 8th and it actually showed up 4 days ahead of schedule which was awesome. So, the shipping was extremely fast. I was able to take it out two days later on the river and caught a 19-in brown and a 17-in cutthroat, both netted and released with no problems and the net functioned perfectly. I already had a magnetic net release from a previous net so was able to use that to connect this net to my backpack. I stuck the longer handle between the backpack straps down the middle of my back and it was comfortable to wear all day long. Looking forward to using this net for a long time. If the rubber bag was small I was going to replace it with a rubber net bag from fish pond but given the hoop size and the depth of the net this should work just fine for the style of fishing that I do. First trip out was a success and it performed perfectly for what I needed. ... show more

Paper thin carbon fiber. Basically an egg shell. Mine has a hole on the handle and I don’t recall ever dropping it. Too expensive for build quality. Buyer beware.

Perfect for my needs. I'm a beginner and get out less than 20 times a year. My original net came in a kit I bought and was small. I primarily fish in New Mexico or Pennsylvania and catching a trout 20"+ isn't abnormal. My old net was small with a short handle and made landing a fish difficult. This is much easier to reach out when landing a fish solo. It's not name brand, but for my level of use, it's perfect. ... show more
