  • Cools our 782 SqFt Apartment Nicely
This is a terrific unit. It looks nice, works as a fan, A/C, or dehumidifier, and isn’t horrifyingly loud. I wouldn’t say it’s quiet but it does not interfere with conversation, movie watching, or sleep. It cools the entire two bedroom apartment (782 SqFt) fairly quickly and maintains a comfortable temperature fairly well. It was super easy to set up and install the window kit. You do need to attach the hose when using it as an A/C and getting that at an angle where it will drain without assistance is a bit of a challenge but worth the bit of effort required. It doesn’t take up too much space, is easy to move about, and since we broke the planet so it’s Africa hot even in Seattle it’s well worth the cost. Amazon’s no interest financing options make the purchase a no brainer. ... show more

  • Hot Garbage, don't waste your money
14000 BTU model, purchased 4 Jun 2023 We'd purchased this unit to supplement our central AC in the furthest room from the blower while my mother in law was staying with us for a few weeks. It seemed to work ok, thought she does prefer it a bit warmer, around 80f, so it didn't run too often. Fast forward a few weeks, she went back to her house, and I though "hey, I should put this in my garage/office." So I moved it to the garage, let it sit for 2 days before trying to get it running in there. The fan blows, the compressor is running, but no cool air. I decided to investigate, I checked the "filters" and they were clear. while I had the filters off, I looked around to see if anything obvious was wrong with it. I noticed that there was an insulative jacket around the compressor housing, which struck me as odd. I touched the compressor housing to see if it was cool-as it should be- and burned my fingers. I removed the jacket and let it cool down a bit, then turned it back on, and let it run for a few minutes, it just got hotter again. I'm no HVAC technician, but know for a fact the compressor housing should be cool to the touch. Here we are not even 3 months later, and when I go to product support it gives the generic dummy troubleshooting, and no option to contact the seller, or manufacturer. Suffice it to say, I'm thoroughly upset by this. I now have a $620 appliance that doesn't work, and no means of getting this issue resolved. Amazon needs to do better in vetting these companies. For the amount of money that this thing cost me, I would expect it to work for more than a couple of weeks (if it even worked at all that is). I cant imagine there's anything I can do at this point except hopefully convince people to not waste their money on this useless product. I wish I had done more research on the brand. As far as I can tell they're a ghost company. Maybe this review will encourage someone to reach out, I doubt it, but it might. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but that's hard when they don't seem to exist. ... show more

  • Blows ICE cold air
I purchase this item to provide auxiliary cooling to my upstairs central AC unit. I have had HVAC guys at the house, they say that my AC up & downstairs are working fine. The Texas heat can't be tamed by inventions of mortals. The best my central AC can do is like 76 on really hot days (100+). I have had several AC guys tell me that's the best I could hope for from standard central air units. I got the idea if I could just supplement the cooling it would work. I installed this unit in the family room upstairs and was pleasantly surprised that it works like I thought it would. I have 2 units a 5 ton for downstairs and 3 ton for upstairs my home is 3980 sqft. On cloudy days, the AC is perfect but on 100+ degree full sun days, it struggles. Not anymore, it's a cool 72 degrees upstairs round the clock. I know my use case might differ from yours, but this unit does exactly what I need it to do on an area much larger than it's spec'ed for. ... show more

  • Efficiency and operating controls
The unit cools well. Although advertised to accommodate the larger area of our living room+, I found it struggling to do so when outside summer temps get into high 90’s and above (extra electric fans or ceiling fan is important). I have 2 other units of different brands purchased from Amazon. Although they operate in somewhat smaller areas, they are more efficient for said areas than this one seems to be (those rooms get really cool). Although I haven’t tried this test, I honestly believe the unit I purchased for the Master Bed (only slightly less square footage than the living room, but living room is configured with a kitchen and there is an open hallway pass-through - all of which add to the demands for this unit) would work just as well in the living room, or almost as well if I switched them around. The living room area the the unit services is roughly 500 sq ft. I purchased the unit solely due the Amazon description, noting that it seemed to be the largest available. It does have a larger refrigerant compressor per amperage draw, which required that I isolate an exclusive electrical breaker in the electric service panel for the unit. Otherwise it tripped the breakers to other circuits. A 15 amp breaker, even when isolated for this unit may not be sufficient enough for repeated compressor cycling. The unit seems to require its own 20 amp breaker (homes and wire gauge vary). I like the cold air exhaust lid that swings up and down. It does act to better distribute the air flow across the room. It is very quiet. I do not like the control feature that limits fan speed to low-speed-only, when the controls are selected for “DRY”. There are no given reasons why the manufacturer chose this feature to lock-out fan speed selection when using DRY selection for dehumidifying. When selecting regular AC and selecting high fan speed the unit does dehumidify (of course), but I was hoping for an increase in cooling efficiency when using the DRY selection. But the low fan speed is too whimpy. Installation was easy of course; similar/identical to others. No batteries supplied with remote. No biggie, but sloppy. Being honest, I’m generally satisfied with the product and happy to have extra cooling this hot summer. NOTE: Using our 3 portable units to enhance interior cooling has saved considerably on electric bill vs using the central AC system alone without the aid of the portables. They’ll pay for themselves this year. That surprised me. The central AC hardly comes on. Last year (hot!) the electric bill was huge. No portables last year. ... show more
