We switched from a 40 gal tank heater to this rinnai and we are so far happy with it. I’m relatively handy and I did the install myself. The connecting and mounting of the heater wasn’t too bad, what took the longest was to re pipe the whole system since water connections were on top and the rinnai requires them on the bottom. It is pretty quiet. Not as quiet as the old one, but definitely very quiet. You can hear it in the video. When the family kicks in it gets slightly louder. We are in 1100 sq ft house and the heater is in the garage the heater shares a wall with the living room and you can barely hear when fully operational. Right the exterior temperature is about 45 degrees, the water is taking 90 seconds to go from cold to about 110 degrees to the shower, which is the furthest fixture in the house. About 25-30 ft of pipe in the crawl space. That’s about half the time the old one use to take. Easy to regulate temperature. Will update the review in a couple of months! ... show more

Hot water forever.

I thought I was going to be disappointed in the size for volume because the website has a configuration model that stated the next size up for my house size. I am not disappointed. The install is pretty easy if you know how to plumb, or have an idea of how you want to plumb this in yourself. It sets at 120 F without needing to make a bunch of adjustments to get it up and running. You could set it up on cinder blocks and hook hoses up to it and have hot water. I have had the washer going and take a shower with the kids flushing the toilet and washing their hands and not lost the hot water with a minimal pressure drop. I did have to place a 2 1/2 gal bucket underneath for the excess that drops out of the bottom, but I only empty that once in the five months I've had it running. This is a whole house unit that operates as intended with no hiccups to speak of. We have had power outages and not had to reset anything. It's just there and we don't have to think about it. I would recommend sending water to it through a filter system regardless of where you live. ... show more

Very noisey and loud!

It takes some plumbing adjustments and re-routs if your are replacing a gas tank water heater, and you have to provide an electric circuit and condensate drain, too. I am surprised at how much noise this water heater makes! When the water is "on", it makes no noise, but when it is "off," there is a fan motor that comes on randomly throughout the day that hums and changes pitch. Maybe it has something to do with the "condensing" feature of this machine, but I really never expected it to be so annoyingly noisey! There is also quite a pressure drop through this machine. My shower no longer sprays like it used to, and the kitchen sink faucet runs pretty slow now too. It's installed, so I guess I'll have to live with it. ... show more

Love this thing

This was an item I handpicked due to size and many hours of research. There are other good products out there that is comparable, but this one is exactly what I was looking for and it's not disappointing. My installers were able to get it mounted in the same spot the previous tankless was in, with little alterations to the existing structure. Quite honestly, if someone was good with plumbing and felt comfortable dealing with Gas lines, this could easily be a DIY install for someone with an advanced skill do-it-yourself skillset. The instructions were very clear, the customer support guy was extremely helpful. He helped me order all of the necessary parts and even pointed me in the direction of where to get them from. The unit has multiple options for venting and intake which is clutch for those who may need to pivot due whatever circumstances. I originally wanted to go Concentric 5in and ended up settling for 2in twin pipe and couldn't be happier. My furthest bathroom is on the opposite side of the house and a floor up, and it took about 30 secs to get the hot water up there. Big improvement from the previous tankless. ... show more

We had it professionally installed, it's been rolling for about 2 weeks. Seems to be working fine. With this unit we were told to make sure our water softener is working good because these units don't like hard water. The guy putting mine in said he's going on his 24th year with his, so hopefully I get those results too! If you have hard water you'll just need to make sure you do the regular flushing/cleaning to keep it running good! On demand is the way to go, you don't have to keep heating up the tank so our gas bills should improve! It does take a few seconds longer to get the hot water flowing but I think it should be a good change! They delivered on time, so no troubles there. Thanks ... show more

Just Say NO!

We purchased this unit expecting great things. First of all, we researched tankless hot water heaters for an entire month before making our purchase. The unit itself was quite expensive compared to a traditional hot water heater, however, we were convinced this would provide endless hot water for our family and we would never have to worry about having gallons of water leaking in the garage. Pros: We have never run out of hot water. Cons: After the initial purchase of the unit from Amazon, we hired a professional plumbing company to install. This took the better part of an afternoon and cost $750 to install. 6 months after instillation the tankless heater was leaking heavily. After calling the plumber, they diagnosed the unit as needing to have the entire heat exchanger replaced. We called Rinnai warranty and made a claim. To their credit they replaced the heat exchanger part at no cost to us. HOWEVER, we had to pay $143 of the $343 in labor costs out of our own pocket as Rinnai only covers $200 max. Fast forward 363 days later ( we have now owned the unit a whopping 18 months), the tankless hot water heater was leaking all over again. We called the plumber and they come and found the heat exchanger failed again. Rinnai once again replaced the PART but this time informed us that any labor reimbursement on repairs expired 1 year from date of purchase! So, we just forked out another $343 in labor costs! Grand total for this piece of junk hot water heater is now at $2484.97. There are just way too many parts in this contraption that could fail. We are finding out the hard way. Also, we do not have hard water (we called the utility company for analysis, and we maintained the unit by flushing it at the recommended times). Save yourself a massive headache and don't buy this water heater which will end up costing as much as a small car. ... show more

if i can install this with common sense anyone can. easy setup, lots of videos online. i tied it into my current pex setup. i can hardly hear it running. the best part, it was sold as dented. do i care one bit about a dent, umm, no. do i care that i bought it for 1/2 price, you betcha. cheers everyone!! ... show more
