  • Ring Contact Sensors Constantly Go Into "Tampered Mode - ISSUE RESOLVED
Style: 6-Pack Contact Sensor
Bought a multi-pack of these contact sensors for our new (to us) house. I used Ring motion sensors on the first floor rooms and these contact sensors on four of the first floor doors. Precisely one contact sensor actually worked. I was swapping out sensors and worked my way through the six-pack. All but one of the sensors went into "Tampered" mode and even with Ring support trying to help me over the phone, we could not get the sensors workings. Have a metal door that you want to monitor? Don't use Ring. Have a door that you need to slam to get the latch to latch? Don't use Ring. I out four brand new sensors on my wooden French doors and all four sensors went to "Tampered" status. I asked Ring support if the Ring central base station has some kind of "memory" for when a location/sensor goes into "Tampered" mode. I never did get an answer. I have a lot of money wrapped up in this system, so I will be installing another motion sensor inside the house to make up for not having sensors on the first floor doors. I wish I had gone with a hardwired ADT system. UPDATE 02/06/2026: Lesson learned. After posting my review here, Ring technical support arranged a telephone support call and we worked through my issues with two contact sensors. Sensor #1 was mounted on a slightly curved moulding, which when I tightened the mounting screws for the sensor bracket caused the bracket to deform. The Tampered switch was not being depressed completely. This was my installation error. Once I mounted the sensor on a flat strip of wood on the hinge side of the door, it reset and works perfectly. Sensor #2 is on a metal garage door and I had glued too thin of a strip of wood to the door. Once I added an additional thickness of wood strip, the metal door no longer impacted the sensor. I remounted the sensor and the Tampered switch reset the sensor. it is working perfectly fine. Lessons learned: Ring contact sensors work best on an absolutely flat mounting surface. Mounting on a metal surface requires a wooden "spacer" to prevent the metal from messing with the sensors signal (I used one-gallon and five-gallon paint stirrer sticks cut to the length of the sensor. Free and easy to work with and already the correct width.) My thanks to Jose at Ring for being patient and working through these issues. ... show more

  • Reliable Door/Window Protection Reliable Door/Window Protection
Style: 2-Pack Contact Sensor
These Ring Alarm Contact Sensors (2nd Gen) in the 2-pack are a must-have add-on for any Ring Alarm system. Super easy to install and provide instant alerts when doors or windows open—perfect for securing entry points. Pros: • Ultra-simple DIY install — Peel-and-stick mounting (or screws if preferred), no tools needed; pairs quickly with the Ring app in minutes. • Slim, discreet design — Much smaller than 1st gen, fits nicely on any frame without looking bulky. • Long battery life — Up to 3 years on included CR2032 batteries; reliable performance with minimal maintenance. • Instant, accurate alerts — Works flawlessly with Ring base station for real-time notifications (subscription required for full features). • Great value — Affordable pack expands coverage easily; high ratings (4.7+ on Amazon from thousands) prove reliability. Cons: • Requires Ring Alarm base station — Not standalone; needs the system to function. • Gap tolerance improved but check alignment — Handles up to ~1 inch separation reliably, but occasional false alarms if not mounted perfectly (rare). • Subscription for advanced features — Basic alerts work, but recording/history needs Ring Protect plan. If you’re building out your Ring Alarm setup for home security, this 2-pack is spot-on—reliable, affordable, and integrates seamlessly. Highly recommended—solid 5 stars! ... show more

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent Upgrade with Extra Tamper Protection!
Style: 2-Pack Contact Sensor
The Ring Alarm Contact Sensor 2‑Pack is a fantastic addition to my home security setup. Installation was quick and easy, and the sensors work flawlessly with my Ring system. What really impressed me with this new version are the battery protectors — they’re an awesome improvement that add an extra layer of tamper protection. It gives me peace of mind knowing that the sensors are not only reliable but also harder to interfere with. The design is sleek, compact, and blends in well with doors and windows. Notifications are instant, and the sensors have been rock‑solid since I installed them. Ring clearly listened to customer feedback and made meaningful upgrades. Highly recommend this 2‑pack for anyone looking to strengthen their home security! ... show more

  • Great for Securing Home.
Style: 1-Pack Contact Sensor
Great device for securing my home. Just wish they were priced better as it’s super expensive to buy one for each window and door where you may have 40+ to secure in your home. I focused on the most important ones. Setup is fairly easy, though the app forces you through many steps that aren’t needed after you’ve setup one or two and know what to do. ... show more

  • Really a 2.1 Gen
Style: 2-Pack Contact Sensor
Worked as expected and easy to add to your Ring alarm system. However they are not 2nd Gen as described. They are really 2.1 Gen as they are a little bit different from the older 2nd Gen. I have the older 2nd Gen sensors and one failed so I ordered these to replace it. My idea was to remove the failed sensor and then slide this one onto the old mount that is glued to the window. The problem is this version does not work with the older mount which means it must be removed from the window then the new one installed. This version has a plastic cover that screws down over the batteries where the older version does not. Plus the slide portion of the sensor is a bit different so the mount between the two are not the same. ... show more

  • Easy to use, rock solid
Style: 2-Pack Contact Sensor
Z-wave is wonderfully reliable, having a base station and an extender ensures that all instances of change are tracked, even if the Wi-Fi goes down, and that the base alarm will activate with or without it. Z-wave is why I go with Ring for my exterior alarming, rather than Wi-Fi. Zigbee would probably work plenty well enough, when I can eventually figure out how to set up an MQTT server to take it offline and self-reliant, but the Ring station is prebuilt and already accomplishes the task out-of-the-box, so yay. Of course, still need Wi-Fi to check the logs, but arming/disarming can be done from the keypad even without Wi-Fi, and if Wi-Fi's online, it can be done from the phone app. Robust and convenient. The developer's mindfulness to allow for backwards-compatibility with prior versions is commendable, too. I like complicated setups, but I like simple setups, too. ... show more
