I recently got this RIFT Chasm spinning reel to upgrade my kid's fishing pole. For the price, it has proven to be a good piece of gear. It has a carbon disc drag system and a 5.2:1 gear ratio, which makes for smooth retrieves. The 7+1 stainless steel ball bearings contribute to its smooth operation. The CNC aluminum spool with a knurled center feels durable. It's an ambidextrous reel that can work well for any beginner or casual fisherman. Given the price, I would never recommend this for game fishing or a professional angler. Pros: - Smooth carbon disc drag system. - Good 5.2:1 gear ratio. - 7+1 stainless steel ball bearings. - Durable CNC aluminum spool. - Ambidextrous design. Cons: - Does not include fishing line and must be fully wound by hand. - Best for beginners and casual use.

For a budget fishing reel, I was highly impress how this thing looked. The little bit of silver really stands out on the black reel. This thing is silky smooth. Casting and reeling should be very smooth. It's very light and super quiet when reeling the line in. I haven't tested it yet, but filling the spool with fishing line was really quiet and ultra smooth. The build quality is okay for a budget reel. There are a couple plastic parts, but the rest of the reel is metal. A couple parts do have a little bit of wobble to them (handle and spindle), but everything else is solid. I threw this on an extendable pole so it should do well for quick trips to the lake. For less than $20, this is not only a can't miss purchase, but it's also an excellent buy. I also love the fact that it's ambidextrous, and converting it from left to right handed is super easy.

This spinning reel has been a fantastic addition to my fishing setup. I loaded it with about 50 yards of line and it's been reeling smoothly ever since. The action feels fluid and reliable, with no hiccups or resistance. It's a well-built reel, made from quality aluminum that feels both lightweight and durable in hand. The drag system is responsive and easy to adjust on the fly. I've used it on a few trips now and have zero complaints. For the price and performance, it really delivers. Perfect rating from me—I’d have no problem recommending it to any fellow angler.

To start, unless mine was a return or something, the packaging for this reel is abysmal. Its just a thin cardboard box with the reel chucked inside without any foam or anything. That being said, mine showed up with the box partially crushed but the reel inside was perfect with no blemishes, bends, etc so that's a testimate to the build quality. As for the functioning of the reel itself, it's pretty impressive and punches above its weight class for a 20 dollar reel. Its reels super smooth, the drag adjustment is nice and clicky, and everything feels decently tight with very little slop. You'd be hard pressed to find a better reel for the money.

This reel feels surprisingly smooth for a reel at this price point. The reel feels smooth both when reeling and when testing the drag. The rotor seems reasonably stiff and does not wobble. The bail arm is also reasonably stiff and free from excess flex I've seen in value priced reels. It has an infinite anti-reverse which is nice as well. The only notable tradeoff I see so far is a bit of extra weight at 8.3 oz for a 2000 size reel. But you would have to step up quite a bit in the big name lines to get a lightweight reel.

I ordered the RIFT Chasm spinning reel to add to my fishing gear that I keep at my mountain cabin. My cabin is only a couple of miles from a lake, and I frequently go fishing using ultra-light fishing gear. I ordered this reel to give a slightly heavier reel that I can use out of my small 12-foot fishing boat where I can use slightly heaver fishing line and have a little heavier gear. The reel is a solid made reel with an aluminum spool and a 7+1 stainless steel ball bearing system. It reels smooth and even makes for great casting and retrieval.
