  • Great small heater, but learn from my mistakes
Style: Water Heater
Great little water heater. I'm using it for a small studio apt. It's powering a shower, bathroom sink, and a kitchen sink. Word of warning: We thought there was a ghost in the wall because it would heat the water perfectly until the shower came on. Then it went to nothing. We did a ton of problem solving on this unit and were about to bust down the wall to make sure the shower was piped properly. Turned out that turning the output valve down to about half fixed all of our problems. You can either use a flow limiter OR just turn the output valve down. Note: the 8w unit is BARELY enough to keep the shower going. It works, but can not heat water for anything else at the same time as the shower. If you can go for the slightly larger unit, I would highly suggest if you're doing much more than just powering a sink. I would have in retrospect, but would have to re-do the electric. ... show more

  • Died after 3 months, Warranty is a joke!
Style: Water Heater
This is our third Rheem small electric water heater. It is for an outdoor shower and a garage sink. The first one BLEW UP just out of warranty! Amazon asked them to replace it for us and they did. The second one lasted 8 years. When it gave up we went to Amazon to replace it and they recommended this newer product. We bought it in Sept. 2023 and it stopped heating in late November 2023. When we finally were directed to the right people on the phone we were sent a15 page PDF and told to troubleshoot it ourselves and if the the Thermistors and Heating Elements were faulty they would send new parts and we would have to install them ourselves. The warranty on the heating element said 5 years but that do-it-yourself is NO Warranty at all! Three months! if they don't have people on the ground to work on them they should be refunded or replaced after such a short amount of time. ... show more

  • Efficient system but the manual needs improvement
Style: Water Heater
I gave only 3 stars because the manufacturer failed to include steps to remove the cover and instructions for wiring the electrical side of things. No photos or even diagrams of wiring instructions. This was poor manual design. We spent considerable down time figuring out where the tiny 2 screws on the bottom were, that allowed access to the inside to connect the wiring. Eventually also found a YouTube video. This product manual needs to be rewritten. Otherwise the system works well. It's very sensitive as it detects hot water use quickly and heats up with reasonable time. We're in Florida and use only one pipe at a time for hot water. No issues so far. One was even connected behind a 10k solar inverter and it functioned well. With a few other things using power at the same time. ... show more

  • Good product for small area.
Style: Water Heater
My husband installed this in his separate garage. Works great for cleaning up tools and hands. So much better than always having cold water in the garage. Easy to install.

  • My RTE 9 has been working for over 6 years but replacement quit on 12-4-2023-3 yrs 5 months 12 days
Style: Water Heater
I got this to replace my RTE 9 that has been working fine for over 6 years since I installed it back on 11-1-2013 when I got rid of my propane tank. So I decided to just have this new water heater on hand whenever the RTE 9 quits working. Well the RTE-9 quit working on 6-16-2020. So it lasted 6 years and 7 months. So, I installed the RTEX-08. I quit working on 12-4-2023. So, it lasted 3 years, 5 months and 12 days. I bought a replacement RTEX-08 and will got it on Wed, 12-6-2023. So I downgraded my rating to 4 stars. I also left a message with tech support. Perhaps some internal part could be replaced, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm not unhappy with performance, just thought it would last longer than 3.5 years. , So I got rid of my propane water heater shown in the first photo. In the second photo the green double breaker in the upper right is a 30 amp 240 volt breaker for the electric dryer plug. I don't have an electric dryer so I removed this breaker and just tied it out of the way. I replaced it with a 240 volt 40 amp breaker in order to run the tankless hot water heater. There was a knockout in the upper right. The water closet is right behind this electric panel. There is only a sheet of drywall behind the electric panel. Only three wires to connect. Two wires to the breaker and a bare copper ground wire to the panel on the right. So the three feet of electric wire already attached to the water heater itself is all that I needed. The third photo shows the RTE 9 connected. I used SharkBite push to connect plumbing connectors. The work with both PEX and copper. I adjust the water temp all the way up in the winter when I'm taking a shower. Otherwise I have the temp dialed back a little. So I only run my hot water faucet almost all of the time without running both hot and cold at the same time. I live in a 14 foot by 52 foot singlewide by myself so this is a whole house water heater for me. I am really pleased. Consumer Reports said that tankless hot water heaters can clog but after more than 6 years I'm pleased with how this tankless water heater is working for me. Once it passed the 6 years mark I decided to just get another one and have it ready to go when the time inevitably comes and the old one quits working. ... show more
