    • Insane Number of Retro Games — Great Concept with a Few Quirks
Even though I had read the description, I was honestly shocked by how many games came loaded onto this device!! When I first turned it on, I couldn’t believe the selection—it seems to include retro games from just about every major gaming system, including a lot of the big names from systems like Nintendo, Sega, Game Boy, and more. The sheer number of options is kind of wild and definitely one of the coolest things about this console. The device itself has a really neat look and feels like a fun little throwback gadget. I also appreciated that it arrived already charged and ready to go right out of the box, which made it easy to start exploring immediately. That said, there are a few quirks. The interface can be a little slow, especially during startup, and it takes a bit of time to boot up. It also wasn’t immediately intuitive how to turn the system off, which felt a little strange. Once I got into the games, the emulation seemed fine overall, though gameplay can feel a little wonky at times. I think part of that is just the nature of trying to play retro console games on a small handheld device with slightly different controls than the originals—not every older game lends itself perfectly to this format. Interestingly, I almost found the novelty of having access to so many retro games more exciting than actually playing them for long periods of time. There’s something really satisfying about scrolling through all of the old favorites and remembering games you forgot even existed. I could especially see a kid who has never played these retro games being blown away by the huge selection. This could also be a nice alternative to more expensive gaming systems for a younger child or a good option if you’re trying to limit screen time a bit compared to an iPad. I could even see this being fun to keep in a waiting room, pediatric office, or doctor’s office as something different for kids to play with. Overall, I think this is a really fun idea with an impressive game library. I removed one star for the somewhat clunky interface and slightly awkward gameplay at times, but I still think it’s a neat little device for retro gaming fans or curious kids. ... show more
