I wasn’t sure about it - the open (or closed) barrel was new to me and I was hesitant. But I decided to give it a shot and I LOVE IT! I have been using it for a week and have received so many compliments on super my silky hair. My hair is gray/white and somewhat corse. I used to have to dry it on a low setting or it got frizzy. Not any more! I have never had a hair dryer make this much difference in styling. It takes less time and my hair looks so much better. If I could give this 10 stars, I would. (I dry the roots with the barrel closed and partially dry the rest, then I open the barrel and slide sections in the opening. I finish it off with a closed barrel dry all over.) ... show more

    • This is totally changing my hair game!!!

I have hair a little passed my shoulders and it's very coarse, thick, wavy and frizzy. I usually don't take the time to blow dry my hair because I never got the hang of drying with a brush and when I just use a regular dryer my hair gets so frizzy and poofy. This dryer changes everything. I first used this to quickly dry my roots with it set as a regular hair dryer then I twisted it for the slotted dryer. At first I was grabbing smaller sections of hair but soon I was grabbing 2-inch sections. The trick I found was to move the dryer slowly down the hair once and then going through it again with an up and down motion to completely dry everything. The dryer gave my hair so much body and the best thing was because the air only blows in a downward direction it straightened my hair while drying so I didn't have to straightened after I blow dried. My hair has never looked this good after me blow drying it myself and it was pretty effortless. So glad I bought this. The only drawbacks are that it is a pretty big dryer and there is no cord storage internally. ... show more

    • First prototype of what will probably be a very successful concept

I have a long layered hair style and despite literal decades of practice, I'm still awful at blowing it all smooth with a round brush. I bought this dryer in the hopes that it would make that task easier, and it does, with some caveats. It's enormously heavy. Painfully heavy. Luckily the overall drying time is cut down significantly because this thing is a beast to hold with one hand for any period of time. It's a depth perception riddle to actually slide your hair into the dryer while looking in the mirror. The dryer is designed to blow your hair in a "downward" direction, so it's important that you keep that in mind when placing the dryer around your hair section. I'm sure this will become much easier with practice, but the first couple of times I've looked like an idiot in the mirror waving this dryer around. It DOES make quick work out of drying individual sections of hair, however, and it DOES successfully smooth my layers all out. It's (predictably) bad at drying the roots when it's in "section" mode, so I just flip my head upside down and dry the roots in "traditional" mode before I start smoothing the length. I feel like this is a winning idea and we're seeing the first experimental prototype-- they're inevitably going to make it lighter and more powerful, no doubt-- but it's still a solid product that I intend to keep using. ... show more

As someone who has to blow dry my hair every time I get out of the shower, I can tell you this is amazing. It does a nice job straightening my hair as well as drying it. It doesn't get it 110% straight, but enough to where it cuts my flat iron time in half. It works best when you section the hair off and do it one section at a time. I like how you can twist it to be a regular dryer as well. My only slight complaint is that it doesn't get super super hot, my old blow dryer got hotter. But it's worth it because of how well it performs on my hair! ... show more

    • Didn't work on my hair.

While the package arrived on time and in good condition (hence the one star), the product does not work for me at all. I have long hair (pony tails, buns etc.) but I find it impossible to physically hold the dryer in a position that actually works. It took 10 times longer than usual to dry my hair and when I was finished, my hair did not look smooth or styled as though my hairdresser had given me a blowout (as advertized). The dryer is heavy and twisting the nozzel into the "normal" blowout position was only slightly faster and definitely not as good as my current dryer. I am returning it for a refund. ... show more

This is such a time saver! I have locs and wash day is a huge chore, but drying them doesn't take all day any longer. I just slip a handful if locs inside the dryer and it's been a huge help.

    • Regular blow dryer with a twisty feature

The idea with this hair dryer is that the hot air output can be twisted to reveal a 'compartment' that a small section of your hair can fit into to help expedite drying. From medium to long hair, this just doesn't seem to be super effective for various reasons. First, the overall weight of the dryer is pretty heavy with the extra features and gets tiresome to hold after twenty or more minutes. Also, the suggested method of using this new feature is to section your hair into small sections, then use the dryer to pass up and down the hair to facilitate initial drying - in an effort to speed things up. I feel this makes the hair frizzy and doesn't work any faster than just using the proper brush to help facilitate drying. The air direction is supposed to change from blowing out like a normal hair dryer to straight down, to help smooth the hair and defrizz things. It just doesn't quite work out that way, especially if you move the dryer up and down the hair. The last thing that I didn't like about the dryer is that there is only one way to have the direction of the exhaust blow, making reaching the back of your hair difficult at times. Overall, this is a nice blow dryer - it heats well, has a high and low setting and three heat levels along with a cool blast button. The extra twist, however, isn't necessary and adds some issues that could be avoided without the extra fluff. ... show more
