Close to being a great handheld if not for some challenges.

This retro handheld game console has a lot that will impress while simultaneously lacking the documentation and support to make it a truly great handheld. Out of the box, the thing that first impressed me was the quality of the build. The weight and feel of the case are pure quality. The d-pad, joysticks, and buttons are all solid and responsive giving good feedback and control. This is also the first handheld I've seen with dual left and right triggers which are positioned in a manner that allows ergonomic access without sacrificing grip. The screen is another great feature. It is big, bright, and has great resolution. The speaker is loud, if not a bit tinny, but does do a sufficient job. Battery life seems on par with other handhelds and changing is easy with the included USB-C cable. Where this handheld starts to faulter is in its documentation and support. The menu UI is straight forward and connecting the unit to wifi is easy enough, but there are is no indication on how or if you can load in your own roms - a fairly standard feature with retro gamers. Instead, you are directed to a mystery server where you can download some popular games "for test purposes only". The unit also has two micro-SD slots for memory expansion, but leaves you stranded with whether or not is it anything more than storage for the server downloads. There also appears to be some local/online multiplayer feature, but there is no explanation of which games are compatible with this feature or how to use it. Perhaps with some tinkering, I'll be able to figure some of these questions out, but it will be through trial and error which is a little frustrating. Out of the box, it feels like you're trapped in a content system that has been prechosen for you. Considering the build quality, I'd still say it is every bit worth the sub-$40 price tag. You will certainly be able to find multiple games to load on to the system. For gamers who are looking for a little more flexibility, however, this system may leave you scratching your head.

Amazing little handheld for retro gaming

This thing is an absolute blast. I grew up playing many of these classic games, so being able to carry such a huge collection around in a handheld device is pretty amazing. I've already spent way more time with it than I expected. The 4-inch IPS display looks fantastic. Colors are bright, the picture is sharp, and the viewing angles are excellent. Older games look surprisingly good on the screen, and the controls feel responsive. Performance has been great across the systems I've tried. It emulates a wide variety of classic consoles smoothly, and having support for so many different emulators means there's no shortage of games to enjoy. The WiFi support is another nice feature. Being able to download additional games and even play online with friends adds a modern touch to what is otherwise a nostalgic gaming experience. Battery life has also been impressive. I've been able to play for several hours before needing to recharge, making it perfect for travel or just relaxing on the couch. The transparent black shell looks really cool and gives it that retro-tech appearance that fits the theme perfectly. It feels comfortable to hold, and the dual analog sticks work well for systems that support them. Pros: excellent IPS display, huge emulator support, smooth performance, WiFi game downloads, online multiplayer, long battery life, comfortable controls, great nostalgic experience, awesome transparent design Cons: you'll probably spend more time playing than you planned because it's incredibly hard to put down Overall: if you enjoy classic video games, this handheld is an easy recommendation. It packs an incredible amount of retro gaming into a compact device, performs well, and has quickly become one of my favorite gadgets.

No functioning SD card

I have another one of these handheld emulators and this one was a bit of a let down as it would not recognize any SD Card I put in it. I tried different formats, capacities and brands and none of them would work. I hesitantly connected to the internet and used their browser to install games and that seemed to work fine, as long as that service is still working. The battery life is decent enough for a few hours, but that really depends on the game you are playing. The buttons are nice and responsive for most games but I did notice lag in some 3d games. The screen is nice and crisp and the speakers are alright… nothing amazing but not horrible. Overall, this thing is decent. Would’ve been a 4star had the SD card been functioning for me to transfer games.

A Fun Little Retro Console for Kids and Nostalgic Adults

This is a fun little retro handheld console that my 13-year-old has been really enjoying. It comes with a small library of games already installed, so he was able to start playing right away. I'm still figuring out the best way to add more games, but what's included has kept him entertained so far. Pulled down ROMs right from the device

If you are not familiar with Amazon Vine, it is basically Amazon trading free* products for honest reviews. I do my best to make my reviews honest, real and value-oriented as if I had paid for each item I receive. * These items are not totally free as Vine members pay income tax on the items they receive. I only mention this because we Viners do have some skin in the game for each item we order. Why I ordered this item: I grew up playing SNES and Genesis and I've been on the lookout for a handheld that can run those emulators decently. I also wanted something I could play against my wife on, since she grew up on the same stuff. Likes: * The screen is really good. I was not expecting that from something at this price. * WiFi download works. I pulled down a handful of ROMs right from the device and they showed up in the library. That's a bonkers feature to have on something this small and this cheap. * The two-player online mode is super fun. My wife and I played a few rounds of a fighting game from different rooms and the connection held up. There was a tiny bit of lag but nothing that ruined it. * The joysticks feel excellent. They're tight and responsive; not mushy like a lot of these cheap handhelds tend to be. No likes: * The speaker is pretty weak. I had it cranked all the way up and it was still hard to hear in a room with any background noise. The headphone jack saves it. * The body feels a little flimsy. The transparent plastic shell looks snazzy but it flexes when you grip it hard. I'm not sure what happens if you drop it. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes; the WiFi download alone justifies it. Final thoughts: It slides into a jacket pocket and I keep forgetting how much is actually packed into it. The screen and the joysticks are the real stars here. If you want something to throw in a bag and play old arcade games on the couch or in a hotel room, this handles that well.

Great little retro handheld once you figure out the downloads

This is a great little handheld game console. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to download games to it, but once I understood the menu, it was actually pretty convenient. The best part is that you can download games directly on the device over Wi-Fi. I thought I might have to connect it to a computer or mess with files first, but the built-in download option makes it much easier once you know where to go. The screen looks good, the controls are usable, and the whole thing is small enough to keep around for quick gaming. It feels like a fun little retro gaming device rather than something overly complicated. I do think the setup could be explained better. It was not impossible, but it was not immediately obvious either. After a few minutes of clicking around, though, I had it figured out and was able to start adding games. Overall, I’m happy with it. The Wi-Fi download feature is what makes it feel better than a basic preloaded handheld, and once it is set up, it is a lot of fun.
