  • Very nice looking pen out of the box!
I just opened the the Amazon package and the cylinder packaging is pretty cool, very outside the box. No pun intended...but it adds to the giftable nature of this pen. The pen sits up right like a sword and gives it a majestic awww lol. And if you are waiting for the big "BUT" i don't have one yet. The pen is beautiful. It has a good medium weight, and i say that because I have copper and brass pens that are much heavier. Then, i have the jotter and the zebra which are much lighter. This one falls in the middle with the weight at the top of the pen where the twist action occurs. I have read and saw negative reviews regarding the enamel and the twist mechanism but I could make an update after a few months. I think it will chip and peel if it goes in my pocket with my other items. will it give it character or make it look like trash? But first impressions are a win and so far the ink and looks have won me over... Price is ok too. It is again mid range in my opinion. I would say buy if you like the look, which was my personal reason to buy but don't if you are looking for a life long writing tool. Based on reviews it is something I am ready to experience happily. Last point, it does work with Parker refills. Sooo technically the Fisher space pen refill could work. Gonna try soon.... ... show more

  • Almost perfect
Just got it. Nice weight. Nice shorter-sized pen for easier pocket storage. Just a couple minor things: The only real problem I have is that the "ice blue" color in the picture is much lighter than the color I received, which is more of a green-blue. The body is laminated, or plastic coated. So on one hand it's warmer to hold than metal, on the other hand if your someone that wants an all-metal feel go for the titanium version. Pens are personal devices, so there's a lot of subjectivity around length, girth, weight, materials, ink flow, etc., but I like this pen overall with just a tiny color whine. I did just order three more within a couple hours of ownership (peacock, silver, and the larger titanium version) so clearly there is some solid lovin' there. ... show more

  • Tried two. Both skips.
Pros: It is incredibly well built. Ink bleeds slightly but dries really fast. Width of the line is very good. It comes in a very nice package. Cons: The ink just keeps skipping. I gave it a try for two weeks because I loved the build so much but it skips so much to the point where I am distracted from working completely. I returned one to replace it just in case it was a manufacturing defect. Second one wrote well until it started to skip again within a few sentences. I changed the paper I was using but it did not help. Perhaps it is because of the way I use my pen. I am an engineer so I write for a while, have to pause and think, and resume. I see a noticeable improvement when I am continuously scribbling away. But whenever I do stop and resume, it goes right back to skipping. 2 stars for the build quality and beautiful design. 2/5 star only because this pen is incredibly frustrating and flat out not usable. ... show more

  • 'been searching for this pen for years
I bought a green retro pen over 25 years ago, (the store in Santa Barbara only had 2 green colors, and I've have been looking for more Retro 51 to give as gifts to my family. I finally found some on Amazon in and bought several in other colors for my children. And I also bought two more for myself - one in my purse, one in the kitchen. the old, old one on my home desk. What more can I say. ... show more

  • My other pen is a fountain pen.
I'll never use a ballpoint pen again. The Retro 1951 Tornado Rollerball Pen is the perfect compliment to a fountain pen. The cartridges deliver ink almost as smoothly. The ice blue color is even better looking IRL than in the images. The pen has a nice heft to it and its small enough to be easily fit in one's pocket. ... show more

  • CRAP CRAP CRAP
If anyone looks at my past reviews I NEVER give bad ones. This thing was awful. I order one pen and a pack of refills. I received the pen and began to use it. It immediately started to disappear and reappear, as if a pen is running out of ink. I requested a refund through Amazon and even kept the refills. I figured it was some kind of fluke that it didn't work. I even ordered it at the same time I was returning the other one. I received the 2nd one and the same thing happened. I returned both the pen and the refills. ... show more

  • LIfe's too short to carry an ugly pen!
I've owned some great writing instruments in the past but tend to lose them. So came across this pen with a top notch recommendation. And it hits the mark. Looks good. Feels good and balanced in the hand. Writes well. Priced so reasonably for a quality writing instrument.

  • A very nice gift. Exceeded expectations!
This is the first "fancy" pen I've ever bought and it made a beautiful gift. I was dubious about how fancy a pen could really be, but it's actually quite impressive. I also worried that this color would detract from the gravity/seriousness of such a nice pen, but I ended up liking the color even more in person than in the picture. It's very sleek and sophisticated - gives it a little bit more uniqueness than just a plain grey without getting too crazy. ... show more
