I have the larger version of this that I purchased for feed - and one for water...but I needed one for grit (and will need one for oyster shell)... In years past, I now know I wasted SO much food as they chickens scratched at the feeder - and rain got into it. But this style of feeder is a game-changer - it prevents nearly any waste at all from the chickens scratching around in it. It also protects it from rain/snow and keeps the contents dry. The plastic is dense and very durable. Kudos to RentACoop for providing such high-quality feeders and waterers...they knew just what we needed!

I love this chicken feeder! It is perfect for multiple chickens as there are four different feeders. I had a problem with my last feeder because my chickens kept getting dirt in the food, this protects the food and keeps it clean and it is also easy for them to get to. I also love that it has the Roosting resistant triangle top so the chickens can’t purge on top of it. It keeps it clean and nice. It is also nice for if you need to go away for a few days because you can fit a lot of food in it. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone with chickens!

Not horrible but not the best. Feed gets stuck in the opening on the bottom and doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to even with the pullets pecking. It takes a lot of effort for them and I’m constantly having to shake and use my finger to get it function properly. The hole needs to be larger on the red cylinder you screw in. Over all it’s sturdy. Hooks easily to wire. But the point is for easy feeding - fill it and move on until it’s empty but I’m constantly having to check on it and use my finger to wiggle more free. We’re still on pullet feed so it might work better with whole grains that aren’t as “powdery/fine”. This set up is temporary but I was hoping to use it in the future for peeps, for the cost it should function better with all types of feed. Going to be frustrating if I have to find something different down the line. This should be a one and done purchase.

This pair of Barred Rock Pullets just came home from the feed store and were eating within moments of being placed in front of the feeder. The directions say to overfill the chick ports to help them learn how to use the feeder. (This only needs to be done once and then they get it.) Other chicks will copy the first as soon as one begins eating. This is SOOOO much easier than wasting half a bag of food that is kicked out of the dish and mingled with the litter! I’m glad I invested in this and I wish I’d had it from the very beginning. It is made of incredibly thick, durable plastic and looks like it will last 30+ years. A must-have for anyone who raises chicks! Update April 2020: I raised 11 chicks to almost 6 weeks old using 3/5 of one 50 lb bag of chick crumbles and used this feeder the whole time. There was almost zero waste and I still have 20 pounds of feed. (This means the 11 chicks were eating right around 5 pounds per week and wasting nearly none of it.) Previously I was going through 8-10 pounds per week using one of the jar-and-plastic-base round chick feeders. Clean up of the feeder with a magic eraser was an absolute breeze. I am so glad I invested in this! Chicks every spring will now be much more effortless! Update July 2020: This feeder is wonderful for reducing brooder messes. I’ve found that buying pelleted pine horse stall bedding from TSC to use as brooder litter keeps the feed ports from becoming clogged. They will kick in a pellet or two but then rake it out of the way and continue eating. Multiple spring hatches enjoyed using this feeder!

I love the versatility of these feeders. You can connect it from the outside or inside of the pen. If on the outside it makes for quick refills even quicker if for example, you’re dealing with a grumpy rooster that you don’t wanna have to fend off while you’re refilling it. I wish there was a way to close it from the outside though there’s just a little black plastic thing that you can slide back-and-forth to let the feed flow for the birds to get or stop it. I wanna be able to close it every night and open it every morning in between refills. I may not be filling the food every day, but I’m still opening and closing different coops which sucks in frigid cold weather without gloves, but you can’t put gloves on with some of the latches and when you’re that cold, even a tiny rooster kicking or pecking, you hurts like hell.
