Totally Impressed With This PC
My stepdad-- who is not at all tech savvy -- needed a basic computer for checking his e-mail. He had been using an old laptop his sister had given him, growing more frustrated with its poor performance and overall lack of versatility, so I suggested he upgrade to something better. He did not need, nor was he interested, in a state of the art, hi-tech computer with all the bells/whistles, so I checked out the refurbished computers here on Amazon. This was my first time ordering a renewed PC and I took a leap of faith-- given my outstanding, years-long experiences buying from Amazon as well as the 90-day $$ back guarantee -- and ordered this HP ProDesk. Took it over to his house yesterday and set it up for him--WAHWAHWEEEWAH, I was blown away by how nice it was, especially for the price. It looked brand new. I had ordered a separate 27" monitor (will review that as well). Unboxing everything and setting it up took probably 15-20 minutes and consisted of mostly plugging in cables and cords. Although I still gave it 5 stars, it wasn't all peachy, however, so please be aware of the following: 1. The power cord is really short-- I think it was 24"? (I wish I had measured it), and we had to move his desk a significant distance to be closer to the wall outlet -- okay, an extension cord would have helped but stepdad just didn't have one on hand. 2. There was no HDMI port to connect the monitor to the computer -- we tried every port on the PC, to no avail. We figured out that the only way to connect monitor to PC was through a VGA cord-- not included with either the monitor or the PC. This necessitated a run to Best Buy where thankfully they had such a cord (you guys are the best!), $14.99 and yes, it worked perfectly. When that monitor screen lit up and displayed the Windows logo we both let out a whoop of joy, that's how good it looked. I went ahead and set up the starting questions for him and we connected the PC with the ethernet cable to his router (or was it the modem? not sure, but it worked) and he was in business. Absolutely fabulous, despite the 2 snafus we encountered with the short power cord and the lack of HDMI port on PC. Totally worth it, and I'm even considering chucking my old PC here at home -- which I purchased new, cost over $1000-- and "upgrading" to a computer exactly like this one. On an amusing side note-- the box that the computer came in is the perfect size for an adult cat to sleep in. As soon as I took the PC out and into the home office, within 5 minutes, Fluffy was in that box sound asleep, on top of the packing materials. Highly recommend this product! Great for Remote Learning; Gaming possible with cloud services, but not really for local processing
My kids are in middle and elementary school doing remote learning. I got two of these refurbished machines to cover them. They worked great. I suggest getting a usb wifi adapter for them since it seems most people will need them to connect to the local wi-fi. They don't have wifi built in. You will also need to buy a usb web-cam if you want to use video chat services for remote learning. I'm very happy with the purchase. They have mechanical drives so the boot up time is a little slow, if you are tech savvy enough you can buy a solid state drive and replace the main hard drive. I had no issue switching to a solid state drive which made the boot up take only a few seconds. These are business style machines so they are able to stream video, run video chats, and perform regular web tasks well. If you aim to do a lot of gaming then this isn't the machine for you. Gaming here will be very limited. However, if you are on a budget and want to run games there are options that will work well on this machine. Google has Stadia which does all the processing on cloud servers and streams them to your device. This process is not very taxing on your local device. I mention this one first because this one I've used and have been extremely impressed. Amazon also has a similar service that is very new; I have not tried yet. It's called Luna. It works the same way in that the game is rendered on a powerful cloud service freeing up your local computer to only have to process the video display and your button presses. HP computers are Excellent
Works Great and great price . It was easy to set up .It's compact so that is good on space .It comes with wired keyboard and mouse which I am not using I prefer not wired and have my own. I have always used HP electronics and think they are the best.

I ordered this item from Amazon reconditioned products because I have bought several of their reconditioned computers both laptop and desktop replacing my Windows 10 equipment that could not be updated to Windows 11 and all have been perfect. The order always arrives on time, packaged very well, and functions perfectly without any problem at all. You only need to configure and personalize the unit to your individual needs. DO NOT BUY RIPOFF WARNING USELESS & MISLEADING YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
I needed a simple computer for my 80+ year old mother to check her email and look on the internet occasionally..That's it. This pc was trash from the start. It was supposed to be a clean wipe and new windows 11 load. This company may have installed windows, but they left a double profile and separate admin account on the machine! When my mother went to turn it off it said, this will disconnect all other users! My mother flipped out thinking someone else was using the PC.. I have since deleted this account, however the PC is barely usable. I knew it wasn't going to set any speed records, but it can't even load a webpage to get out of it's own way!! I have been over there to re-configure it nearly a dozen times because it keeps reverting to what ever settings it had. I have tired to set it to a local account and what ever they did to load windows, it keeps resetting to that old configuration! I bought the extra warranty, but it's clear that after nearly 40 years of building my own machines I know more than they do. Useless and a waste of money. I am going to have to do hwat I should have done the first time is buy her a new laptop and add a screen. When I asked the company about the issues with the accounts on Windows, they were snarly and didn't really want to be bothered. If this wasn't outside the return window I would gladly tell them where they could put it. DON'T EVER BUY REFURB AND DON'T BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE!!!! Finally using it to make this review. Not anyone's fault but mine. This review focuses on the hardware not windows 11 which gets no stars. XP was the best and most useful version ever. But I like the price, value, and size of this computer. Its perfect for my laser business running multiple graphics and office programs and many peripherals like CO2 lasers and CNC routers. An interesting Desktop with unexpected upgrades

I originally just wanted to re-install old HHD's into a Desktop case. My intention was to consolidate all archives into one home network. To set up a closed home network or 'Cloud'. I have several old cable router/modems that probably could be used as a private WiFi. (haven't tested this option, yet wish me luck!) Shipped in original HP packing with shock foam inserts. Case has a slight dent (pictured) but does not affect cover removal nor operation. (It's possible to straighten it but why bother.) I was surprised by the gaming Mouse and lighted keyboard. Too fancy for my use but I'm sure economy minded gamers would be pleased as a starter set. (I don't need it once the 'Cloud' is working. Everything handled remotely by smart phones.) Hard drive bays are all SATA which means all my ATX HHD will have to stay in their own external USB drives. You will need to get your drive mounting hardware and SATA cables (Amazon; SABRENT 3.5 Inch to x2 SSD / 2.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive Mounting Kit [SATA and Power Cables Included] (BK-HDCC) and HDMI data cables for up to two monitors. I'm looking to add another 500GB HHD or possible SSD but I don't need the read/write speed for transferring files from phone to 'Cloud' Prices seem reasonable on Amazon (though check the 1 stars for issues). I'm just awed by my two 42" Smart TV's (LG & Hisense) as monitors. I disconnected the VGA monitor once HDMI cables came. You do need to reset the primary display to the TV. I'm Guessing it will come up on TV if no VGA is detected. I don't like the Win 11 (safe mode) restriction. Didn't have those problems with this Win 10 Pro versions. I can access and download files as needed without the dreaded "not companiable" or worse ;"Pay Me!" Reading Old Apple drives were accomplished with Linux distro Zorin Lite (on my old Levono laptop) though I may switch out the Win 10 Pro if I run into issues, The Win 10 Pro installed has proven flexible. I can see why this is a good system for start ups on a budget. (under 10 employees.) Update Aug 2026; it comes as a surprise that we need to return to BASIC/DOS. Retro is an option on this system besides the usual Linux alternatives. Open expansion slots, 4 RAM slots. Though forget A.I. as this won't upgrade enough. Win 10 (pro?) Still works with minimal bloat interface if any. Good workhorse for practical computing; open office, writing, web researching, archiving retro programing. The best $$$ puter for a Win 7 to Win 10 transition
I have been building/buying computers for forty years, starting with an Altair back in the day. My previous purchase in 2006 was a 64-bit Compaq/HP unit running XP, which I modified to a dual-boot XP/Win 7 machine. Though slow, it worked OK and I didn't give up on it until the BIOS failed recently, and it can't run Win 10. This guy is 4-12 times as fast (see Passmark CPU), with USB 3.0, four 6 GPS SATA ports and, last but not least, a virgin Win 10 (with its COA sticker on the side) which will be needed as Win 7 goes unsupported next year. An encouraging side note: Win 10 backs off a bit from the smartphone-like Win 8 interface -- though that's still lurking when you hit Start -- resembling Win 7 more than Win 8 did. You would pay over half the price of this machine just to purchase Win 10 alone. Mine came with a 500 GB HDD and a SATA DVD reader, which I need to load my legacy software and photo discs. Two of the four RAM slots are stuffed to make 8 GB of memory. I'm not a gamer, but the Intel i5-4590 is quite competent; with more RAM, a video card in an open slot and an SSD in the empty drive bay, it should do fine. A new puter like this would run over twice as much. This one? Hard to tell that it's not new, it's that clean. And quiet. Since it was a business machine, it lacks two small but important touches: a WiFi connection and an XD card reader, which are cheap. I have two USB WiFi dongles already, and what with four USBs on the front (two are USB 3.0) and six on the back, there's plenty of ports. The HDMI outputs use HP's proprietary connector, so you'll need a special cable/adapter if they are used. There is also a VGA video OUT (won't see those much longer), which I use for my display as I'm already using its HDMI IN for DirecTV. (1920x1080 is the highest resolution supported by the integrated Intel graphics.) In short: If you need an inexpensive, powerful and flexible Win 10 desktop to replace your old one, this is it. ... show more
