  • Nicer than anticipated-perfect for a simple internet access computer
Style: 8G/500G HDD
This is an older refurbished model, so of course not as fast as a $2000 new one. I ordered it for basic internet access and to check emails and FB, not gaming, and it's just perfect! It was easy to set up out of the box, just plug everything in, and Windows is already there. 2 things to keep in mind, it does NOT include a wireless network card. You must connect it directly to your router via a network cable. You should buy that when you buy the system, I have lots of cables already, so I had one on hand, but not everyone does. Buy the shortest cable you get that will reach the back of your router, the longer the cable, the slower the network, and the system is not that fast to begin with (but not bad!). I ordered an older VGA monitor for this, the video is also obviously older and not powerful, a cheaper VGA monitor with it will work just great, and they are less expensive as well (you can check my reviews for the one I bought with this system, very inexpensive, it was $80). I also already had external computer speakers, so that was just plug and play. If you do not, you may need something for sound OUTPUT. The included mouse and keyboard are nothing special, but convenient to use, and work just fine. This is a SMALL footprint system, it can easily fit under the monitor, or in my case, set up on the ground on its side. I'm used to large full or mid sized towers, so this was a nice change, it's so simple. A note here... because it's got only 1 fan, it's IMPORTANT to keep the inside of the system clean and dust-free. That is the most frequent computer killer, heat buildup from dust, which acts like a blanket on all your components. Buy a cheap blower, and blow out your system 2x a year and you extend all your computer lives. Just remove the cover, which should be attached with a few screws (haven't tried on this yet), blow it out inside without touching ANYTHING, and put case back on. Done. I realize that because this is refurbished, there may be differences in units ordered, but mine was very clean, and with windows pre-loaded. Would absolutely recommend this for a child or older person who only wants to browse the internet, FB, emails, Youtube. I don't think the built in video is fast enough for complex gaming, but anyone who games would know that already. For the price, I'm VERY happy with the quality and size, and would buy it again. Hope this helps! ... show more

  • Totally Impressed With This PC
Style: 8G/500G HDD
My stepdad-- who is not at all tech savvy -- needed a basic computer for checking his e-mail. He had been using an old laptop his sister had given him, growing more frustrated with its poor performance and overall lack of versatility, so I suggested he upgrade to something better. He did not need, nor was he interested, in a state of the art, hi-tech computer with all the bells/whistles, so I checked out the refurbished computers here on Amazon. This was my first time ordering a renewed PC and I took a leap of faith-- given my outstanding, years-long experiences buying from Amazon as well as the 90-day $$ back guarantee -- and ordered this HP ProDesk. Took it over to his house yesterday and set it up for him--WAHWAHWEEEWAH, I was blown away by how nice it was, especially for the price. It looked brand new. I had ordered a separate 27" monitor (will review that as well). Unboxing everything and setting it up took probably 15-20 minutes and consisted of mostly plugging in cables and cords. Although I still gave it 5 stars, it wasn't all peachy, however, so please be aware of the following: 1. The power cord is really short-- I think it was 24"? (I wish I had measured it), and we had to move his desk a significant distance to be closer to the wall outlet -- okay, an extension cord would have helped but stepdad just didn't have one on hand. 2. There was no HDMI port to connect the monitor to the computer -- we tried every port on the PC, to no avail. We figured out that the only way to connect monitor to PC was through a VGA cord-- not included with either the monitor or the PC. This necessitated a run to Best Buy where thankfully they had such a cord (you guys are the best!), $14.99 and yes, it worked perfectly. When that monitor screen lit up and displayed the Windows logo we both let out a whoop of joy, that's how good it looked. I went ahead and set up the starting questions for him and we connected the PC with the ethernet cable to his router (or was it the modem? not sure, but it worked) and he was in business. Absolutely fabulous, despite the 2 snafus we encountered with the short power cord and the lack of HDMI port on PC. Totally worth it, and I'm even considering chucking my old PC here at home -- which I purchased new, cost over $1000-- and "upgrading" to a computer exactly like this one. On an amusing side note-- the box that the computer came in is the perfect size for an adult cat to sleep in. As soon as I took the PC out and into the home office, within 5 minutes, Fluffy was in that box sound asleep, on top of the packing materials. Highly recommend this product! Even if you don't have a cat! :) ... show more
